100% upgrade, modernise, improve and make your own...all day long ... your car your choice ... you ain't selling it so you don't have to please the masses . Alcantara is defo the way forward where possible and even consider a starlight roof lining

Thanks for your comment! I think the starlight roof is one step too far for me but still considering the Alcantara 👌

One of my friends got his old Mercedes sun cracked dashboard renovated and covered in the same looking vinyl as the original. It looks like a completely new original dashboard. The company is located in Germany. If you are interested I can try figure out the name of the company

Even if you are doing this for your own fun and not a proper historic resto, I would keep as many parts original as possible. Not only adds value to the car, it also makes it much easier to blend with any other 2nd hand or recovered ones you might come across in the future. Good thing about these 80s-90s cars, you can easily just make/use any part in black or grey and it will match quite nicely with the rest, ready to be replaced or upgraded in the future. You already have f.e. the original seat covers ----> Then use them! You can just trim the rear seat flat black and it will look great, same with the doorcards you already have. If you go Alcantara, any original part will look out of place. Plus, it will be more expensive than using flat black cloth and DIY. Oh and you can also get inexpensive parts from the cheaper R5 versions and just paint them with rattle cans or retrim them yourself. EDIT: Also, be honest with yourself: You know that as your car starts looking better, you will want it to look more and more "factory", specially since it's staying with you long term and there is no hurry.

Trimming the existing plastics sounds like a good plan with Alcantara.. I wouldn't worry about using it on the roof lining.. as it looked in good condition.. use a good quality high temp spray glue so it doesn't come unstuck in high temps... I used TRIMFIX HIGH TEMP SPRAY ADHESIVE 500 ML. 😎👍

I'd cover them in alcantara and cover the roof lining to match. Loving watching the progress helps keep me motivated doing my own.

@Renault5Rebuild I'm just taking lots of photos so I can hopefully put it back together, but it's in a bit more of a state than yours, so I've spent hour after hour welding but it's getting closer

I think recycle as much as you can by covering it…. Then if you find second hand parts that are better you can easily make them match….. I’ve got headliner spray, remind me in 2 years when you ready to put it back in 😂😂 joke :-)

Well I did think it might take a few years… but we are currently going at an ok rate! Won’t be long until I need some help with the engine 😉
