Renault Clio 2006 wipers not working. Fault finding and repair. 

Glad to have found your video. It's very important to keep the drain ports on either side clear and unobstructed with this car. I had exactly the same problem - after dismantling the entire mechanism and opening up the drive motor switch case to find no fault there ,discovered one of the wiper shafts had almost seized in it's housing . It was quite a battle to remove this and clean out the debris etc. that had accumulated inside this , removing the corrosion around the bushes. Fitted "O"rings to the under parts of the shafts with lube applied and got good operation again after refitting.

I wouldn’t have bothered fixing the old one. I’m glad it broke as in my mind it was not worth the headache of the wipers packing up on the motorway. So I’m glad you bought replacement. Things happen for the best I guess. Good video.

I have just mirrored everything you did, one of my daughters clio wiper linkage had siezed. I had to buy a new one too. But it doesn't park correctly . Great video.

This one was an old school repair in terms of repairing the wipers mechanism, & things break in this situation, I remember trying to change a bearing on A/C idler pulley which was made of plastic & ended up breaking it even hammering gently🔨 It happens😉 Thanks for sharing Bro👍 & Stay safe Bro❤

Thanks for this great video and your analytical approach. It helped me understand how the wiper motor protection works with the ECU on the Clio 3. I previously had water collecting in the rain box due to blocked drains. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE RENAULTS - KEEP THESE CLEAN. Apparently the wiper drive was also standing in water. When we now had a sudden cold snap, the residual water in the gearbox probably froze. The drive was stuck. The fuses were intact, but as you demonstrated the switch had no effect. Finally, I removed the whole unit, opened it, cleaned it and lightly polished all the electrical contacts in the gearbox with a rough eraser. I also re-greased all the joints and the wiper bolts. (My wiper bolts were secured with clamping rings. DE model. After removal, the bolt came out to the back very easily). Now everything works like new. Thanks, again ... I didn't need a new wiper motor, nor a new control stalk, nor a new ECU as some other "tipsters" suggested on forums.

You missed just before (1309 time stamp) an arc flash up by the motor. Very easy to miss if you were looking at the diag screen. Love you word for "column stork" every car should have a "stalker" in their car. Who's honest enough to say they totally missed it? 👍😎👍

That shape Clio is terrible for blocked up drainage, I've done a few now and its always been the motor gone. Its mounted so low that it gets submerged and eventually fails. This is the first time I've seen a seized linkage and i'm surprised as its mounted quite high up. I was convinced it would be the motor. Every day is a school day as the saying goes! Keep up the great videos, I've picked up so much helpful information from them. 👍

My wipers on my clio have failed again 6 months after having the wiper motor and linkage replaced which wasn't cheap, I'm pretty sure it's related to water damage and blocked drains no doubt. The wipers went slow and finally stopped but I'm not a mechanic so I didn't know what to do and even if I had done I only have access to very limited garage space where I rent. Thanks for video as I've learnt something at least

Great video as usual, I really felt for you when that bracket snapped .... Ps I've got one of those test lights I struggled with with the dim light until I chucked the 24 volt bulb away and put a 12 volt in, they're only interior lamp bulbs

An very interesting troubleshooting concernant this problem. I am going to take your finding to 😮try to solve thé same problem. Wiper motor was already replaced (water inside) and scavenge hoses were cleaned and cutted to increase diameters and IMPro et scavenge efficiency So motor should be OK and problem is go back I will look at this seizing condition of the passager arms Thanks for is useful informations Merci from France and may be se you soon

And that’s why I lubricate my linkage and spindles every couple of years, oh and clean the drains every spring. I remember a guy who’s blower used to wash the inside of his windscreen every now and then because he never cleaned the drains.

Renault has had this drainage issue since 90's. I've flooded couple of mine and now I was wondering my current (clio 2010) wipers seezed. The freaking drainage problem again. Those areas obviously have been flooded and rusted out the linkage. Can't tehy fix this issue, solution is so simple, just make drainages double or quadruble size. RENAULT!

This could be the so called pedestrian impact protection. Once a pedestrian hits the wiper axis with its head (while been run over) it will break at a certain force applied and so no or less injuries may occur. This is actual very common on lots of wiper systems (I work in the development of those parts). In those parts are special designed "weak points". And this is the reason why you never should use a hammer in this direction :)

Rain water block is big issue for BMW 5 series, it flows all the way from blower side to Interior of Co Driver side and solis a lost. Great video 👍👍

Thanks for the video. How did you set the wipers in the right position for wiping? Mine keep returning on a center spot, which is in the middle, but as far as I know I should play around/adjust a screw right on the metal holding the wiper motor. Any reference to minutes in the video where this is visible, is highly appreciated!

Check the lights stalk inside, mine had one of those thin red wires broke and BOTH lights and wipers didnt work.

Hi There - great video. I have had to replace my motor as it was seized because of built up water from blocked drainage pipes. My clio is also right hand drive with wipers in same direction as yours. How do i know what setting to place the linkage arms in? I’ve done something wrong as I can’t get both wipes working as they now collide then stop working. I can only get one wiper working and it stops in the opposite direction when off (i.e. stops in the up position rather than down). Please help

One question: do it exist a fuse for the front wipwers on thin Clio 3 ? Because in the car mantenance book, i found only information about the rear wiper's fuse. Thanks

I had an issue with my front wipers, there was a sloshing sound when I went round corners then the wipers stopped working. A garage said my front wiper motor was flooded after the drainage hole got blocked. They replaced the motor and that was about a year ago but now I hear that sloshing sound again.. Can I access the drainage hole or check if it's flooded again without going to a garage??

So what was actually the problem? That mechanism at the end of video? Sorry I watched in coffee shop without sound, they just stopped working on mine.

Hi, I have the same problem, it looks like the linkage started to seize on my wifes car (clio 3). I have freed the linkage, made sure the motor is in the park position but I still cant get the motor to work again. (The motor is fine). I have watched this video and the 1 you done on the megan but on both you dont say whether you have to clear the fault with your diagnostics machine. (Or should the car just clear its self?). What diagnostic tool are you using?

Those paravans are allways clogging up with Renaults. What i do is taking the rubber/plastic drains out and clip the end of it(duck mouth) of so it stays open and remount them.

Unexpected things happen clearly not your fault but sometimes try to explain to customers is difficult

Accidents happen . I drill a hole and lubricate them like that but only when the client refuses to buy a new assembly .

Hi I’m back, I have no ground Signal from the ecu control relay, when I give it a manual ground with a test light. The car starts and runs fine but when I remove it the car stop immediately. Any help will be appreciated

Seems to be a common fault. What happened to my customer was there was standing water in the area of the motor which badly corroded the inside of the wiper motor

Renault makes the most unreliable cars. I prefer a very old Mercedes than the latest Renault. They tend to have the cluster becoming Christmas tree.

A bit overkill 10 minutes to show that the wipers don’t work.
