What's so cool about these is it brings old songs to newer generations of people. How many people will find The Police or Jungle because of Ren? Man, what an artist
So many people get angry when one of their favourite songs gets covered. My opinion is exactly like yours. I mean, the original doesn't disappear when it's covered and if you like it better, just listen to that one. Look what happened with Tracy Chapman and Fast Car. The sales of not only that song, but others went way up. And yes, Ren is amazing.
I love this. He mashed up two popular songs by completely different kinds of artists from eras 40 years apart and then rapped in the middle. It's beautiful and soulful but also fun and chilled. This is where his broad love of all kinds of music really shines.
The two girls are Brighton artists and are great singers in their own right. Scarlett Fae has an Amy Winehouse cover on her YT channel that is amazing. There's apparently no end to the talent in Brighton! Not sure where Kai, the guitarist, is from, but he's dope. Ren said (in his YT chat) that he's not allowed on any other tracks because he outshone everybody!
Yep, only released last summer, but was massive on TikTok, mainly due to the one shot dance video that has accumulated over a billion TikTok views since its release.
He said he's got collabs with Prof, Chris Webby, Ocean Wisdom, Eden Nash, and Chinchilla to come, and in talks with a few others. Plus a Nas retake. So even before we get to the timeless/rock album he has so much else up his sleeve.
@@rexrogers1859 He was chatty in the livestream for this one so if you watch the video with the chat replay on you can see the other artists he mentioned. The Nas retake might be the video that is coming in 2 weeks.
@@12Beastn Yep! Prof talked about sending Ren a track on a livestream and then in the première chat Ren said he just hasn't had time to do anything with it yet but will be. So it's on the cards!
The Guy can sing anything and the fact he's got two gorgeous girls with those silky old style backing vocals.. crazy and then into the rap then message in a bottle along the same flow.. excellent
7:41 "for now that's all, back to 1974" is an interesting take. The 74 in "Back on 74" meant something like 74th street or 74th avenue, or anywhere else you're nostalgic for back in the day. Now it's nostalgia for 1974.
I feel you're spot on at the end man. You just know he's being recognized by his peers and predecessors. You can't hate on Ren. He's Curtis Mayfield to R.A.T.M. , Jeff Buckley to Roni Size .. he's basicly weaving my whole music catalogues together, and I applaud it heartedly 🤟🏻🇳🇱💜

First time ever exposed to Ren.... I like it! A bit jazz, a bit R&B, some funk & soul mixed in, stir it around and add a little rap and a really hot bass and you got this. I am in full agreement with your analysis on the influences from past music & timeless classics. Now I know what all the hype is about. Thank you for bringing this. This was great!
RenMakesMusic is a great name for him as he cannot be defined any particular genre. He seems to be able to do anything whilst simultaneously imparting his own uniqueness into the songs. Folk, reggae, rock, ballads, EDM, rap, old-school hip-hop, etc. I'm so happy that the industrys choke hold, and complete dictatorial power over what people get to listen to has all but vanished. Imagine how many talented people like Ren are out there right now doing their thing. I finally have new music to look forward to again.
Wow did the Jeff Healey reaction bring back memories. Seen him at a locals hidden bar early in his career. Needless to say the bar was lit that night and Mr Healey partied with us after his set. Not to mention your reaction was priceless. Hope you get a chance to watch his version of Angel Eyes, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra also have versions. He also covered George Harrison's While My Guitar Gentle Weeps, but the best cover for this song was by Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, Prince and Dhani Harrison (George's son). you nailed it BP! your face said it all! im kinda curious where this was filmed. the aret on the walls is phenomenal. love the lady sitting on the upside down french champagne glass. the art is masterclass as is Ren. as always a beautiful RENdition. this song would have to be enjoyed vinyl. digital would not be the final feel to this song. you can almost feel the needle set down as the song starts. Ren is magic. super sonic. he instills frequently into his fequencies. invokes replay from retake..... hell, that even made me want some cherry wine... ♥️🎶🙏🎶♥️

Great reaction. The mashup is reminiscent of Ren's time as a street artist singing " I shut the Sheriff" The lovely ladies vocals remind me a lot of the backing vocals on Roots Rock Reggae by Bob Marly. Very smooth. I'd invite you to go and have a listen to Back on 74 by Jungle either live on the Brits Award or the music video which is awesome.

It's like he's using these retakes and mashups as practice for future greatness. I really hope he's well enough this year for an appearance at Glastonbury.
Ren is next level, no doubt. I love that he is somehow able to be absolutely fresh and wonderfully retro at the same time. Just killer. You might want to check out a band called The Main Squeeze, especially their classic rock covers. They do killer live one takes. Also a group called Snarky Puppy, whose musical creativity is off the chain. Also masters of the live one take.
@@mstewart109 Snarky Puppy has done some tracks with vocalists, in particular they did a song called 'Something' (not the Beatles joint) with Lalah Hathaway that's just tremendous.
I sent this to a friend who immediately sent me the original Jungle version of Back on 74 because I didn't know it. This cover is so good. This whole song is such a compliment to the originals.

This was a mashup, Back on 74 was a song by Jungle about 1974, Ren's rap referenced events in '74, and that was the year the Police released Message In a Bottle.
During the first half I'm yelling at my tablet going Motown Motown. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and Motown was everything. Cant even begin to list some of the greats that came out of it. Still pissed at Berry Gordy moving Motown to California. I'm almost 70 and love your channel and want to Thank you for introducing me to Ren. Keep the amazing talent coming!!!!!
