I did a winter range test cruising at 90 km/h, 56 mph to see how far I could get. The estimated result is about 200 km/125 mi.

I am very satisfied with my Renault Zoe Q90 ZE40 Q90 means, it has the 43 kW rapid charging engine build in. And this makes a huge difference, when charging with 43 kW instead of 22 kW. Along "Autobahn" or shopping malls are a lot of 43 kW AC chargers in Germany.

Thanks for increasing the test speed! A 90km/h test is much more useful to me than a 80km/h test.

In my opinion, Zoe ist a ideal car, for using in suburban surroundings. e.g. as a second car for heading up to work or for shopping tours, for bringing kids to school or sports and something like this. You can carry five persons (or two adults and three children) in a comfortable way for distances about 80 - 100 km. Even the trunk ist big enough for most of tasks you make. We have the Zoe 4.0. and it's a very reliable and nice little car. The consumption of about 17-19 kWh/100km in winter is very normal. A smaller car is much more vulnerable to weak driving conditions as a bigger one.

I've a ZE40 Q90 and I get similar results on my journey between Glasgow and Manchester in the UK. Biggest hit is the steep hills and the strong headwinds, usually 20mph plus, with temperatures around 0 degrees Celsius. The wind is the worst for the Zoe from my experience. I used nearly 20kwh to do 80 miles non-stop heading south but only 17kwh heading back north on the same road the next day. Same speed and conditions. You can tell the wind direction hadn't changed between those days.

Another great review thanks - just to say that the ZOE does not 'need' 400volts to charge. You can charge at home from 220-240volts and fully charge in 4-6 hours. It also has 400v AC capability which means it can take advantage of fast AC chargers as well.
@bjornnyland
@bjornnyland 6 лет назад
You need a transformer up to 400 V then.
@kevinorman3826
@kevinorman3826 6 лет назад
No the chameleon charger built in to the ZOE can take 220V AC charge - this is what I have at home. We don't have 400v in homes in the UK only 220-240. You can charge with a 240v 7kw charger or even a granny plug-in lead into a standard socket.

Hi Bjorn thanks I love the Zoe it’s compact and I like the digital speedometer it’s very cool , but for me its enough I guess Renault needs to put a 60klw Zoe to be even more friendly user

Thank you Bjørn! The ZOE is a nice little car, but not too efficient for a car of that size, and then there's the lack of DC...
@wsq90pe7
@wsq90pe7 6 лет назад
poor Golf DC is not much better than 43 kW AC (not often in Norway) and technically a small spacious car can not be as efficient as a big (long) car like TESLA
@TheRealChristoffer

The zoe in norway can max charge at 22 kwh
@phonehoppy
@phonehoppy 6 лет назад
Well, Hyundai Ioniq, BMW i3, and eGolf are also "small and spacious" just like ZOE, yet they are much more efficient. The current version of the IONIQ, despite having about 25% less battery capacity, has about the same range as the Z.E. 40, especially at highway and motorway speeds.
@siggiAg86

Those are great numbers, I have a 2017 Zoe 40kw which i bought used recently and the numbers i get when i charge to 80% are only 97 km (in Icelandic winter). Shouldn’t be too dissimilar from Norway cold though but still I don’t really get it why the range is so low.
@CAESARbonds
@CAESARbonds 6 лет назад
If the Zoe takes very long for the last 1-2% and the SOH (state of health) is very low 70-80% it is due to a bad BMS. It can be fixed with an upgrade which is a pain in the but. because it takes hours and the Renault dealers don't know about it or don't want to install it. They hate EVs. Renault never made the update mandatory, and most drivers think it is a rapidly aging battery. Maby Renault wants to push EV-Drivers to buy a diesel again (Renault Talisman 500mg NOx per KM. ???) But the battery is fine, there are reports that owners that INSITED on the update, and got it after days of debating, gained easily 50 km of range.
@Muskar2
@Muskar2 6 лет назад
There's several guides online on how to manually install it. You need to then make an R-link account and download their software to your computer. Then properly disconnect the SD-card from the car, and insert it into the computer, then install the update on the SD-card via their software. When you put it back in the car, it will update the car. It's not super simple, but it works.

You are right with the leaf 30 in winter temperature round 90 km driving at 100 km driving speed at highway it needs to charge! The car is screaming to charge and at the chademo Fastned charger I can only 17 KWh at 85% really frustrating

Good morning from Greece! I am an owner of a SMART for2 electric 2017 . I would like to buy a bigger electric car. I am between SMART FOR4 & RENAULT ZOE SAME YEAR (2017 - 2018). Which on you recomended? Smart is more beautiful but it has small baterry. Renault has bigger battery , more space but is ugly. And i dont know about Renault electric cars about guaranty - problems - value. Which one do you recomend to buy? Should i buy an used ZOE? Thanks !!!

@MylanPS3
@MylanPS3 4 года назад

I more like the Peugeot ION than ZOE. It's a first gen EV but it's made in Japan, light car, ultra low energy consumption, DC fast charge, ultra cheap as second hand. No need to say that RWD car is more fun to drive, especially in winter. :D

My Zoe won't charge in one go. It will charge for a couple of hours then stops charging. If this happens to you, reject the car straight away. Don't let it go past 30 days after delivery. It is a defective car and Renault have done nothing but try to delay delay delay. I do not want anyone to have to deal with the daily problem that I have encountered and the obstruction of Renault UK's escalations team. My car has to have a short charge, a pause, then being switched back on to charge.
@rccrrd

I'm overall happy with my Zoe but the slow charging speed is extremely annoying going on trips longer than 250-350km. Anyone know the reason the Zoe doesn't have faster charging? The cost?

Is there any difference between AC fast charging and DC fast charging? With even kW numbers i mean. I know the difference between AC and DC, but are there differences in charge time or battery life? Or BMS lifetime??
@tobimai4843

If this car would have DC fast charging, it would be REALLY nice, but without it's practically useless if it's your only car.
@simbukka

I wouldn't say Zoe is useless. I drive annually 25 000 to 30 000 kilometers with Zoe, and I charge mainly at home and at shopping centers. No need to touch to public paid chargers usually.

@AndrewGoodladIchorus 6 лет назад
The battery is more resistant in the cold so you won't get the full 41kWh out of the battery.
@salmanzh
@salmanzh 6 лет назад
Andrew Goodlad I agree, but shouldn't the usage and percentage correlate?
@bjornnyland
@bjornnyland 6 лет назад
The 41 kWh is gross capacity and 37 kWh is net capacity. The remaining 4 kWh is bricking protection to prevent the battery from taking damage if discharged to 0 %.
@AndrewGoodladIchorus
@AndrewGoodladIchorus 6 лет назад
Bjørn Nyland i believe it’s actually 41kWh available. And about 44/45 for bricking prevention. I have a long video on my page that shows 40.9kWh of usable range using CanZE OBDII app. Renault quote usable battery and did for old Zoe too. 22kWh usable but had 25-26kWh battery pack. Renault, in contrast to Nissan (and Tesla I think), states the nett / usable capacity already instead of gross. cleantechnica.com/2016/10/11/details-renault-zoe-ze-40-battery-packs/

Neither doors nor roof is insulated original by RENAULT. Fully insulated I need between 0.5 to 1 kWh while driving 150 km (1 1/2 h) at -4 to 0°C outside @21 degrees C inside - no sun! - and now it feels cozy warm inside - cold or too much energy for heating is not longer an issue.
