This song is beyond powerful....I lost my son. He was 39 ....so much to live for but diagnosed bipolar...his medications were the wrong mix. He didn't know how to tell them he was not just an alcoholic or addict that you could not just put him in their cookie cutter categories....not one of the drugs he was prescribed was enough on their own to kill him...mixed proved lethal...I can hear his angst in this song...I can see his face with that great big smile....I miss him.

I’m a 54 year old man, and I have never FELT music like when I listen to REN. I don’t know what that says about my mental state, but it is what it is. And Chinchilla is amazing in this, and to be honest, so is the person with the camera.

Mental health awareness is so important. This is exactly what we do. We fill our void with drugs or anything that makes us forget for a little while. I mainlined everything from heroin to meth in hopes I would die. I am sober now and have been for 17 months, and I've never felt more empty.

I have been following Ren on Facebook probably for 6 years. I remember him playing his guitar busking in the streets when he would post his videos and then he started to make or videos and more music and recently he has taken off and I'm still here. As someone who is 59 and bipolar I find this song stunning. I’ve been through most medications and still have severe symptoms mania and depression and music is something that has always been there for me, no matter what I go through. Then to stumble upon this song? Ren has described what I feel. I’ve had to trace those chalk lines around myself after trying so many medications hoping one would finally work without negative side effects. Many many days I feel like a chalk outline, not really knowing who I am because I let myself be defined by bipolar symptoms or medication side effect symptoms. Then the first time I listened to this song I was confused. This video has been on RU-vid for a year and I’m just now hearing it? The writing, the singers, the simple elegant guitar, the acoustics, the harmonies? Why this song hasn’t had recognization is baffling, it’s more beautiful than anything I’ve heard in a long, long time. Then add in Ren’s other songs and I’m in awe. If this song does gain attention I hope that Ren and Chinchilla are the only ones that ever perform it. I’d hate to see some big artist step in and want to sing it themselves. Ren deserves recognition and success for the music and lyrics as well as Chinchilla for her gorgeous voice. I sincerely hope Ren starts feeling better with his treatments so he can keep making his music and keep creating his music. I’m in awe at his talent.

We had to dig hard to find underground independent artists, now RU-vid algorithms is showing us incredible people like Ren and CHINCHILLA. You became one of my favorite artists in an instant. I have a deep love for roots reggae and dub, but I love songwriters like Father John Misty and also a good breakbeat rave up.. ...... Today, in you I think I've seen the future. I am sure you don't need me to tell you that you're a true artist Ren - you know the risks you've taken and the sacrifices you've made - but we can see it too. It's paying off in your art. 40 years old, barely ever cried as an adult. You made me melt in tears like there's no tomorrow.. what the hell are you doing to me? The only thing I can think of is, only someone who've experienced real pain can convey words in such a way that only someone else who's experienced it knows how to translate into emotions. That's breaking me appart man... but it only goes to show what a special human being you are. If you could unravel me like you just did, me, who's protective shell has always been there to protect ever since I was a kid and always did its thing like a charm (Sometimes too well), there's no telling what you can do. I just listened to that about 10 times in a row. I'm 54 and have been free from opiates for 17 months now. Hope is alive and well and no-one is truly alone. Ren keeps blowing my mind with his music. The lyrics are so relatable, and he is so freaking talented it's crazy. Which I guess is why he's showing up on everyone's radar now. Don't know how it took so long. SORRY FOR THE LONG WINDED COMMENT: I started to listen to Ren less than a month ago and have found a new favorite singer/songwriter to listen to everyday. I am an older man who spent his life in service of others. Both in the military and as a paramedic. I have dealt with so many different situations over the years from something happy, like helping deliver twins on a Christmas morning to telling a new mother that their 28 day old baby has died. I've seen so much stuff that after a decade and a half, my mind said FU and started having symptoms of PTSD. I chose to ignore the signs and I paid a hefty price. I let it continue to drag me down to the point of having a near mental breakdown. One day I'm doing the job I love to the next being told I can never do it again. The PTSD destroy who I was before. I was a confident paramedic that had been in so many situations that there was very little that I could experience in the job that I had not seen to a very weak man who struggled just to get through the day. It destroyed my relationship with my family and in the end being sent to a mental facility to treat self death desires. I was truly alone. My ex refused to go to therapy with me to learn what I am going through and thought that I should have gotten back to work within a week. She pushed my kids to hate me and spoke badly about me to other people. This has now led me to moving out and helping my parents who are elderly. Dad's paralyzed and Mom has severe breathing problems. I thought I could help them since I do have all that medical knowledge in my head. This has been a pretty good move getting away from driving past so many locations that would bring back memories that were not so good. I've divorced my wife and I am now talking with my son again. The daughter, not so much. We are alike but also very different and until she experiences life and has the ability to see what I've done throughout my life, we probably won't talk. I'm ok with that now. I do feel that once I started listening to Ren, it's helped me to cope better in some situations. I think with his music and continued therapy I will get past it all. Ren seems like good people and a very intelligent man both in his ability to make music but to write about subjects that connect with so many people of varying backgrounds.

I went through some tragedies back to back. They pit me on antidepressants. They ruined my life. Put me in a pure psychosis. I've spent the last 5 years recovering. This music hits my soul. No one knows but I feel they do. The suffering some endure. It's truly insufferable.

So many nights as a kid, I sat and prayed hoping I would wake up as someone else in the morning. Ren, your songs all move me in different ways but this one hits a part of my heart that I didn't know still hurts so strongly. Thank you for leaning into your genius and allowing us to revel in it with you.

There’s something magical about a musician who bares his soul for his craft. “Hi Ren” made me cry because of its relatability to my life. This song is transformative because because this IS me.
