Someone please tell Robert that he doesn't have to stay stranded in the miserable weather of Spain ;) there is the option of trains to return home, some are quite fast, some as fast as a bullet. And less pollutant than planes
One of things I love about how the EV market is how it is turning the manufacturer rankings on their heads. I much prefer this to the ID.3 for instance and who would have thought Kia would a luxury brand with the EV6. The early experience for Renault is really showing in the car, great review.
I agree, they are ticking the right boxes IMO. (a lot of) Actual buttons, a relatively light car for being an EV in it's size, very usable range, and they ditched the horrible Renault GUI with TomTom maps. Renault's 'no-nonsense' seems to be making a return..
I've had a French car peugeot 508 for the last 3 years, It has never le me down during the 3 years and it has been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned, And i have owned many of the cars over the last 25 years...
@@seybertooth9282 This! Or then drive crappy $1000 costing old shit. No wonder if its bad. I personally love Renault and I can say it is very underrated.
Would rather have this than the ID3. It seems worth the wait, even if it took Renault abit longer. It also has a fine crash test, unlike the now dated Zoe.
@@TheLordexilius The Zoe is still a safe car. Yes it is strange they removed the side curtains for crash but they did that on statistics from the data they have gathered. The Zoe is a very nice car to drive and to sit in, this will be even better!

@@sadiqmohamed681 you can but it’s 2 days of travelling even on a high speed train - Spanish HST is supposed to make the major cities all around 3 hours travel from Madrid…………. If the trains from France connect with the Spanish trains it works but often they don’t
I would much rather you didn't fly at all and made a point of it. You say it's the only way of doing things but that's the kind of thinking that has got us into this mess. A massive proportion of flying is done by a very small set of people. It might be normal to people within it but it's fanciful to the rest of us. Every one ticket sold on every flight is a vote to stick with the "climate change lifestyle status quo" and frankly whether you're apologising when you do it or not makes very little difference. We need to exercise two mental muscles to avoid the extinction of our species on this planet: creativity and obstinacy.
@@anemeth9281 The bigger question is why is a French company is doing the press junket for thier environmentally friendly vehicle in a remote region of Spain (almost as far South as you can get in Europe) in the first place. We've seen others where they did them on remote islands. Clearly someone is just trying to make it into a lavish vacation event instead of a just the facts car focused event.
as a writer, i can vouch that paper and pencil have it over touch screens in a few ways: i can draw an arrow or other indicator where i want, pointing where i want; i can write "over" and use the other side of the sheet when needed; i can cross out a word or phrase, replacing it with another, yet be able to see the original if i want. it's actually a more versatile, superior medium. and i love tech, especially writing programs, how easily they can be edited. but gimme an index card (folds, hard to lose) and a pencil, and watch out shakespeare!
@@vanrozay8871 As a creative I do have stacks of paper and pots with all kinds of pencils around me for execlt these reasons. Compact, good writing and drawing feel, you can move things around, work with layers, the different pencil styles really achieve the right result. Give it a shot. But yeah, nothing beats the simplicity and robustness of non electronic stuff.
I actually think this might be one of the most important EV's to come out for quite a while now. Not because it's particularly groundbreaking or amazing, but because this is a legacy automaker taking a legal model and now saying 'Right - this previous ICE model is now only available as an EV'. Not 'we're taking this legacy model and producing ICE, Hybrid or EV versions (Peugoet e-208, Vauxhall mokka-e)' or 'We've got specific ICE models brands, and then new EV models brands (VW and Nissan) but just 'Hey, that was last years Megane, this is this years now. It's a big statement on the transition over to EV's now.
My family has been driving Renault cars since the reunification of Germany xD as do many people in the former east, they’re the more affordable alternative to German cars and I have to say over the last 10 to 15 years Renault has made gigantic leaps in terms of build quality and interior. I‘ve ordered the Megane Etech in march before the order stop and it’s supposed to be delivered in August. I can’t wait to drive it!
Nice scenery, nice music, nice editing and filming and, as as a proud Zoe owner, great to see that Renault are getting back on track again (finally!). Can't wait to see the first review of the upcoming Renault 5 EV - it looks mint.
Someone please tell Mr. Llewellyn that he is a much under-used talent. I didn't know about the "FULLY CHARGED SHOW" before this, but as soon as I heard that voice,.. It had 100% of my attention. Someone please get Robert more work.
As far as the flying is concerned, I appreciate your honesty and concern about it. This is the discussion we should be having with ourselves re travel from here on in. Thoroughly enjoy the output of this channel and I would encourage others to make a modest contribution to the cause. One very satisfied customer here.
When choosing between flying and driving, don't forget that France and Spain have pretty good high speed electric trains, combined with Eurostar who have most services running again now. And travelling that way, not only environmentally friendly, but you can use the time for planning your shoot and doing other work, much better than you can when driving or flying.

Had a Megan for a week as a hire car. It was a 2litre sporty diesel with a heavy clutch. The EV solves my only negative thoughts about a Megan. Never thought a Renault would be more attractive than the equivalent VW. Thanks Bobby for opening my mind to new possibilities.
Considering the big hood to makes this car even smaler compared to id3 which is packaged better, only upside of the megane its taller so for tall people this car might be better.
I almost never add a comment to the many videos I watch on this platform but for this one I’ll make an exception. Apart from the car (which I think will be a serious hit for Renault) I want to say how much I enjoyed the real life presentation. You made me laugh out loud once or twice. Knowledgable without data dumping is appreciated. Zero technobabble - love that. The audio snip at the end was funny, typical of the overall tone and felt genuine at least to me. Well done 👍. Hi Fully Charged, have you ever been to the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam. It is, as far as I know, completely off the grid, by using solar panels on the roofs and old Zoe and Leaf battery packs to store the surplus on solar generated electric power. Very interesting!
Yes, I agree with you 100%. I love his perspective and anecdotes and he makes me laugh! He is my favorite EV reviewer!!!! Please let him do more reviews. "Simply Brilliant!".
Exactly. This is the first review I've watched on here in ages. And enjoyed it. Maybe the tool is one of the reasons they are struggling to get to a million subs..
Your car presentations are among the most entertaining to watch, besides getting all the informations needed. I could watch these videos for hours... 👏🏻
Remember watching Robert testing the first 22kw Zoe Our first electric car was a Zoe. But still no FROUNK not keen on high torque on FWD. Love our BMW 42kw i3S
Beautiful presentation with music and scenery and well presented by Micheal sounds like a great car and such a pleasure to listen and watch this beautiful car in this setting
It's very much comparable to the ID3, but the quality of the materials in the cabin and the infotainment system look far better. I think I would go for this in preference to the ID3.
100% agree - I found the infotainment system on the ID4 almost unusable - I rented one for a roadtrip, it was raining and my wife needed to be on standby to go through the 4 menu screens to get between the navigation and the screen de-mister... also the 'rubby' (haptic) buttons had no feel and made it impossible to adjust volume with any control... the on-the-road aspects of driving the car and the build quality were great though, but I will never bother driving a VW again until they sort this out (what were they thinking!?).
@@shonunezekiel There's a button specifically for the de-mister on the same bank as the lights? Alternatively, a 'Clima' button below the screen. All really easy to use if not over-thought.
@@wheeldesire haha - you are being too generous, probably I was under-thinking it rather than over-thinking it ;-) ... I might have missed the climate controls as the bank of lights didn't look like buttons? whatever it was, it was not obvious to a doofus like me - and I have climbed into several other cars and been able to use them immediately.... I tried using voice commands and it was just frustrating - whereas voice commands in tesla felt like talking like a human, rather than trying to recite an incantation. I guess if I was a VW owner rather than renter, I would have figured it out over time, although I am not sure I would have ended up loving the interface.
@@shonunezekiel You should see what Tesla did to its system with the Christmas update. Essential controls that were once one touch on the screen are noe buried in menus. Absolute garbage.
Renault have been nailing the design of their cars for a number of years now and this is a cracker. Sat in some electric Audis at the weekend and, frankly, was very disappointed. This could be the first electric car I buy....
Oh I think the new Megane EV is going to be an absolute game changer for Renault, and EV adoption. Looks great, the spec is great, definitely a contender if I ever change my Kona EV
Looks and sounds promising , thank you! My biggest concern is that folks in the cold countries will definitely have some interesting frozen moments with the boot, as there’s no way to pull it open WHEN it get’s frozen.
There is something very cool about Roberts presentation style. Stuff like ''I don't know how big the boot is with the seats down. It's going to be 1000 litres or so. You can fit a washing machine in it'' and ''I like it!'.
Will it be at the Farnborough Fully Charged Show? I can see the influence of the Nissan Ariya in the shape of this new Meganne, looks very modern and from what you have said, looks promising as a new super seller for Renault. A company that has started to listen to its customers and their busy lives with the Zoe's journeys along the autoroutes and highways of europe and the UK.
Excellent question! I just recently learned about that show and fully intend to be there, having been to the same facility for the British Motor Show. I do hope this model will be at Farnborough Fully Charged.
Really enjoyed that review. Its good to see that French manufactorers are bringing out cars to compete with other world manufactorers. Also, loved the music used throughout the film 🙂
Looks great ! And if the heat pump is standard across the range then Renault need a special mention. It’s baffling how many expensive EV’s have heatpumps as a optional extra. The ioniq 5’s was only available on the top trim as a option !!
Your comment on the quietness of the car, when driving particularly in the countryside, how would anything walking on the road know of your coming, this is true of all EV’s.
Only a few days from asking and you've published the video. Nice to see Robert back. As far as flying I'm not worried as FC is far better at that then any of the rest. Didn't mention it can tow up to 900kg. I just hope it gets downunder as its now on my shortlist for next EV and has a 5 star safety rating from EuroNCAP.
@@rugbygirlsdadg The same as any car on the roads today then, ICE or EV. Doesn't matter as I am a beekeeper and don't haul live bees in the back of my car why it needs to tow never mind the odd bits of furniture or gardening supplies/etc.
I agree......plus more complexity, more assembly time, all at additional cost to the end user. If a power boot doesn't have a foot sensor it is of no more benefit than pressing a button, It doesn't make any sense. Once having pressed the button you have to stand around, usually in the rain holding heavy shopping bags whilst waiting for it to tediously motor open. I can open the boot, put in my shopping, close it again, get into the car out of the rain quicker than a boot powering open. I have a power boot, if there was an option to not have one and save on the cost, I would tick that box.
@@David-bl1bt Disagree on that. Not even a sort of handle but only a push button ! You’ll get dirty hands when operating that thing ! Powered opening by foot sensor makes life easier, when carrying stuff, and you stay clean. It’s a must have option, regardless of the costs, you should have the option ;)
Love this car! I’m driving Zoe ZE50, thinking of upgrading to Tesla 3. Before I do so, I’m definitely going to test drive this one. I was able to check the interior of the car and I immediately loved it. I’d be so arrogant to state my prediction that this will be EV #3 in the EU right after Tesla 3/Y. I’m just afraid that with supply chain issues & ongoing war, they will not be able to ramp the production. Big shout out for Android Automotive running on super fast Snapdragon, low weight and reasonable price.
I like that the thought for this has been to make it lighter to improve the efficiency and the range. Also, amazing how they are getting a flatter charge curve and I look forward to seeing that in a test!
Poor old Jack, he probably had a great script waxing lyrically about the design cues, over all efficency, the technology, size of cupholders, usb ports etc etc. Robert.. door handles are a bit odd, I like th ecolour and it is very nice. Brilliant.. Thanks.

I’ve been waiting for a review of this from you guys as it’s been on my shortlist since I heard they were making it, this and the new 5 of course. Ooo, (la la?!) I do like this EV Megane. Beautiful design, decidedly French tech' look, and great that it weighs less than some BEV cars, good for range and wear & tear. The general EV market competition is really taking off now, years ahead of the 2035 'deadline', and now lots of Tesla alternatives. Tres bien Renault!
Renault has once again put a very, very good EV on the road - I will certainly take a closer look at it at the dealer - for me the size of the car is right, the battery capacity - okay, the 60 kWh should be it! First impression - great EV, great Renault!

The fact that they are both more practical for a long journey than this and so many other EVs illustrates my point; the EV and the networks need to improve - A LOT. 300-400 km range is simply not enough, even in my small country. The charging network in the UK is a chaotic mess; there are numerous descriptions of how much stress this can and does cause here on RU-vid, often posted by fans of EVs. With queuing and charging, you would potentially spend hours in the UK to recharge a vehicle on a trip; if that suits you, good luck. And as for the appalling mess I see elsewhere when travelling overseas e.g. in places like French Autoroutes; I don’t even like to think of it.

I agree with carmakers using a mainstream OS. Everyone making their own is just stupid. Google seems to be strong, not sure if there is a second choice yet.
A good looking family car. Would be super interested in a bit of a family car showdown between this, the e-nero, MG5 and MG ZS. The MGs still seem to be winning in the £/mile range based on the list prices though. It's a big jump from the high end of the MG range to the low end of the Megane's expected pricing at £35k for the smaller battery version!
problem is always the same, a well specced top trim will end up costing almost as much as a M3SR+. Like for most of these EVs, they are priced 5-10k too high.
@@briankavanagh7191 it's all relative. I am not a tesla fan, but the M3SR+ is undoubtedly the best value for money on the EV market. It drives better, with better performance, faster charging, more efficient, much more spacious, better tech, etc. In old money, the Renault is a top spec Megane priced as a BMW 3 series.
I love the styling and apparent efficiency of the car.. what the Leaf should have been. The new one is so small and cramped. And the Ariya is looking to be WAYY too expensive
Agree, this is not a family car IMO, more of a 2 person household car ..maybe they should have just bit the bullet and made the e-tech a 2 door coupe :)

@@williamarmstrong7199 I think all cars are expensive these days, but a new Golf is £24.5K, an ID.3 is £33K, so I'm going to have to do some serious miles to get my money back in 2 years. I know servicing is less and resale value will be better, but there's still £8.5K difference there.
@@sargfowler9603 At the same time, the ID.3 is 33k, so this megane with the big battery for 35k is broadly equivalent - and I'd argue the infotainment (or rather, the lack of VW / ID.3 crapola) is worth the extra 2k :D
@@sargfowler9603 So, with the much less service needed and the lower depreciation, a little number crunching might make that £8.5k difference almost negligible. Cheers.
I think the real saving is resale value, because I don’t see EVs depreciate that much if at all. You can’t get a two year old Tesla model 3 for less than £40k. They weren’t much more new!
Interesting to learn that Renault sold over 400k Zoe models over 10 years! I considered the Zoe to have been a very successful model.... Yet Tesla have sold over 500k Model Y in just two years.
@@4literv6 It probably will..... My point was a comparison of something from a Legacy Auto being so outsold by a new company..... Proving what can be sold IF the general public can get it + it is value for money.
That’s a nice look car, very impressed, liked the interior and exterior, a big step up from the Zoe. But even better was that they allowed Robert to do a review, he’s the man who invented the Fully Charged show, who invented RU-vid channels about EV’s, who practically invented electricity…ok that last one was a bit far fetched, but it’s great to see how far this show has come, from-twee little cartoon animation intro’s to hosting events around the world. Marvellous!
With it being a Renault, my first question is does it have a full set of airbags and will they quietly remove any at some point, as they did with the Zoe?
It's certainly good that this new Megane is 5 star Euro NCAP but then so was the Zoe until the changes they made last year, when it plummeted to zero stars. Beware!
@@edipires15 It lost a lot of those stars because they removed the side airbags and did their best not to tell anyone about it. It didn't need to drop to zero, that was Renault putting money before their customer's lives.
A very fine car, but the problem is that the decent specs are priced very close to Teslas, and then they don’t look quite such a good package. This is a shame because it looks like a very good car. I really hope it’s a successful for Renault, because we consumers need competition in the EV market.
Funny because i can see a Smart on your pic and you don't even think that a lot of people prefer to drive everyday a 4.30 m car than a 4.70 m in our small european roads and carparks?
