Total failure on my part on this video. I used the instant power consumption of the car and used it as it was over 100km. Which is wrong. I apologize!!! Here are the real consumption Numbers: 60 km/h 3 KW 5,0 KWh/100km 70 km/h 8 KW 11,4 KWh/100km 80 km/h 10 KW 12,5 KWh/100km 90 km/h 12 KW 13,3 KWh/100km 100 km/h 16 KW 16,0 KWh/100km 110 km/h 20 KW 18,2 KWh/100km 120 km/h 24 KW 20,0 KWh/100km 130 km/h 31 KW 23,8 KWh/100km 140 km/h 36 KW 25,7 KWh/100km Best speed therefore is... still 90km/h

Well... it means that driving 22 kWh zoe at 60 kmh I can drive 440 km on one charge?

Just the video I was looking for! I need to do a 385 km drive soon in my ZE40 and wondered what the optimal speed would be including charging. I was playing with the speed settings in A Better Route Planner and came to the same conclusion: 90 km/h is the optimum. As someone else pointed out, perfect for sitting behind a truck in the slipstream. Shame the Zoe doesn't have adaptive cruise control to safely keep the distance behind the truck. Thanks for taking the time to make this (nerdy) video!

Very interesting. Sometimes its more important to get there quickly, but when it isn’t, about 50mph sounds good.

Hi! I like your way of thinking, it's similar to mine! Next year I will decide what electric car to buy.

Maybe nerdy, but very informative! So it proves that speeding never pays off.....which we knew already of course....Driving 90 means also staying benind lorries which helps with the slipstream to bring comsumption even lower, but can become very annoying, (and suffocating?) certainly during 400 km but that was also pure hypothetical of course.

sinjoor60 Thank you for your comment. Very true! But that is no way of driving long distance. it all comes down to charging speed and consumption. Watch my tesla model S video. It has a different long distance speed ;)

Hi Chris, Instructive video. I finally bought a ZOE ZE40 (the Kona was a bit too expensive for me too :-) ). I should get it next week! I was wondering what was the perfect speed to travel a long distance with it, and you've answered it just perfectly. Thank you. Just one question, if I remember, the temperature was around 0 when you did the tests, wasn't it? Michel

Hi, Yes, it was February. Winter tires and cold. But when I made the consumption test, heating was off. Still cold temps and winter tires add to the consumption. But over all I atill think the consumption difference between the different travelling speeds are the same. So even in summer 90 kmh is the best. You will have to charge less though.

you could drive up to 600 km while driving under 75 kmh on single charge .

I have the first Zoe and it only has a 22 kwh battery but can charge 42kw AC. It takes 12h to go 600km and I did this trip 4 times this year :D

my car here was a 22kW charging one.

I'm on it. I'm replicating it. It seems like the initial ride to the first charger startin with 100% soc should not be factored in and you should factor in that arriving with 20% SOC could be without concern if charging at the final destination is possible.
@joe55514
@joe55514 2 года назад
What you are interested in is the time it takes from the first to the last charger on the road.

For my charging rate it seems like 90-120 km'h total charging time levels out because higher speed and therefore consumption is compensated by faster charging rate.

Stop!The data is not true!Renault Zoe is 41kW available!No 36kW!!

Kornél Kocsis Please listen to what I say before you comment. The Zoe has a 41 KWh, but when you drive, you are draining the battery completely. That is why I say in the video: I am driving until 10% Battery Capacity is left and I charge at 80% Thanks for listening and watching.
