Removing / upgrading speedo instrument clocks on Range Rover Sport L494 .

Some people with lower spec Range Rover sport L494 models have asked if it is possible to upgrade their speedo instrument cluster from the traditional dial type to the full LCD /TFT screen type ( like we have on our project car ). To test if this is possible i tried to "drowngrade" our speedo cluster but alas the two types are not compatible ! However this video will be useful for people wanting to remove their speedo clock dials.

What’s your thoughts on weather you could retrofit the touch AC/Heater panel from the 2018? Not the touch screen nav as they appear different sizes but the touch AC panel would be cool! Probably have to upgrade a lot of stuff to fibre though!

You can. Buy retrofits from Ali express. Got them on mine, works great

They are all coded to the individual car to prevent clocking. In the event that you need a new instrument cluster it would have to be coded at the factory to your car.

I am not sure if this is true.... i have changed a few parts of the system between carrs with no issue.

@@L663 He’s right, instrument cluster holds the key immobiliser settings hence why you can’t turn the car on. A number of other modules do as well. Used to work for JLR

mine is in miles and a small digtal in km, the USA made one cant be fully changed into KM i wish there is a way to code it

Love your efforts here,so just another thought…..would a digital speedo/info screen from a 2018 up fit ok in a 2014-2017 with all the right inputs on the back as well? I’d love to get the updated screen with bigger digital speed numbers and the great upgrades it would bring!

👌👌👌👍.........Showing a fair bit of enthusiasm there guy's. What about adapting the upper part of the dash so it has two. Yes 2 glove boxes. Why it does not, same as disco 3+4 also vogue . I don't know, do you?

Yes i think it is but i think you need to have a virgin new display and then some coding is needed Not something we have done

US spec L494's are sold with the normal style clocks. So it might be worth looking on Ebay US comparing the clocks.

Why would you replace screen type cluster with old type gauges? And you will loose your nav features in the cluster.

Hi Can you do a video for the ride height sensors on the rear wheels... this is a common fault where the car goes back up when you press it to go down to exit mode... please please please..

@@L663 no not as yet, but when you do the video I will know how to remove it, lol... there's also a brass air valve in the compressor housing in the boot, this is something to do with it... my neighbour works for overfinch, and he's said it was the air valve, I put a new one on but it still goes back up , when told to go down...bit like the Mrs...lol..lol...great videos by the way, watched loads tonight... ps it's me asking about the bumpers you have in stock..

Help! :-) I have a problem with the digital counter in Range Rover Sport 2014 I replaced the central panel and counter The seller assured that it would be possible to display the map and individual settings on this counter in front of the driver. Unfortunately, it is digital, but only retains the mechanical options. Was it an assembly error or did the seller lie?

I suspect you need to change the CCF files in the computer to do this upgrade - this is possible but you will need a tool like the Gap Diagnostics IID tool etc

hi Guys, great video. Just wondering if anyone can help answer the following question. I drive L494 2017 3.0 Diesel (v6), and I was wondering if I'm I can upgrade the speedo instrument cluster to use the version of the L494 2019-2022?? Will all the features work? will I need to get the new unit coded in order for it to work on my car? or will it be a straight swap?? Thanks in advance

The instrument cluster upgrades tend to be tricky - they are coded to the car - i think it is possible with a NEW virgin display.

First thing to do is to link the two optical fibre ends together so the whole car continues to talk. Three ways! 1. Buy diagnostic loop off eBay (expensive), 2. Pull one orange end out and stuff if in the other hole. 3 A Bic biro.

It is possible - this needs some changes to the car CCF files - it is not easy

I would have thought that the proper instrument cluster would be an upgrade, and the cheap and nasty LCD cluster would be the lower grade one, with all its fussy failures, I am really glad I have the real instruments on mine.

Bonus of the LCD is i can change to KPH and the whole display changes to KPH - great for driving in France !

Converting as you drive keeps you mentally alert, I am not sure if you get the camera fines sent over now UK has left, they have only just started sending the fines over, I stick little tabs on the speedo face as a precaution. Take care.
