I work at a Womens Refuge in the UK, sadly Violets tale is all too common. Through his artistic gifts Ren is bringing the dark, ugly, hidden (or ignored!) truths up to the table. Your reaction was great!!

Ren is a musical and lyrical genius! The modern day Shakespeare!!! Just to note, Violet's Tale was written/released over 2 years after Jenny and Screech's Tales! Highly recommend reacting to Ren's Chalk Outlines feat. Chinchilla (the live version). 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Like a David Lynch movie what is playing in your mind with the twist at the end, so dark, so sad and yet so real. That's the life of people we don't know because we don't really see them. They, could have been saved in the first place, but a pregnant woman had to die senselessly and so her kids. Ren made a incredible artistic story telling while using what he knows best, using thoughtful words and stylistic music on top of it. Never listened or experienced reality that way ever. We all have to wake up and cure our societies beginning with ourselves and not shy away from hurtful experiences we might have to endure when interfering, getting in the way of others when being hartless thugs. It shouldn't end here with experiencing Ren only and being deeply touched by his art and story telling.

You really don't have to apologize when you pause the video this "early". The reason why I (and I think most of us) clicked on the video was to watch the song through your eyes. This is it what makes reactions so intreaging💯😅

Oh you’d be surprised at how many people expect me to sit and listen to the entire song without commentary and then just end the “ reaction” at that point… which makes no sense to me whatsoever…. I don’t want to watch some ugly a-hole listen to a song for a few minutes…. Why would anyone else want that? 😂

To all the Ren fans, Ren has a Go Fund Me page atm. He is in Calgary for medical treatment and has just found out that he needs more treatment than originally expected and needs to stay there for 6 months instead of the original 3 months. So if you've enjoyed his music PLEASE if at all possible, help him, no matter how little you can spare 🙏

Wow! Mind blown. What a tale! Again, great breakdown of this trilogy. I have to tell you, this Ren dude has songs that you can’t listen to while driving, songs about subject matter I don’t care for and in a style I don’t care for, and yet, it’s all so compelling and mesmerizing. He is extremely talented. From what I’ve read, he’s recuperating from Lyme Disease, but this dude should have performed “Hi Ren” at the Grammy’s instead of some other wacko crap that was done

Waiting for your react on this. Was not disappointed. No need to write-back. Keep up the reactions! You missed it in the beginning Ren told us that James was called Screech by his boys on the street. Easy to miss a detail when Ren's throwing so much at us. A detail that a lot of people miss, that was implied. The sinister thing between his missing Patrick at Flat number 54 and the Phone call to his girl friend... is that Patrick is what she was "busy" with. This is revealed by Ren in depth in other sources.... but hinted at in the transition at the end of the Knocking on the door/guitar sequence and the beginning of the phone call.

Said this in a previous comment, but worthy of consideration: Chalk Outlines (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4Vn_N5IHHoc.html) - A brutally honest examination of struggles with dependence, depression, suicidal ideation, etc delivered with profound insight and beauty. The Hunger (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1T_fLytBFM4.html) - An incredible demonstration of Ren's spitting chops, 450+ words in 149 seconds with continuous changeups in cadence. The lyrics (found in the comments) are absolutely amazing, telling the story of where he comes from and where he sees himself going.

This is a Shakesperian tragedy. Even the guitar riffs you like so much, to British people are instantly recognisable as being inspired by medieval (Shakesperian times) minstrels lyre riffs. Thought for the night. Isn't that intuition that you say you should listen too, not at least sometimes the voice of fear or self doubt, which for example, in "Hi Ren" is telling him not to do or release his music?

Naming the vignettes "Screech's Tale," "Jenny's Tale," and "Violet's Tale" reminds me of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, each a vignette about a different person. The the guitar intros have a strange middle ages vibe to them.

Heres two tidbits of info. Patrick wasnt home. His gf was busy. Yep you got it. Violets tale was written after jenny and screech (james) but the 2005 refers to the year violets (violent) tale was set in. Jenny and screech was written in 2019. Theres a 14 year gap. Their age at the time of their deaths.

FULL SCRIPT HERE!!!>>>>>> JENNY, SCREECH, AND VIOLET She walked this street countless times. The graffiti on the walls, the lights in the windows, it was all a picturesque image in her head she knew bit by bit at this point. She counted the bricks the way she counted her steps, for a girl like Jenny, this street was more like hers than the flat she called home. There was a chill in the air, and with it, something more. Something she couldn’t quite define. Something sinister and foreboding, whispering in her ear something she couldn’t quite interpret. “Turn around Jenny. Choose a different route. Turn around, stupid girl.” But the words fell flat, quieter than the silence that filled the air. She walks under the streetlights and feels illuminated for a moment in time, feeling the presence of someone not there; someone who should be. Someone who isn’t. She hears the smashing of glass a few streets away, followed by the warning barks of a dog. She hears the shouts of neighbours warning trespassers to go. She sees nobody, and for the moment, she’s happy the sound is so far away from her. Jenny turns the corner, feeling a fraction of happiness for the minute amount of time she doesn’t see him. That moment, she doesn’t collect the image of the man standing outside of the light. She doesn’t pick up the image of someone just outside of her vision. It’s that moment that she thinks of when she chooses a spot on the ground to sleep tonight. “Gimme your fuckin’ money bitch.” he says beneath baited breath, “Don’t think twice about screaming, don’t you dare fuckin’ scream.” She doesn’t see the blade. She doesn’t see his eyes. “Hurry up now, I don’t have all night.” The response is in her head but her throat catches it before she can speak it. I have no money on me. She stands there silent and motionless, a shell of who she was a moment ago. She tries to see his face, to see the human standing before her. She sees a husk. She sees something in a black hoodie. She still doesn’t see the knife. “You think I got time for this, bitch?” She doesn’t see it. She feels warmth in her stomach. She doesn’t look down. The brain doesn’t register. Jenny doesn’t even have time to notice his arm swinging at her stomach over and over. Her mind keeps her safe as she goes weak. “You should’ve just listened.” The figure turns and runs before she even goes to her knees. Wishing she even had the strength to pray. It was there, under that streetlight. It’s here that Jenny chooses to sleep tonight. Her eyes grow heavy and her stomach gets wet. Jenny closes her eyes and chooses to sleep here, on the street she’s walked countless times before. Screech slams on his buddies door, only a street over from where he saw her. “Come on man, let me in. I think I fucked up. I’m not sure,” He shouts so loud he feels the blood in his throat. He hits the door over and over with such force he feels his knuckles pop and his skin tear, yet no one responds. No refuge for our villain, from the bitter hands of fate. No, something far more bitter surely does await. In the distance he hears the banshee-like scream of the sirens coming closer. He continues to knock, yet no one responds. From the street he just left, he hears a scream. One from someone he did not know. From someone who isn’t Jenny. It’s at that moment that the knife in his pocket feels heavier than obsidian. It feels like something alive. Something with purpose. Screech turns around and goes to the corner that connects the streets and pulls out his phone. He runs through his contacts, looking for anyone who might answer his call at this time of night. He sees his girlfriend's name. “Hey babe, you up?” “Hey baby, yeah what’re you up to?” “I’m just wondering if I can pop by. I miss you.” “It’s past midnight, have you been drinking?” “What? No.” “You’re high then.” “The fuck does that mean?” “Screech, go home. It’s too late to be dealing with this right n-” “Fuck you bitch. You fucking-” Dial tone. Silence. Screech is left in the sound of Jenny. The black of night is filled with the blue and red now. Only feet from him, he sees the cars. He can see the men step out of their vehicles and stand above Jenny. One kneels down and puts his hand to her neck. They look at her stomach, where Screech left Jenny silent. One of the officers looked up the road, directly at Screech. They start to walk towards him. The omnipresent power of justice looms over Screech, but he was never one to walk away from a fight. It was at this moment that his knife felt lighter and he held it in his palm once again as the man stepped beneath the streetlights, slowly approaching Screech. He could see the man’s blue eyes now, like the lights that blinded his eyes. He could see his hand on his holster, like the Screech’s on his knife. “Come on you fucking cunt!” The words left his mouth before they passed through his mind. “Let’s fucking go, I’m the ender of Jenny. You think that fuckin’ uniform you’re wearing means that you own these streets? These are my fuckin’ streets, and they call me fuckin’ Screech!” It was at this moment, as Screech approached the officer, that his friend Patrick’s house had lit up behind him. Far too late for Screech to realise or care. When officer James Richard took the call, he didn’t think he’d be in this moment. A woman in distress had called dispatch to report what she believed was a body. James and his partner took the call, they were only two blocks away. When they pulled up on this street, James was familiar with it already. He walked this street countless times before. It was instant that he saw Jenny and where she chose to sleep. James and his partner immediately checked her out, knowing far too soon that she would never wake up. Her stomach was far too red; Jenny was now long dead. It was only moments after that James saw the figure up ahead. He wanted to ask them questions, but thought to feel for his holster instead. It was good that he did so, as Screech was prepared. “Come at me you fuckin’ coward, see how well Jenny fared?!” He saw the glint of metal in Screech’s hand. James had no time to hesitate. He fired four shots into Screech’s chest. One made Screech’s legs get weak. The next made him cry. The third dropped him to his knees. The last one made him die. The story seemed to end, right where it would start. With Screech, and poor Jenny, lying only one street apart. An officer, left shaken. And two bodies were left broken. At a hospital not far from these streets, a woman lay in bed fighting for her life. Bloodstained sheets. The monitors make a rhythmic beat. Covered in sweat, running from a fate she wasn’t ready for. Dealing with the hand she was dealt. To know Violet’s tale, we must rewind the hands of time only just a little. Violet was a quiet girl. Her mother was loud and drunk. Her father was a prick, a bastard, nothing short of a fucking punk. Every night, he tucks her into bed, and the things he’d do… Her mother knew. She’d stay quiet, like her daughter Violet. And her father he’d have his way. But Violet, she’d stay silent, and her father he’d always say. “Violet, you stay quiet and I promise this will be quick.” For fuck sakes, my poor Violet, your father’s one awful prick. When Violet turned sixteen, she moved over and found her own place to stay. Lying to the government was what it took for her to get away. She worked odds and ends to make amends for the hand that she was dealt. Until she met Stephen, that other prick, who reminded her how it felt. Stephen tucked her in at night, and now he’d repeat her fathers words. The things Stephen would do…I’ll save you the trouble of hearing. Late one night, Stephen had his way and things took a violent turn. Punching into Violet's chest, he’d scream and holler and cry. “Say something Violet, quit being so silent.” But Violet held her tongue. “Say something you fucking cunt.” Until Violet had gone numb. “Violet?” The first thing the doctor noticed was Violet was nine months in. Then he saw the scarring and the bruises on her skin. “Please don’t let me lose this child.” She cried and begged and pleaded. Keeping her baby alive was all the Violet needed. `As her world went black, and Violet lost her fight, the doctor’s were sure of one thing and one thing only. Her two babies were healthy, and they’d live long lives. When asked what he wanted them to be named, the father took a moment before two names came to mind. “Jenny and Screech.”

I think one of the best things about Ren is he doesn't really have videos like other people do where there are characters being played by actors or CGI but as you said the imagery that he paints with his words paints a picture in your mind. He truly reminds me of the bards of old. I wouldn't be surprised if two thousand years from now if humans were still around Ren's name wasn't talked about as far as art and music goes he is definitely in the league with Beethoven and Picasso.

I have watched many a reaction to this work by Ren and this one was exceptional. I loved how you took the time to really absorb what you were listening to and get the whole experience. There is one part though, that I don’t think enough people talk about out. This is a very lyrically dense song, in the sense that every word matters but there isn’t a lot of words either. (Not like his rap) However, in the very specific use of very few words he managed to introduce 4 fictional characters so that you become attached to them, invested in their story, and feel true loss at the tragedy that befalls them in the span of 15 min! Ren inspires some incredibly powerful emotion! I love it!

Just found your reaction channel - really like it.. go Browns from NW Pennsylvania! I know this is a reaction to Ren's trilogy, but one comment on the song Hi Ren in particular if I may: I dont think he fully grasps yet what he's accomplished with that song. It is blowing up because it connects on such a primal level - most artists dream of being able to impact in this way. I myself can't stop replaying it, and its way out of my usual genre of folk/rock. What really blows my mind is that the song is about the song. He literally wrote the song about his hesitation over writing it. Never seen this before.. the man is a genius, and beyond talented.

Had that experiance too and in an alley when I was 17 it was a dark wet evening and I see two girls come out of the alley and I thought it must be okay they just went though so I went in and I walked a little way in the hear bells from the church on the other side I immediately thought that is an omen Something bad is gonna happen and I was grappling with that in my head, my gut turned and then I was around a third of the way in when I turned around to see a man had just walked into the alley same way I did I tried to convince myself it was okay but I just knew it was not I tried to turn my head to see if he was faster in than he should have been walking normally but I could not turn my head fully I was scared but I turned my ear like I say it wa raining the rain was making noise but I turned my ear enough to think them foot steps sound nearer than they should and I dropped my head so my chin was my neck and got my hands out my pockets. I knew he was behind me seconds later and as he went to grab my head/mouth with both hands I throw my head back at him as fast and hard as I could which the older me reflects and knows was dangerous but it was the best decision as he was not hoping for a fight from a 17 year old he did try further by pushing me to the green mesh fence again putting a hand on my mouth and I went to smack him up across the side of the head and his hat come off him my hand in the process he made one more attempt to push me me and punch me, missed and grabbed his hat and ran off. Them few moments of intuition and the moments to think made that difference I mean I froze watching him run and know I could not because if he used his brains he would have waited until I was on the iron bridge the alley was heading into which was wet from the rain and I had to make sure he was gone before I went over it but I was of course shocked and tried to scream as there were houses each side of the ally opening he was leaving from but nothing came out when I tried because I was that shock up but in that moment it happened I had that little warning in my head that allowed me to contemplate that one action that shock him up a little too

The only thing I would say about the Mum in that situation is that she is often being heavily abused herself and threatened with her life. From personal experience it took the violence nearly reaching the point one of us would die that our Mum could finally break us all out of it. so i think we need to be cautious not to say the Mum's are worse, they are often the worst victim. Great reaction vid though.

Thank you! I was hoping someone would have said this already. Imagine Violet hadn't died there, that she gave birth to their children and stayed with Stevie. Imagine Stevie started abusing the kids too. If someone tries to tell me that Violet is then suddenly worse than Stevie, I think they have been conditioned to blame women. The abuser is the one responsible for stopping the abuse. I know that almost never happens, and it falls on the victims to get out, but villifying them for not having the strength is cruel.

This is why you need to pay attention, lol. :) You were wondering when Screech had appeared, after he'd already been introduced. "James... his mates call him Screech..." I worry how confused you're going to be by the end of Violet's Tale! :) If you miss a line with Ren, not only have you likely missed some beautiful poetry, amazing wordplay, hilarious dry as a bone humour, or some heartbreaking pathos, if he's telling a tale, you could end up missing a vital piece of information. Maybe even the lynchpin of the entire narrative. Ren's definitely not background music. You do need to listen, to fully appreciate it. :)

Ren did a special live performance of this in front of his home crowd in Brighton, where he is adored! I wasn't sure it could work as a live performance, but it does, brilliantly. It's worth watching that one as it has a couple of extra items which aren't in the original films. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S_hs8EkWeZg.html

I think his theme here is the generational cycle of abuse continuing. When he introduced Jenny she had been walking the streets and wanted to escape - and we now know she was only 14. It was clear that Screech was troubled, had anger issues and out on the streets into trouble regularly at the age of 14. So Violet from an early age was introduced to abuse and an unhealthy family role models. She moved out young. And fell for someone who would also abuse her. Jenny and Screech both went into foster care. I would say they too were abused or neglected. Just like Violet. Sound too deep? Consider this…his father is a therapist or something like that and he even shot a video when Ren was a teen showing teens making one stupid bad decision that went wrong. The video was part of his meeting with the Corrections system to discuss the difference between hard criminals and those perpetrated by single bad momentary choices. I’d say when you are raised in a home like Ren, you certainly have been exposed to the discussions about abuse patterns continuing through the generations. This trilogy is hard but he is trying to bring awareness about real hard issues. Glad to know he has a lot of ‘beautiful’ stuff too. Check out his Bittersweet Symphony (a Verve retake).

Edit yourself from restating the obvious to your audience. Right away you lost track of the story as you went into a long tangent of several personal stories. Way to avoid advertising is to pay YT for premium. The backstory is that Ren read a newspaper story about a youth who killed a young prostitute in a crime ridden part of London and a responding police officer shot him to death. It was the quote of his commanding officer in the paper where he said 'they were so young, it's such a shame.' The basis of that repeated lyric. Ren did these a year apart, and thankfully you were directed to the full version in order. Ren did 'Violet's Tale' to speak to the Intergenerational Trauma that perpetuates dysfunction, the children not knowing their parents but still growing up likely in abuse and neglect repeated the patterns of their parents.

I think that people have got the wrong idea... the "two twins lying side by side" aren't Jenny and Screech - they are not the same age and can't be twins. The two twins lying side by side are Jenny and Violet, both killed on the same night by two different broken "men" taken over by the devil. Violet left home at 16, but it seems to me that Jenny was "dragging her feet" - reluctantly - walking home to the father that Violet escaped from - Hence her desire to escape like Violet did. But on that night the devil came to dance and both of them succumbed.

Finally had time to sit down and respond to this… I will go over some of the highlights for you, first up is the March 1967 Sharon Tate playboy sealed in plastic but not in mint condition. Sharon tate was a victim of the Manson family murders. 2 bottles of aunt jamima syrup, original and butter flavor, with the full logos, before the changed to pearl milling company. Old school Washington redskins hat with logo, a bottle of the walking dead “blood red” wine, the original ps1 version of final fantasy vii as well as a copy of final fantasy vii remake for ps4, there is a pickle Rick dill flavored gummy, an Olympic summer games hat I got from the Olympics in Atlanta as a child, a football card I hand made for a player I made up in my head as a child, a hot wheel I bought from big fun (a vintage toy store near me) before they went out of business, a centerpiece from my first sons baby shower that my wife and I handmade, a picture of me and my wife, and a picture of me and my buddies on our high school graduation day… there may be a few odds and ends I missed but that’s mostly it!
