No IT IS NOT A FAKE I was there, she was in splendid form. I was sitting on the gradinate very far from the stage yet you could hear every pianissimo, when she pulled out the full voice here it was huge, almost Wagnerian in dimension, this video doesn't nearly give the physical impact of her voice that evening. Scotto at this stage of her career often had bad nights, there are plenty of documents out there that testify to this. I remember a recital at La Fenice where she sang an awful programme of numbers from the American Musical repertoire, it was terrible, she seemed to have no control over her voice. This Butterfly began badly, with a huge wailing wobble at the entrance: "F**k, it's one of those bad nights" - I thought. But after about 10 minutes the voice became perfectly steady, there was nothing she couldn't do, she had the audience spell-bound. It remains to this day one of the very great experiences of my opera-going experience.

Invece, non è falso. Io c'ero, era una serata incredibile.
