I am kind a new with diesel cars, but I heard from friends that it is recommenced to drain your cars fuel filter at least once a year, especially after winter season.. but I for some reason I didnt do that.
So in mid of Summer my Renault Megane II 1.5 Dci suddenly threw at me a warning - Check fuel filter.
First reaction - I have to replace fuel filter ( I planned to do it while ago, even bought a new one, just didn't have time), but after second thoughts I figured out that this might be a lot easier fix, water condensate, that I didn't drain after winter. So after short thinking I said to myself that I will give a try and try to drain it, I had never done this before and I found it very easy to do, even easier than replacing a light bulb, so it should not be very hard thing to do!
So before you panic, try to drain the fuel filter and see if you can get rid of error by doing this! After I drained the mixed diesel with water, warning light turned off. Good when I dind have water sensor inj my filter, if you are not sure that you have water sensor in your filter, just inspect it, and if you dont have, dont forget to drain the filter at least once a year.

well, it is not like you will can drive for many years forgetting about any repairs, but overall I found it reliable. So far most major breakdown that happened to my car was clutch slave cylinder failure, but even with that I could slowly get to the home to fix it and car is over 10 years old, so not a big surprise for me. Overall parts arent that expensive, widely available, but what renault has made it for sure, that some fixes that should be easy one, ain't that, just because it is hard to access them, they have put everything very close and often you have to remove a lot of parts to get access. A big plus for me is that my car's body is galvanized and since I live in place where winter is WINTER (at least for 2 months a year) and city like to put A LOT of salt on roads, I can feel the good effects of this, since car havent started to rust, even in places where I have scratched the paint to metal. + I like that front wings are from plastic :) The biggest minus for diesel version is that Renault hasn't thought much about environment, I am saying this, because when I have to do annual MOT, I can barely do exhaust emission test, where smoke opacity coefficient is always around 3, what is actually maximum what you can have, what kind a makes me worry what ll happen when turbine will start to wear out.. Yeah, overall I dont have too many problems at the moment, just regular maintenance jobs, so far I am happy with it and as I said, parts arent that expensive!

Any idea how to bleed air from the fuel system?

I bleed it at same place, through that bleeding valve and by pressing the same hand pump. As I know, that for 1.5 dci, you have to work the fuel with the hand pump up as much as you can and rest of the air will be pushed out when you will try to start your car within couple of times ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s4dOH5t__jI.html
