The PRIZE here is ANASTASIA. The regal elegance, style, poetry and power in Mark is captured in full splendor. The portrait is alive.. I'm puzzled how 3 judges rated her "Too Good" in a competition where the BEST should win. Go figure...!!!

They were jealous of her.
@MrQbenDanny

@@AFAskygoddess It's a fair statement. But worse than that, the judges betrayed their own assignment. How is the winning portrait in the RENAISSANCE STYLE?

We're so used to looking at selfies that we don't recognize lens distortion anymore? I'm really confused. My only explanation, judging from previous seasons, is that having Anastasia in the competition would have meant effectively having no one that could even approach her level up to the end.

Few takeaways. Saying someone is too good a painter as a slight is why artists should never listen to critics. As an American, that’s a very British criticism of a Russian. Anastasia’s was the best.

Her work is very much in line with artist's workshop/studio techniques, and it's a very common way to paint realism. Go into any european art school and you will see a ton of these types of works. They're beautiful and skilled, but do not require creativity. Just technique. Fundamentally, anyone can learn how to paint classical alla prima oil portraits with that very traditional palette.

Since you said, it is "portrait-painting in renaissance-inspired" manner, so there is only one painting fulfills .this : Anastasia's one. All other's don't do. nothing with renaissance. (In my opinion)

interesting, the only "renaissance-inspired" painter was the russian, those russians!..."too good to win" also she was... that statement nearly destroyed my interest in this show by the way.

Eve was also on Escape to the Country.I didn't watch the whole thing because her annoying squeaky, little girl voice was shrilling. In fact, it was her voice that I realized she had been on another British program. She likes to be on camera.

Have you noticed that there are usually these 'posh' people who are put supposedly randomly onto any TV show they can squeeze them on. Clearly Eve is no artist! Just the same derivative, unskilled pastiche of earlier painters....

I think Stephen Mangan's little chats with the artists actually distracts them from their work, in an attempt to say something humorous.

@liv0003

@@richardwebb2348 so?? many artists use and used pictures as references, including many who have made the history of art and which you find in the most important museums around the world. Any artist has a reference, whether it is a live subject or a photograph or a mix of both, it is the most common thing for 99% of artists .
