I was looking to buy this actual car, the owner said hpi clear but looking at the mot history it noted the rear damage which was why the advert was changed to state it being previously written off. Paid more for a cup but am glad I did ... great videos.. keep them coming
haha, yeah it has turned out to cost a bit more than initially expected but got the car for a good price to start with due to it being a cat d. Think we are about £1k in now. the car is running sweet and pretty much ready to track now, next vid shows how she drives
Guys That Drive these cars are addictive.. I've done 7 track days in my 172 cup within 2 months. I am £6k in, decent suspension and brakes is worth every penny
Tim Vine Thanks for the comment, we did know about the disc and was wondering how long it would take someone to notice. The grinder was a last minute edition and Ash couldn’t find the tool to remove the cutting disc in time to switch it over so we had no choice but to use the disc that was already on it and fortunately it worked. Stick with us and thanks for watching. The GTD
+Tim Vine cheers Tim! We borrowed the grinder, the cutting disk seemed to get through the bolts okay, will know for next time! Next track car episode going live this eve- more DIY...
Good stuff! We eventually want to put a k-tec stealth exhaust on ours but they are a bit more expensive than our shitty £30 one! A few other track mods to do before we go after a better exhaust note! They do sound so good though with an exhaust and induction kit, you could get yours sounding like this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xW3wiZFeXeY.html
Guys That Drive, that sounds sweet. We are running standard car class in hull climb so mods are kept to a minimum. A fresh set of suspension is due at some point.
Arts&Trusts Thanks, glad you enjoy the vids! We found it to be a weeping seal on the gearbox- apparently it is very common. The only proper solution is a gearbox strip down and rebuild with new seals. The cheap alternative is to keep topping up the gearbox with oil. It’s only a very slow leak so we aren’t too concerned
The Harris Hi mate, when we changed it be bought a new gasket (midpipe to cat) and then 2 new bolts and 2 new nuts. All genuine items from Renault parts direct online from memory. We also changed the middle and rear exhaust hangers too whilst there. You may need to sleeve the original system too depending on what type it is as well and Renault do a kit for this. Hope this helps.
Hi guys. Maybe I missed that. But what's the mileage of your Clio? I heard about some problems with transmissions at some point. I'm looking for 172 too, but in Europe, it's too expensive or with enormous mileage
Petr Kantner we bought the car on 78k miles, now on just over 80k. No issues with this gearbox at the moment. The synchromesh can wear leading to grinding on high rpm gear changes and get progressively worse. The polybushed dog bone will hopefully prolong the life of our ‘box as it makes the gear change a lot smoother and tighter
TEC the original rubber bush in the mount perishes over time and contributes to the excessive engine movement under acceleration. By putting a polyurethane bush in the mount it makes things a lot stiffer and the gear change tightens up quite a bit too. We also need to change the top engine mount as ours has perished and also got an excessive amount of movement
Sound according to price. :D I used to have a Ph2 172 (not cup) and it had all the same flaws as yours seems to have. Had the KTR "stealth" exhaust installed, it sounded lovely and kept the complete stock look. Well it also was more than £30. All in all loved that car very much!
bad things of this exhaust, the sound... it's too quiet but is incredible the change when you mod the air intake because this types of exhaust systems has been made with maths
