The Renault 16 was one of the first cars with a hatchback body style, that is, a car halfway between a saloon and an estate, and, before the term"hatchback" was coined, journalists struggled to describe it.
@@darrenwilson8042 that's an issue that could easily be corrected. Even though I kinda like the elevated rear cushion, which makes for a loft bed for the child, while the adults sleep in the recliners below.
For anyone watching who owns a TS,... 195 front, 175 rear tyres, and match the exhaust pipe to the manifold flange inside diameter instead of the stock drinking straw pipe.. transforms the car in to what it really was, the First Hot Hatch, able to frighten Mk1 GTi owners in a straight line, and out corner them everywhere else.
I drove a 16 TX for more then a year and my uncle had the 16 TS back then. I loved it, electric windows, arm support in the middle, tainted glass, fifth gear, fifthe door, position of the levers, steering wheel size and upward positioning. I would like to own a Peugeot 404 or a Citroen DS somewhere in the future. Ah, yes, cars from my childhood, gotta love them.
This is the most important car EVER without a doubt, it even looks like an SUV so far advanced and perfect in design, Steve Jobs would have approved I believe.
This is still a modern car. Adapted to today's safety requirements and equipped with an ecological drive system, this car could still cause a sensation.
Beautiful video of the era of the French RENAULT 16 L the only car more versatile than cars of larger dimensions ... wonderful video !! RENAULT 16 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 😍😍😍😍😍😍
R16 was far from simple to change starter motor. My dad spent many hours into the smalls changing one over on one of his '16's first one a brown tl the second a silver ts. I can still recall all the swearing coming from the garage.
R16 was presented to the public for the first time in the Show of Geneva in March, 1965 (not in 1963)
I think automakers should re-release their highly successful models that have reached iconic status. Albeit, retrofitted with the improvements befitting the times. I'd definitely be interested in purchasing a 16, DS, CX, or 404.
The French have so many great designs from the past. The new Renault 4 and 5 EVs are a great start but imagine a new version of the Renault 16, Citroen DS or 2CV.
En arrière dans le temps en Algérie j'ai entendu que R16 n'a pas été autorisé à se garer a cote des banques en raison de ses capacités de vitesse, n'importe qui le confirme?
This car was way ahead of its time and the competition. By the time the awful Maxi was introduced, Renault had developed it even further. Wasn't a huge success in the UK though.
PAF ! La nouvelle mode hatchback dès les années 60 grâce à la R16. Avec cela les incultes savaient confondre une 404 avec une Volvo ! Les sedans l’ont eu dans l’os 😁
