Things you should know: •Ren is ENTIRELY independent (but was signed to Sony as a teenager), however, he got sick and they dropped him. • He’s been in Canada for treatments from Lyme disease that rendered him essentially bedridden from the ages of 19-26; he was misdiagnosed for so long and suffered brain damage, (he is currently 34) •Annnd, he produces all of his own music and beats-plays piano, guitars, and (a shit-ton of other things),…oh, and he beatboxes… • Oh, and he’s an incredible lyricist. • BUT, possibly the most important thing about him is that he is a truly good person. Fck it just jump down the rabbit hole.
lol don’t underestimate REN’s understanding of the topics he makes music around. I assure you he is more knowledgeable than the vast majority of those who watch
The budget was not too big.. about $36k… they are just really good at doing this.. took them 2 days.. this is his biggest budget one he did.. the Trilogy: The Tale of Jenny & Screech was less than $1k in total.. and Money Game 1 was £500 ish… hopefully a warm welcome to the rabbit hole!!!
If you watch theBTS by Wolfe, ( The extended version) Ren and Sam are discussing how much they spent in making this video and Sam ( who effectively organised the logistics) reckoned they’d spent just North of 50k, (excluding post production) shooting this, but if they hadn’t done it the way they had it would have been 150k plus.
Yeah, they'll work it out when they see 1 &2! They also don't realise the LOVE that the Renegades have developed for Ren. Not just like fans, but people of all ages and lifestyles who can barely listen to any other music! He's totally unique.
MONEY GAME 2 is my favorite! And NOT The acoustic version, just the regular lyric music video. It's fire 🔥🔥🔥 It's Business Economics in a Nursery Rhyme. Oh and by the way, just so you know, Ren is the KING of the one take videos! Anybody who knows, knows that to be a fact. Also, Ren said this is the most money he has ever spent on any music video. Sam is his friend and videographer. Welcome to the RENaissance get ready for the rabbit hole. To give you a little bit more context about Ren, first of all his fans are crazy supportive! Like the most loyal you've ever seen. They will jump on you and the comments For Better Or worse! LOL and ren is 34 now but he was misdiagnosed for for most of his twenties. He has Lyme disease and he was put on many medications that that really affected him physically and neurologically plus him not getting the treatment for Lyme disease so keep that in mind as you journey through his music. Most people start with his song called HI REN and go from there.. he does it all, he raps, makes his own beats, sings, plays the guitar (self-taught from RU-vid videos) and piano. He doesn't fit in a box or Ren is his own genre and humble as hell. My personal favorites songs of his are the "Tale of Jenny and Screech" . "Genesis" (rap), "Chalk Outlines" feat chinchilla, "Money Game part 2" , "Power", "Blind-eyed" music video featuring Sam Tompkins
A rapper and videographer? Go down this rabbit hole and you will not be disappointed. Ren DOES NOT MISS. Him and his videographer Sam most of the time, they are going to rule the world.
Ren is an INDEPENDENT ARTIST! He raps, sings, plays multiple instruments all with only his friends backing him up. Hes the king of one takes! His live versions of his songs are fire. His new song Trouble is amazing due to all of the health issues he had where he was trapped in bed for years. Rens fans are very loyal so you will gain a lot by going down the rabbit hole. You'd love Genesis and Power which are older as well. Also his band, The Big Push I Shot The Sheriff Road to Zion and HipHop mash up (Ren in Red Suspenders) is amazing too.
It was not only one shot (with only that one hidden cut you spotted), but it was live. Performed in the moment with the audio from that performance used. That’s why the sound design is so subtle and realistic.
Everything is already setup when he starts except for the part with the strings. This won awards!! REN is amazing. The budget was MUCH less then you think it was. Ren is well educated and knows all about economics, he is speaking about GREED. GREED is destroying the world
Ren and the cinematographer Samuel Perry-Falvey jointly won first prize for this in the European Music Video of the Year, Best Director and Best cinematographer.
Boy, are you guys in for a ride of a lifetime! Before you go any further, you NEED to check out the video that sent Ren viral and introduced him to the world (beyond his loyals for several years) -- "Hi Ren".
I think you'll LOVE Money Game Pt1 crazy video, and Pt2 crazy lyrics Tale of Jenny and Screech, and HI Ren - just him and a guitar and that was also a one-take with only 4 shots done... This dude is something else entirely, so go for it!
Renegades reported for duty. Watch the behind the scenes. They did this in 2 days with a skeleton crew and a lot of donated time and resources. Was the most he ever spent on a video and it shows, but their creativity shines regardless of the budget.
All of this! One take, live, so much. There is a 2 hr behind the scenes on this video and it does not disappoint. The attention to detail and care the entire crew show is inspiring. They even made sure the young actors were comfortable plus much more.
I will echo what everyone else has said but also you said you was a rapper. You wil not BELIEVE how many flows and Cadence Ren can do! He's top tier at every level. And his singing voice and tonality changes and inflections are out of this world not to mention a gazillion instruments he plays and beatbox and covers every genre. There's ENDLESS talent to Ren! If you want to experience a REMARKABLE bard in today's time. I recommend the tales of Jenny and Screech (full) 13 minutes. Enjoy the discovery of the most versatile artist EVER.
This is worth watching if you want to know about how this video was made. It's more DIY than you would think, with a much lower budget than you would guess.
Sam confirmed (excluding post production they spent just North of 50k, ( Sterling or say 75k US) but if it has been done a typical shoot,, it would have been triple that budget.
You have no idea what the world of Ren is!!! He is a generational talent in all that he does. Sings, raps, amazing story teller, lyricist, guitarist, piano, beat boxer, etc..... He is independent so he can do anything he wants a d does. Hus band The Big Push is incredible too. I liken them to the Beatles. They do amazing street busking videos. They are also amazing artists in their own right. His collaborations ate incredible too, especially with Chinchilla, another incredible under rated independent British artist. She has a new song 1:5 is an emotional masterpiece with a powerful voice. She is a badass too. The world of Ren sucks you in.
This video won Best Music Video and Best Director Music Video (for Ren & Samuel Perry-Falvey) in the International Music Video Awards, and Best Music Video 2024 in the European Independent Film Festival. Prior to this video Ren has always stuck to a maximum budget of £1K. This was higher because, not least, they had to pay the classical musicians. But I understand that the piano was loaned by Yamaha, the extras were amateur, the "rain machine" was cobbled together, the barn where it was filmed belonged to someone they knew etc etc. Liked/subscribed/commented. There is a huge Ren rabbit hole waiting for you ... P.S. when you check out Money Game Part 2, make sure you do the lyric video and NOT the live version (the live version does not include the whole song)
Ren spent most of his twenties very sick housebound He was broke financially less than a year before this video He is still in treatment for Lyme disease related illness Ren is ridiculously talented and hard working He also has great compassion for those trapped by systems not helpful to humans He knows what its like
The rain machine was rubber hose with holes in it rigged up by the farmer whose barn this was in Great BTS 2. 30 hrs with everything Included Filmed by an independent yt reactor Ren asked to record it.
Welcome to Ren theater. Ren and his friend / Award Winning Cinematographer - Samuel Perry-Falvey directed this video last year. Can't wait for you to see more Ren videos. Money Game pt 1 and 2 are insane. He has so much good music. You can't go wrong with picking anything. This is just a start into the wonderful world of Ren.
Mom tells you to do something, you do it! 🤛😎👍 Get ready for a journey. Ren is a great thought provoking artist of multiple genres. A majority of his videos are one shot. Live acoustic versions hit even harder than originals. All around amazing artist. Enjoy 🤛👊🏻😎👍 🔥🌳🌬💨
You really need to jump down the Ren rabbit hole. This is but one aspect of what he does. He Raps, he released a number 1 in the UK hip hop album called Sic Boi last summer. He has a band called the Big Push and they do Reggae, Rock, Punk, Pop, etc. Ren plays the Piano, Bass, Guitar, Drums, and Melodica. He sings amazingly. He writes and produces his own music and beats. He beatboxes. As you've seen, he can act. You can't nail him down to any Genre. To get just a taste of his scope and variety, you should listen to Wicked Ways, Humble, Fire, Trouble, and Hi Ren. Hi Ren helped launch his popularity and has over 20 million views. It is actually the video most people start off with. He's fully independent as well and is known for his live one takes. I subbed in the hopes you do go down the Ren path. I honestly believe he's the most important artist to appear on the scene in the last 20 years. Peace.
"Oh I thought he was gonna be Asian" I had to pause from laughing so hard. You earned my sub with this one. I really hope you do "Hi Ren" next because that's the best place to start with Ren and it only gets BETTER from here!
Loved your reaction. It's really worth it to watch the BtS video on this. The video won a few awards this year. Beside all that Ren is really one of the best artist I came across in my 62 years on this planet. Actually I liked that your Mum recommended this! I subscribe, hoping for more Ren reactions. Cheers from Berlin 👍🍀😎
I loved the reaction! It's always so fun when people in the industry watch Ren. They are always impressed with the camera work, the live, and the one-shot. Please also realize that Ren is extremely smart, & well read. He doesn't seem to sing about anything in which he's not knowledgeable. Don't assume or underestimate with him. He likes to say he was born with a dictionary in his head. The only people I've seen not like watching him are the people who either refuse to believe his abilities, or are jealous of them.
To be fair I can understand why some people may not like his music or even can’t stand it as that is purely a matter of taste but no one can deny his talent and gift, whether they like the music or not. I really like most of REN’s music but I can’t abide listening to Genesis simply because the chorus is so irritating it makes me want to punch something.
@@supertuscans9512 I totally get that. I am not always so great with how I say things. I totally respect people having different tastes. But, I agree that there shouldn't be any argument about his talent.
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. He's an utter genius and complete humble guy. Most people start with Hi Ren followed by the trilogy the Tale of Jenny and Screech. Also check out Illest of Our Time and the Hunger. His collabs with Chinchilla are class! Also his busking videos with his band The Big Push are phenomenal. Enjoy the ride!
There is a behind the scenes video of the making of Money Game 3 by Wolf Johnson TheWolfJohnson RU-vid channel and a shorter one on Ren's channel which shows how the camera work was done. They were working on the logistics of the shoot while the space was being rigged and set up for the video. They only had one day to actually shoot the video. All of the furniture was in place and it is the camerawork that keeps the new elements out of the current shot. The extended cut for behind the scenes is a long video but one you might enjoy watching it at some point. Except for the first 40 seconds of the piano playing, all of the music was composed by Ren. I believe it cost around 30,000 pounds or dollars, I am not sure, for this video. A whole lot more than his other videos. There are interviews where he discusses the video and the cost. This video has one several music video awards.
This video has already won multiple video awards. Ren is co-director w/ accomplished videographer/cinematographer Samual Perry-Falvey as his c0-director and videographer. He does a bunch of Ren's videos and they're close friends. They're both the real deal.
Yay! It was so fun to see you guys appreciate this gem. Ren has so many sounds and so many talents and a killer story of overcoming hardship. Enjoy the journey!
Lol😂 When they meet Chinchilla 😂 Fingers & Little Girl Gone 😂 Can't wait to see their reaction 😉And then her latest song 1:5.💕💕💕💕💕 I think that one was her best at Adele level. She will deserves it her time at the top for female artists👏👏
Ren is an independent artist so he has to finance all his videos himself, Sam and Josh are his main videographers and once you get used to seeing Ren's videos you will be able to notice the difference of styles in their production, the whole video is done in collaboration with each other and when Ren does a "One take" the vocals are always 1 take while there maybe cuts in the video its'self, some 1 take videos took over 180 attempts over several days to get the perfect video for release. Rens "normal" budget for video's is around £1000 ($1300) because he is self financing them, the extras that you see in the video's are generally his friends and friends of friends, this particular production was mostly financed by the money made from the release of his "Sick Boi" album which went to #1 in the uk album charts, this video cost Ren about £35,000 ($49,000) it would have cost a lot more as Ren was trying to hire a piano for the shoot but couldn't get one, so Yamaha allowed him to loan one of their $100,000 grand piano's with a tech to keep it tuned for free. The violinist to the left of Ren in the rain scene was the only extra expense on the shoot, as when the water started falling it hit her bow strings, and Ren had to replace them for her. You should definitely react to Money Game 1 and 2, there is a theme that runs through all 3 videos, "the history" "what we made of it" "the individual cost" is how I sum it up.
Money Games 1 & 2 (the lyric video for MG 2! It's more than a lyric video.) Remember, though, you're going backward in terms of age, experience, budget. Don't get me wrong, they are all fabulous, but years apart chronologically, you can clearly see the evolution. I think you need to see The Tales of Jenny & Screech! They had practically no budget, but the way Ren uses everything around him is amazing... The Tales were also done at separate times, years between, but this is a must-see. There are 3 sections, and you will lose impact if you do them separately. Here's a link to the full trilogy, in the correct order. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TYAnqQ--KX0.htmlsi=Ie29V4u7b2YZuOuU All live, all one-take. This is where his "bardcore" shines. Don't ask, you'll see. 😉 Btw, he's from Wales. "Money Game Part 3 won Best Music Video, at the International Music Video Awards in January 2024. Ren and Samuel Perry-Falvey jointly won Best Director of a Music Video, and they both won an Honourable Mention for Best Cinematography." There's a BTS with Wolf Johnson you might find interesting where he's documenting the whole creation of this video.
Welcome to the world of Ren!! He is unlike ANY artist u have seen b4. Loved the stuff u caught. Advice would be to listen/watch more than once AND again once u dig into his catalog to unlock even more meaning to his lyrics.
Ren is Truly a Once in a Multi-Generational Artist on the Level of Shakespeare. He is a Performance Art Master who blends music and character acting from all the styles over the last 500 years and makes it Modern and Relatable to all Generations even if normally you may not be a fan of whatever genre he is currently performing. From Location and Video Directing Worthy of Tarantino or Spielberg, to Lyrics Shakespeare would have been Proud to have Written, To an Emotional Performance on par with Marlon Brando or Morgan Freeman and the Musical Prowess of Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton and the Vocal Chops of Robert Plant or M&M! In Money Game Pt3 when offering His Solution to the Sociatal Issues he is showcasing, Ren stated "Mold will Grow upon the Surface and Consumes til it dies, and Our Fate could be the same without this Story to the Wise" The more I hear from Ren the more I realize his Solution is to be a Teacher Opening the Eyes of Millions with his Art and his Heart! And I think Ren's message is Crystal Clear. Ambition and Passion Without Compassion Will Cause the World To Burn! But Ambition and Passion WITH Compassion Can Save It! His Compassion is Manifestly Obvious and If enough of Us actually LISTEN to his words, then Maybe, Just Maybe the Human Race may Survive!
Welcome to the world of Ren. Renegades and Ren himself adores the feaaction community. He never copyright strikes a reactor. He allows monetization of all his music. "A rising tide lifts all ships". Please experience his: Thank you to 1million subscribers and definition if success video letter. Reacting to that video is your personal choice. Money Game, Money Game 2(lyric video), and this.... Money Game 3 is a completed series of 1 take videos. HI REN is another 9+ minute 1 take song video. The Tales of Jenny and Screech is a set of 3 1-take videos strung together in the order they are meant to be seen in. Yeah yeah yeah 13+ minutes.... do not fear you wont notice the time flying by. Hunger, Illest of Our Time, Humble, Depression, ... the list goes on. When you run out slide over to his videos while a member of 2 different bands. Trick the Fox pre 21 yrs old and The Big Push after getting finally properly diagnoised. Late 20's. Blind eyed with angry car park attendant is one of my personal verzions of that song with Sam Tompkins.
This awesome video just won 3 awards for Ren and his cinematographer Sam, it won Best Music Video, Best Director, and Best Concept. I had the privilege of going to tour the set where it was filmed and see how the process worked and met some of the guys behind the scenes. The wolf Johnson has a channel and he did a BTS of this that I recommend watching to gain some BTS insight. Ren and his whole team are just phenomenal 🙌🏼 you need to keep going and watch everything else now ❤
Ren fan here. Renegades love watching new people react to Ren’s content. He is very eclectic with a wide range. Also very theatrical. You will definitely be impressed if you run down the rabbit hole. He has amazing talent, brilliant songs, crazy videos and an awesome story teller. He shares his life story through his songs but also has fun nostalgic videos with a lot of references. Old soul, bardcore, new flavor, just a lot of everything. Hope you do more reactions. If you do, Rens over a million followers will be here to watch and support. He is all about spreading the love and helping the reaction community.
Watched some of you guys other reactions to other artists. You have no idea what you stepped into with Ren and friends.....Sam, Chinchilla,Samuel, Etc. Subbed now and looking forward to the trip.
Subbed for more Ren... He's a genuine soul in a world of fakes. His story is crazy, and he's an amazing force of strength and hope! He's also the king of one takes! Enjoy your ride!! If you want to know what he's about, his 1 million subscriber speech is the quickest sum up of his goal. His fans (Renegades) are amazing too!
this is going to be a running commentary: But what a video to start your Ren journey with. I am sure someone before me already mentioned that Sam Perry-Falvey is the cinematographer for this video as he is for most Ren videos. This is very polished compared to earlier stuff. You can see the evolution through the years. Oh yeah and the music and his rapping are live. If you want to hear Ren sing... there's so much out there.... The only cut in the whole thing is behind the wheel chair. If you want to find out how they did it, there is a making off out there. Also, so many Easter Eggs in this and it's worth to watch Money Game 1+2 and then watch this one again. And he's doing after dealing with a several year long battle with physical and mental health which are both still effecting him today. Other stuff worth listening to Hi Ren (the tune that got us all hooked), The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version, one where every single word is important and listening closely is required but holy plot twist Batman), his newest one Troubles is a little more "classic" Hip Hop but tells the full story of his struggles with Lyme disease and being misdiagnosed for too many years. If you want to hear him sing... check out his band The Big Push, the song most people is the I Shot The Sherriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop medley.
Welcome to the wonderful world of ren, where you can always expect the unexpected! Its a very fun rabbit hole to fall down! Hope to see you at the bottom! 👋😁💜
You guys have stumbled on a great journey that is going to be a wild ride, so buckle up when you are going down the Ren rabbit hole. Just when you think you have him figured out you will stumble on something totally different that will blow your mind and leave you scratching your head wondering where his talent ends and wanting to discover more. You definitely want to watch Money Game part 1 & 2. Also, since you are a rapper, you might want to watch The Hunger. For the videographer, there are videos on RU-vid of the making of Money Game 3 you might enjoy. Also, you should turn off closed captions when they automatically pop up on his videos. They are not usually very accurate, especially if you watch Hi Ren, which I'm sure you will do. If you want to see the lyrics, my advice is to listen first and then go back for the lyrics. Reading takes you away from his very well done videos since you can't read and watch at the same time. Welcome to the world of Ren!
This is essentially a 3 hour movie in 9 minutes. They had to make one cut behind the wheelchair to move and waterproof the mic. From there they only had one shot with the water as Ren only had one suit and they didn’t have time for it to dry. Notice how the globe stops spinning when he gets the call about his dad and it also stops on South America. I can’t believe this is your introduction to Ren you are about to go on one hell of a journey. As a rapper and videographer you both are really going to appreciate Ren.
Yes, money game 1-2, also the “Tales Trilogy” (Jenny, Screech, Violet), and….well, just all of it! Enjoyed your Hi Ren reaction. You did a great job pointing out the complexity of the videography and his performance.
Ren: the king of one takes. You must deep dive. Tales of Jenny & screech.... must be done as a trilogy in one reaction. Not to be reacted separately. There is a video with all 3 on his channel . Trust me it will be worth it. Money game part 1 offical music video, money game part 2 lyric video are the best to watch. Also Ren's seven sins . He has many more. He has his own genre, Ren's genre. He raps, amazing singing voice, produces, writes his own beats, plays multiple instruments. He is a jack of all trades and master of all. This man is like no other. Once in a lifetime. I subbed hoping for more Ren reactions. Oh and i shall end with one more request " Hi Ren" by Ren is also a master piece. Thank you for a great reaction sending ❤ from 🏴 in u.k .........
You guys were fire 🔥. Ren is one of the most diverse musicians you'll come across. His range and videos are crazy. You can't put him in a box. Enjoy the ride.
Mad talented that he is, Ren often visualizes his videos as he writes or composes. Seeing as it's his own investment, his creativity is required for making compelling videos on a shoestring budget. Cinematically, you'll probably enjoy the first two Money Game (part 1 is a one-shot with live audio; part 2 should be the official lyric video) songs, as well as "Animal Flow." His trilogy, "The Tale of Jenny & Screech," is available with the 3 tales in order and is worth watching in one sitting. It's 3 songs, each a one-shot with live audio. Samuel Perry-Falvey is the videographer he works with most often as they've been good friends a long time. Often one-takes, often one camera, often live audio. Ren really does it all, or I should say has done it all. He usually makes his own beats, but isn't averse to sampling or buying a beat. He just likes to make music. His "retakes" are more-or-less "covers" with new lyrics that he makes for fun and an homage to the original, which are copyrighted. Very wide range of styles.
I can only reiterate that thinking Ren has a ‘misunderstanding of economics’ is the ultimate irony. As an artist Ren probably has the best understanding of economics ever. That being said I really enjoyed the reaction and will sub.
Seeing your own video and song immediately gave me Ren vibes from some of his earlier work, like The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full Version), the Hunger and Illest of Our Time, with the rough, run-down settings serving as a perfect backdrop for each song's theme. Like you, Ren and his cinematographer, Sam Perry-Falvey, do a lot with very little. Money Game 3 is their biggest budget video so far, but sometimes they spent only 100 pounds or so (Hi Ren is a great example of that). In Losing It, done mostly with a fish-eye lens, Ren did most of the filming himself--and all of the film and musical editing. I hope you react to a lot more of his work, probably my favorite artist in the last few decades. Subbed!
As a renegade I must admit ,, Ren will live in your head Rent free. As the rabbit hole Seems to be ending The bottom falls out And you fall deeper. Ren currently Sits at my Top Five Musical artists of my lifetime. And the beautiful thing is It's only the beginning. Not a reflection of history, But of present Interaction. New subscriber here... I would recommend the "hunger," "Humble ", And " illest of our time". His song "Hi - Ren" brought him to viral status.
Budget next to nothing for what you get. Just a genius at work, plenty of behind the scenes footage and well worth a look to answer all your questions.
Awesome reaction! You both play off each other really well. Money Game 1 is a classic. And when you do Money Game 2 remember do the lyric video for the reaction. Money Game 2 is the only time where the lyric video is the fuller experience
You guys need to watch the making of this video... it will blow your mind! They literally had two days in this warehouse! It goes over everything you are talking about, and shows the imagination, determination and raw talent Ren and his crew possess. They're amazing! Also, if you really want to see some of the best camera work, check out Ren's "Losing It". The videography is insane!
Your Ren journey has begun. Enjoy and stand by to be impressed by Ren's artistry again and again. I'm sure it's been said, but you need to restart with "Hi Ren".
There is a behind the scenes film (and an extended cut version) made by The Wolf Johnson, available on his RU-vid channel, that answers a lot of your questions about production. You should definitely go back and watch parts 1 & 2. Also Hi Ren, the Tale of Jenny and Screech (full 13 minute version) and so many others too. Ren is Welsh, though he lived for several years in Brighton on the south coast of England, and is now in Canada having medical treatment. Last year he put out an excellent rap album called Sick Boi. He was previously in a band called the Big Push. His collaborations with Chinchilla and Sam Tompkins are well worth checking out too.
I’m sure you’re going to hear this with every comment, but please, absolutely react to more Ren. His music spans so many genres, and his catalog is massive. His fanbase is huge, we love watching reactions to his work, and supporting channels that react to him. Aside from being an amazing artist, and going through hell with his own health issues, Ren is a genuinely good person, who wants to see everyone succeed (which is why he supports reactors monetizing reactions to his work, appreciating that the reaction community is an integral part of his success). He’s an amazing storyteller, pays meticulous detail to every aspect of lyrics, production, videography and presentation. He’s got an amazing team that he works with and promotes their work, independent of his own. Great works to check out: Hi Ren, The Tales of Jenny and Screech (full 13 minute version), Money Game 1&2 (Lyric version for MG2), so many choices for rap skills, busking videos with his band “The Big Push”. The Rabbit Hile is deep, and worth the dive. Enjoy, and looking forward to future Ren reactions. 🙂
Your about to blow up. Chase the Ren rabbit hole, and the RENegades will follow. Writes his own, makes his own, produces his own... true independent artist, and his time is right now.
