I own a Clio with that engine for about 4 years, and can't complain. If you adjust the valve clearance and put some KN filter, iridium spark plugs in it + 100 Shell V-Power, it accelerates pretty fast, for just 1.4 55kW engine. You can even beat some cars with stronger engines :)
You just need to compare it with 16 V version you will see the difference especially above 100 kilometers per hour in 5th gear that 16v engine goes and goes around and around up to the rev limiter and this one is like a asthmatic over 120 I know it because I have that 16v version
My clio phase1 from 1991 did 205km/h just the 1.4 8v energy engine with 86hp but just a bit tuned only with a jr open air filter right on top of the throttle body 0-100km/h in 9s
That kind of film shows up perfectly the difference between 8 and 16 V. It is just nothing to compare. That one it's quiet slow in comparance with its more developer brother.
Something is wrong... I had a 1.2l 60hp Clio and the top speed was 159km/h on paper. On the speedo i got to 170km/h. Something is wrong with this car...
Yes, that is why i've mentioned both things. When the speedo got to 170km/h, the TomTom GPS was reporting 160km/h. I've made several tests. Once i reached 190km/h downhill... big downhill. On the GPS, don't know :P . So your 1.4 should be faster. It has 80hp right?
Nice video! But I bet that that isn't the top speed. In a clio sedan (symbol) with the same engine, 5 people in the car, full boot, A/C on and I got 160 km/h.
Dude, if it is a diesel, of course you cant go more than 4K rpm.... if you try to hit more rpm, you will kill the engine. Renault used both panel models for petrol and diesel to reduce costs.. in a diesel one, it marks 7k rpms but you cant reach it
Hey, I have that engine, average: 6l/100km, in town: 7.5l/100km, out of town: 5.5l/100km. Of course, that depends on the driver :) In the winter, it's about 0.5l more.
7 seconds to 17 seconds. It's only 10-11 seconds. It's so normal. I have a Renault 9. It has an E7J Energy Motor. This motor produced with Renault 9,19,Clio Phase 1. This motor has 1400cc monopoint injection and the power 80bhp. Factory data of this engine is 12.5s (0 to100km)
