He did win an award for this video...took first place in the International Music Video Awards in January of this year. Ren and Samuel also won for best director of a music video. Well deserved!

Can he run for president? Unfortunately, he's 2 years too young and currently too British. But i agree, he's a real one. Yeah, Ren deserves a Grammy and Sam deserves awards as well. But Ren deserves a Nobel prize for his humanitarian efforts this year alone.

Yes, that's Ren playing piano at the beginning! He also composed the music for piano and strings! He directed the video and produced the music/audio. It was recorded live but it's not quite 1 take. They had to make a single edit, before the water, for obvious reasons. Yet another incredible performance from Ren! An absolute masterpiece! :)

As far as I know it's not Ren who plays the piano. Look in the description where all the musicians are listed. Would have surprised me if he could play piano that good too, besides all the other outstanding talents he has.

There *is* another cut. Unfortunately, once you see it you'll never be able to 'unsee' it... so, I'll put it after the (more) jump, for those that just don't want to know ... Pay attention when he takes off the mask. He deliberately brings it down behind him to fill the entire frame. The cut is here! You'll see his hand go by twice (oops) proving that we've transitioned to the next sequence. But, when you consider that they only had 1 day to film everything _(and only one shot at the rain sequence, because there's no time for the floor to dry)_ ... then it's just remarkable that they managed to pull it all together at all, let alone so damned well. This man is a genius, surrounded by amazing talent.

Great reaction btw! You're one of the few American reactors that didn't believe that 'daddy' was speaking 'facts' and that all the 'greed is good' stuff was absolutely fine... until he started importing drugs at least. I'm glad you completely understood the meaning of this piece! It's restored my faith that not all Americans buy into the bs! :)

Lol, you know the saying, 'Power tends to corrupt: absolute power corrupts absolutely'? I don't think even Ren should be in charge of the whole world. Ren's probably too busy and he's not American, so he's not going to be president, but he's doing incredible things right where he is. I love the challenge he puts to us to live better.

every time i watch this i get more emotional as i keep picking up more and more bits. the video is masterful (sam gets better and better each time!), and Ren... well even on the smallest level to keep someone glued to a song for 9 mins is no easy task, but WOW he achieved it!! just genius work from him, sam, and everyone else on the team that made this happen and brought it all together!

So I've stopped thinking of Ren rapping because the stories are so compelling it's more like spoken word poetry set to music. Except then you add the musicianship, and the vison to create and you get someone who has no genre or label.... he is just Ren.

Im not sure if anyone has spotted Jimmy is short for James. Jimmy's "Father" soeaks to him first at age 5.. James Chapter 5 is called A Warning to Rich Oppressor's about thr misery which will come from wealth and self indulgence... His father also speaks to him at age 13 and 18 = chapter 5:13-18 "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." A reference to the Sick boi theme, sins and opportunity to resolve thise sins. Im bit religious but this understates the IQ and genius of Ren

Of course he's not 'just' a Rapper, (although he has invented a new form of melodic rap). Ren's a: Story-teller, Composer, Bard, Lyricist, Town Crier, and Multi-Genre Hopper. A Narrator, Slam Poet, Singer, Actor, Scriptwriter, Acoustics & Locations Specialist, Director, Multi-Instrumentalist, Social Commentator... { have I forgotten any? Probably } But most likely - he's our 'Canary In the Coal-Mine' : -> singing his head off - as loudly and as urgently as he can. WARNING that the whole human 'race' is running out of breathable air - consuming everything that's meaningful, foundational to life, in a Race toward our very own self-created Exctinction Cliff. And we'll be tipping over that edge if we don't get our sh-t together - pretty damn quick!
