I think this one's studio version is very good too (just a tiny bit better for my taste although the live performance is amazing). I like the cello and less intense singing in the studio version. For Chalk Outlines, it is the live version for sure (the busking video where Ren sings it solo is very good too).
I nearly always prefer a live version, especially when it's Ren! This was no exception! Another masterpiece composition from Ren and the performance was out of this World, from both of them. Even the guitar playing was perfect! :)
Love that this one was water bottle squeeze worthy. Twice! Her name Chinchilla makes perfect sense to me now, because she just gave me chills from my chin to my ooh la la. Ren, well he's just from another planet. Much love and love much
‘Embody’ what a great word. Rare and wonderful live performance by this amazing duo. Gives me the shivers EVERY TIME. The feeling of personal pain and loss is embodied within the lyric, instrumental, and vocal arrangements. Well done you. A wonderful reaction❤
Man, you GOT to see how he rap raps, for real! "Losing it", "The Hunger" and "Sick Boi" ... and then there's "Humble" which has that cool uplifting island feel : )))) When you think you know Ren, you really don't know Ren XD
Nice reaction to this GENIUS of an authentic & true artist. Reacters are gaining lots of mileage out of Ren's content & it would be fantastic for him if you all start VERBALLY encouraging your followers to subscribe to his channel 🤔 It's disappointing to see Hi Ren, alone, has been viewed approximately 8m times but he hasn't even reached 1m subscribers yet. Come on! Let's help him! Cheers 👍🍻
Ren and Chinchilla, Ren and Sam Tompkins and Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying are duos born to sing together, I’m new to Ren so not real far in his catalog and now I’m checking out Sam, The Big Push, Chinchilla, etc
Another great reaction. As for "How to Be Me," Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide; Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs, "Freckled Angels" being one example. It is dedicated to Joe Hughes, who went missing on the 27th of December, 2010. Their live performance of "Chalk Outlines" is still my favorite song, partly because I can relate to it due to my own daily struggles. Although, losing your best friend to suicide is also something I experienced when I was 19 y/o (almost 38 years ago). “How to Be Me” definitely runs a close second, though. I would also recommend their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk in love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover); those performances are of a much lighter mood and very enjoyable. In case you didn't already know, Chinchilla (Daisy Bertenshaw) is 26 years old, from London, UK, and a rising star on the British music scene. She was a supporting act on Sting's 2019 European Arena tour and the opening act for the 2021 McFly tour. Chinchilla has also played some big European music festivals. Her songs "Cold Water" and "Shadows [Tails]" are beautiful, but her entire catalog is worth listening to. Here is the link to her YT channel: ru-vid.com/show-UCZc7gfR6BH-mGJh0_EgHAIQ I hope you will continue to dive into Ren's and Chinchilla's catalogs
I'm addicted lately to all of Ren's music but on this and Chalk Outlines it's the passion in Chinchilla's voice that gives me those pleasure chills. Simply outstanding.
These vocals have that southern Baptist flavor, love that. Living in the deep south I have a lot of black friends, had one black girlfriends back in the day. So even though i am not a church goer I have been dragged to a few Baptist churches on some random Sunday. I always found the singing infectious. Even if ya don't know the words you are compelled to hum, lol. A lot of that going on here. I'm here for it. Loved this.
One of the greatest things i like about these two doing songs together (other than the songs themselves), is what you metioned. They stare into each others eyes throughout the songs with complete and utter pain and understanding for each other. It gives the songs so much more emotion and depth than if it was a studio recording with a MV. Its simply just two people who understand each others sadness and its very beautiful!
I knew you would love and appreciate the amount of talent and emotion they put on display in this song! They are amazing together! Great effing reaction! I love how you also sing what you hear...and nail it!
Oh my, I'm a fan. I've only listened to a couple of his songs. This one is eerie, but in a good way if you listen carefully to the words. They do compliment each other. Look forward to more Ren and Cinchilla.👍☝️🤓
I love and appreciate this song more every time I hear it ... and it must be 250 times in the past couple of months alone lol. It's insane. Thanks for immediately recognizing all the gorgeous melodic shifts and imitating them so beautifully!
Loved your reaction - they are so good together. This song is about Ren's friend Joe Hughes who sadly took his own life at the age of 19 (by jumping off the Menai bridge at around 3.00 a.m. on 28 December 2010). Ren wrote the song Freckled Angels about Joe and also dedicated the album of the same name to him
Awesome reaction. I think you’d also be equally impressed if you watched a chinchilla solo song, may I suggest Fingers live. Full of quirky yet stunning vocal effects that just ooze out of her.
Great reaction! This song really hits! The vocals, the lyrics, the emotion… WOW! The arrangement! You can see him “directing” the timing, etc. with his hands. Perfect.
Everytime I watch your reactions my appreciation for the artists & songs grow. Your joy is always wonderful too. Do feel sorry for the water bottle 😊 I've started watching more by Chinchilla. For some reason her ability to play with lyrics with such an extraordinary range, like an artist with paint, reminds me of Matt Corby. Except now I see what you mean about Ren & Chinchilla being so very similar. Both are creative geniuses whose gift is music.
There's few reactors with a voice like yours. There's only one who can put a smile on my face every time I watch them. Thank you! 🖤 Much love From STHLM, Sweden
Great reaction buddy. The ooh, ooh sections are imitating the cello that is on the studio version. They nail it!! BTW. Your mic commentary is only coming out on the right side of my cans. The Ren video is fine though.
They are just incredible aren't they?!? More Ren reactions please! I think you will LOVE his street performances with the band Big Push and with his friend Sam Tompkins
Yeah, the fact that they don't usually let talent like that go. It's kinda interesting when both ren and chinchilla have been signed and both are no longer signed.😂
Don’t worry I just subscribed man I like you! You are a nice guy and smart as fuck. You are such a good singer too I’m jealous haha but yeah you got my vote ❤
Ren's song writing is so good. "The fear baptized me!" Baptism is a very Christian sacrament showing your initiation into being a Christian, leaving behind whom you were before and being reborn. Here...the fear has baptized him. Powerful imagery imo.
I think they are friends. I don’t know if what is said in comments has the same restrictions that you as a reactor has so I will say it differently just in case. The song is about Ren’s friend. They are singing on the bridge that he used to delete himself. 😢❤
Your audio is jacked my guy, every time you pause the video to talk it’s only coming out of one side of the headphones. Soon as you press play on the video , the audio is good again.
People were contesting the copywright and ren would than dismiss the claim. It is an automatic system i believe that flags the videoa. Not 100% sure though.
Yes, if it's just the auto-generated ContentID claims, dispute (not appeal) it, and Ren will release the claim and whitelist your channel. But there are some bogus "companies" out there trying to submit copyright claims on anything popular; I don't know how you combat that.
Any hiccups you are experiencing with his content might be because of how polarizing he is without corporate backing. Anything to suppress his message should not be a surprise. Keep doing what you do, sir.
