We’re removing the level crossing at Blackburn by lowering the rail line below Blackburn Road by up to 9 metres. To do this, we need to build new foundation walls to support the new rail cutting.
In preparation for this work, we’ve had to remove some trees within a narrow section of land to access the rail line. We try to save every tree possible, but if we don’t remove some, it means we can’t undertake the works to build the new rail line.
On project completion we want to ensure the area is not only safe but vibrant and we'll be replanting 17,000 plants and shrubs and around 230 trees back in the community in areas such as Morton Park and South Parade.
