Old Beasties fan here and I’ve loved this one since I heard it! He’s said it is an homage to the BBoys and I think he did an incredible job of bringing in so many of their elements.

This was old school classic, brought me back to my high school years when the drumline would blast the latest Beastie Boys cassette in the back of the band room.
Don't know about Beastie Boys, but Ren is a Beast for sure : ) He just keeps breaking the mold... just when you think you know Ren, you find out you really don't know Ren. I hear you. My family and friend are worn out over me stopping school kids on the street when I’m out getting the mail and having them subscribe to Ren. At the bank, the book store, the park, the grocery store, ….. I just love his work so much , I’ve got to spread the word.

Hey man, happy belated birthday, oh to be 30 again. I really like that idea of going to NY and interviewing people about Ren's style, are you going to film it and make like a mini documentary, or just maybe do audio and some handheld or phone footage? Either way that would be cool, I know ya don't know me, if ya want some help I do drone photography, and also have some decent lighting and sound equipment, I retired about 5yrs early from being a firefighter, and having trouble staying busy, physically and mentally, thinking about taking the camper on the road this spring/summer, I got some volunteer/activism dates lined up later in the summer, but other than that not sure where I'm heading, I'm in the Lou (Missouri), got some friends in Alabama and family in Georgia, I might visit, never been to the big apple though. Just throwing it out there, it would be for the love of hip-hop, not asking you to pay me or anything just to be clear...lol Oh yeah, btw, I don't know this for a fact, but I'm like 95% sure this song pays homage directly to the Beastie Boys, so you were right on. I mean they often coordinated outfits, like the ghostbuster deal Ren and his boys had on, many of their videos are them just out on the streets of NY clowning and having fun, and they were responsible for making that extreme fish eye filming style popular, in the days before 360 cameras. Oh yeah and they have a song called "What'cha Want". I been checking out your reactions, LOVE THEM BTW, but I don't think I saw any Beastie Boys, or maybe that's because you know all their songs, bro if not, from what I can tell from your taste, you would LOVE a deep dive into them. There's youtube vidoes of people making the case for them being #1 GOAT of all time, when it comes to influence and impact they had on the genre . You know they discovered LL Cool J and begged Rick Rubin to listen to his mixed tape, and the insisted on bringing a little known underground band, at the time, on their first tour in 1983, to open for them, a band you might of heard of called Public Enemy. Probably why Chuck D and LL were the ones to induct the Boys into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Don't be turned off by "No Sleep to Brooklyn" or "Fight For Your Right To Party" Totally the label's choice to "ease them into mainstream" They're not bad songs, but no where near the level they would rise to as hip-hop artists.
