Removing the transmission in the 1990 GMC K1500 GMT400 Draining the Transmission oil: • Replacing the transmis... Draining the transfer case: • Replacing the rear tra... Exhaust replacement: • Replacing the exhaust ...
Wow that looks mighty clean underneath that truck. Could use all hand tool to even remove the y-pipe hardware. Let's see you do this same job in the northeast rust belt
I have a 1992 K2500 and while your video is the best on youtube for removing the transfer case and transmission, my truck has a lot of different size fasteners than what you have. I'll put what I remember for what its worth: Starter: 14mm bolts holding it in. 14mm on the main power connector. 8mm on the signal wire. Transmission lines: 13mm U joint bolts: 11mm for the front and rear ubolts; 16mm at the flange where the front drive shaft connects to the transfer case. Cross member: 18mm for the nuts and bolts; 15mm for the transmission mount. Torque converter cover: 15mm; 18mm for the support rods at the top. Torque converter to flex plate: 15mm.
Excellent Video and commentary. I've pulled my engine out a couple of times - and years ago - worked at a transmission shop. Pulling my transmission - this video reminded me of stuff. Thanks again.
I wish this video was up in 2019 when I went to replace the tranny and t case in my gmt 400. I followed Chris fix video on how to do it in a manual mustang. Umm yeah I ran into a lot of challenges and differences that I wasn’t prepared for
When you need a transmission rebuilt is it reccomended to get a new Torque converter as well? I watched a 20 minute YT video on how to drop the driveline for motor swapping my pickup truck. Now I need to do the bottom side work again to pull the trans. I lost 3rd and 4th gear.
@Austin McCollum It’s habit really but honestly it probably doesn’t matter. We ended up rebuilding the trans and replacing the torque converter so it didn’t matter in the end.
The exhaust heat Shields on either side make the 2 lower bolts on each bellhousing side tough to access. I removed the two 7mm screws holding each of them in place and pushed them aside. Took a long time to get those out. All the brackets on the studs are a hassle.
got 93 k1500 and it got 5 neutrals on my way home. Got a good trans for free now i just gotta swap them out. I dont have a lift or a trans jack so this should be funs
Hello do you have any video of how to replace a tailshaft seal from manual transmission Chevy 94 I’ve been looking around any info and I can find anything?
We have an transfer case seal video. Should be similar. Replacing the rear transfer case seal on an 88-98 OBS Chevy 1500 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fAFnlLMTQmU.html
Hi there, I also have a question. I have a Toyotarav4 2003 model transfer case seal is leaking oil I had replaced it but I'm still getting some leaks on the transfer case what u think can be the problem !
Im dealing with the witing harnes the runs from the top of the transmition in the floorboard and the one that runs toward the 4wd chung in the fron thats beside the actuwatior for the 4wd
Hi Team, I bought a 76 Cj7 with 88 GMC jimmy 4.3 engine without transmission. I want to install a 94 Chevy 700r4 transmission with the transfer case. Do I need a module or harness or computer to install that transmission? Thank you,
@@SuburbanRanch okay👍 i think that, but there's no information of that on videos or other videos on youtube. All of them takes tranny of without saying a word a motor support.. Thanks for confirmation 👌🙂
Great video. My torsion bar cross member is in the way. My 92 gmc K2500 is a total nightmare. Bout to throw in the towel. No info on RU-vid for this particular issue.
@@SuburbanRanch thanks for the reply. I hope my torsion bars come out easy. It is a western truck. However two Michigan winters can be hell on parts. Great videos.
@Andy Coslet Pry it out starting at the front. It’s in out front diff video about 3 minutes in. Here’s the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5heaP8rlivU.html
I’ve seen comments before saying the same but this is the cleanest Chevy underbody I’ve ever seen. I bought one brand new in 94 and it wasn’t as clean. What did you do bro scrub it all down?
@R Mmm Thanks! In this video the underbody is how we bought it! Southern truck, we did scrub it down with a wire brush and sand paper then paint it in later videos.
@@SuburbanRanch yeah I’m in the process of doing the same myself. 1988 K1500 I picked up with only 95,000 miles. I’m putting on a cam, intake, headers, spacer, and completely restoring the body. I’m also more then likely doing a 4 disk brake conversion and definitely a custom true dual exhaust. But anyway I’m still in the sanding and prep stage hahaha. Your channel has helped me out a lot.
I wish this video actually showed how to remove the front drives driveshaft. Got all the bolts out but won't budge. Also interesting how you can loosen the flex plate bolts with a hammer. My flex plate just keeps turning each time I hit the wrench with a hammer.
@john joe We showed part of the front driveshaft removal in the front diff video we did. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5heaP8rlivU.html
@@SuburbanRanch oh ok well I was looking at videos specific to the Trans removal and noticed in this video the front shaft was already out. Generally it's common sense removing a driveshaft but turns out my u-joints corroded themselves to the bracket so I had to beat the shit out of it along with a lot of map gas. Got the flexplate bolts out using a prybar and 3/8 ratchet.
Hello, My transmission went out and gear box needs replaced, and am pretty knowledgeable and capable but just dont what to look for when looking to buy a transmission , and gear box. i have a 93 chevy 1500, r700 transmission in there as of now Looks like some pretty knowledgeable people are in the comments so any and all help is appreciated!
As for the brackets I did not undo the throttle body fuel lines. What I am going to do is notch the brackets with a dremel cutting wheel so they can slide into place without pulling them over the studs, for reinstallation.
@SuburbanRanch ohok thanks. Yea I have a 91 chevy k1500 stepside and I know what repair manual you're referring to because I used to have it but lost it so I'll get another one. Thanks
Hello, update, I recently purchase the haynes 88-98 chevy gmc pickup truck repair manual and found the torque specs listed in the translation section. Now in your video showing a new transmission pan filter and gasket you used a reusable rubber gasket and explained that moroso recommended torque it down to 80 inch lbs. I bought I think a acdelco or napa trans pan filter new with the rubber gasket and it doesn't list the in lbs of torque required to tighten so I'm guessing use the same in lbs torque you did for yours
We did the projects in steps. Here’s the video on removing the torsion bars and crossmember. Removing the torsion bar on an 88-98 OBS Chevy 1500 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EIttcUtgGKM.html
This removal process is FAR more difficult when the torsion bars and torsion bar crossmember is in the way. My Torsion bars absolutely will NOT come out.
@@BatGS YES. Serious rust from road deicer such as salt and Mag Chloride. This is not an issue at this point. I gave up long ago on removing the torsion bars and just got help to remove the transfer case with the torsion bar crossmember in place.
1993 gmc k1500 sierra automatic single cab. wont go into reverse anyone have any ideas why. just thought id ask here before i go to a mechanic and promise him my first born and a kidney. lol
Removing and replacing the transfer case isn’t quite as east peasey as the brief sequence would lead one to believe. It,s heavy, awkward and unbalanced.
Unfortunately you're working on a truck that already has the front axle out of it that part's clear the exhaust system was so new the label hadn't even burnt off yet. Now try posting a video have an actual truck with everything on it
