Just came across your channel randomly last night. Really nice to hear someone put into words some thoughts I've been having regarding learning, self-study, and increasing the desire to read. Love it and I'm planning on watching quite a few more of your videos.

As an 18-year-old teenager in 1971, I read two books by Dale Carnegie. They were 'How To Stop Worrying And Start Living' and 'How To Win Friends and Influence People' both extremely helpful in negotiating life as was Norman Vincent Peale's book The Power of Positive Thinking. I’ve read these books several times over the years. All of these books were written in the early to mid C20 and are timeless classics. NVP seems to be a controversial character but his book is worth a read. Have been meaning to read Marcus Aurelius must get a copy. Thankyou R.C. for the list of books and will look into them to find out what they are about. Kind Regards

Instead of 7 Habits, I'd recommend The Slight Edge. I've read quite a few self-improvement books and that was definitely in my top 3. It's a really simple philosophy, easy to incorporate and creates huge changes!

A life-transforming book I would recommend especially to all artists and creatives is "ART & FEAR" by David Bayles and Ted Orland. I was just starting community college back in 1995 when I found this slim volume in a used book shoppe, and it altered the course of my life. It goes into the factors that hold us back as artists, and ways to overcome them, in such an empowering way. The attrition rate for working artists is tragic; multiple times I have given my copy away to a fellow artist in crisis. I can trace my rewarding career as an artisan and illustrator back to this one powerful little tome.

I first heard about the term 'homo universalis' during history class on the Renaissance when I was an early teen. Ever since I've been wanting to become this 'homo universalis', a person who understands everything in the universe. Now I'm a PhD student in Japan and I realise that I can't learn 'everything' and that is it an impossible feat. However, I subscribed myself to a life-long learning philosophy where I would try to learn things outside of my comfort zone and keep looking for new, even small, challenges that keep me on my toes. I really like your list. The Meditations lives permanently on my bedside table and I re-read parts of it now and again. Another great Stoic philosophy book is the Discourses by Epictetus.

Someone once told me read 100 books to forget 100 books. some one else told me read 100 books to remeber 1 book. It looks inpresive to read 100 books a year on paper but after that much reading, how much of that reading do you remember, how much of that reading has stuck with you, and how much did it blur togther. Reading 10 books a year is dosnt look inpressive on paper but i have retaned more from the 10 books

I dont think the point of reading is to remember very detail you read, but rather pick up tidbits of information and overall knowledge, so when presented with the subject, you can engage in conversation. Weather its at school, dinner or wherever. For me, There are a handful of books that have fundamentally changed my life and rewired my brains way of thinking. The first book that had this effect on me was “Rich Dad Poor Dad” which completely changed the way I manage and look at money. Most recently, I read the Autobiography of Malcolm X, an amazing story that changed my way of thinking as well.

Okay, you guys get this for free b/c I like you. But I'll give you the top 5 most important books to read before you die. Now, I have it on good authority (it is not my list goddammit, I'm just the fucking messenger) that this is the end-all and be-all of Top 5 most important books in the world lists. The paper list itself actually contained 100 books, but that was lost in a fire. Luckily, I committed all 100 titles to memory. Behold "The Top 5 of the most important 100 books ever written: 1. The Collected Works of William Shakespeare 2. The Bible (KJV) 3. Don Quixote 4.The Illiad 5. The Odyssey

Dude, work on your malapropisms. It's "at our disposal" not "at our disposition." Disposition means something akin to "mood" or "character." Disposal, in the context of what you are talking about, means what is available to be used. Also, it's "incomprehensible" not "incomprehensive." The first means "not capable of being understood" the second is not a real word, though "comprehensive" means "all encompassing." Also, "Sapiens" is a garbage book. Other than that, good video.
