Renault Zoe ZE50 Just Lost A MAJOR Feature

The Renault Zoe ZE50 got released over 12 months now and Renault made some changes to it about 6 months ago removing and changing features some relating to semiconductor shortage and others just cutting costs. This time is the removal of another feature due to the semiconductor shortage in the car industry. The Renault Zoe ZE50 GT Line will no longer include the AEBS sensor in fact Renault has removed the GT line from sale and replaced it with a very similar named model... The Zoe GT Edition is the same car but with no AEBS I find this a confusing name change and I ask Renault to rename it as soon as possible to stop possible issues. This also means the Zoe Iconic model will no longer be able to add the safety pack both changes to both models results in £100 being removed from the GT edition RRP and £100 from the safety pack that's now been renamed to something that doesn't have any safety features it's not a parking pack.

That is totally ridiculous. I think I have "peak Zoe" - a GT50 GT Line with AEB and wireless charging. I will not buy a vehicle without AEB, and the wireless charging gets used. I would expect AEB will become mandated fairly soon. I feel very fortunate to have picked up my Zoe in the period before they started fiddling about with the specifications.

None of you got the gist of my suggestion which is to offer people low spec cheaper cars. I too have a 135GT with all whistles. I know lots of car owners who don't want & will never use the items above.

I think that potential buyers should reconsider whether they really want to place an order for a Renault Zoe. A family member was planning to buy the Zoe. Then I showed her this video! She has now chosen for the VW ID3...

We bought a 2018 Zoe and were sold on how we can pre-heat or pre-cool the car from our phone before a journey, like most electric cars do. Then, well after we’d bought it, Renault removed the option from their app and we can no longer do anything like this. We feel completely ripped off and won’t buy from Renault again. 😡

@@NicolasRaimo Seriously?! This would be amazing! 😯 I’ll def give em a call and see what they say. We did speak to our Renault dealer ages ago when it first happened… At first they said to use the webpage version instead of the app but then when this stopped working too they just shrugged their shoulders and said we’d have to pre-set the temps in the car and use the key fob to start it. If we’re going close enough to use the key fob, we might as well just get in the car and do it there. 🙄 Thanks for your advice and I’ll see what the ZE team say. 🤞😁

I have a Zoe ZE50 2019, it's impossible to activate air-conditioning while charging. Really irritating, in my old ZE40 this could be done. In a electric car this is a important feature... Besides that, I love my ZOE...

That’s a dumb move. The addition is a selling feature, whereas the subtraction could be a deciding factor about which car the buyer chooses. Plus the insurance will probably rise.

It will be interesting to see if Renault decide to sell it with NO ncap rating or have it tested it could go as low as 3 star as the AEBS adds lots of points

Automatic Emergency Braking can also be really dangerous. Its happened twice to me driving on a Motorway and the Car slammed to a Stop and luckily there was no traffic behind me. I contacted dealer and they said it could be dirt on the Sensor ! Anyway it has happened on two occasions on the Motorway that i brought it to the Dealer , but they said they couldnt find an issue. Maybe they just removed the Sensor .

Same thing happened to me on a one day old Nissan Qashqai, faulty front radar..very unsettling experience..Returned car back to dealer ..lost faith in the model after that. Having no AEB is a plus in my book at least until the technology becomes more reliable.

My March 2019 ZE 50 GT Line came with free tail gate problems and no AEB. The first ones off the boat just weren't fitted with AEM despite it being the top of the range and expensive. No chip shortages at this pre-Covid time. Renault is a crap company re customer care but got its foot in the EV door early, so with a half-decent range Zoes sold. Thank God there's now more competition. Merde!

Have you had boot issue fixed? it was a problem with them changing the weld settings on the boot there is a fix but requires the car boot being painted. The zoe when first released didn't include the sensor and also other changes to original spec, Renault did announce this prior to customers delivery

That's funny, I have been saying recently that there is too much computer stuff on EVs that most of the owners will never use. I think we should have cars without infotainment screens (too many distractions) let's get the costs down and don't have things that we don't use. With Regen do we really need ABS brakes? Electric cars should be really cheap to make apart from the batteries.

Regenerative braking can only do so much, It will most likely not be able to stop your car fast enough with todays technology. Even if they were able to today, the wear that would put on the battery/motors would probably be too great.

Renault are saying we don't care about your safety if you drive EV. Insurance could be higher and will they cut ABS breaking.

Thx for the heads up on this one. I ordered a Zoe on the 27th of Oct checked my order form and it says 100kW GT Line R135 50kWh Rapid Charge on the order form. Do you think this will affect the insurance group of the newer Zoe's?

Hi, just a warning for anyone else with a Zoe on order. I just got the pre-reg document from the dealer and it says GT Edition! Contacted the to check as my order form says GT Line and Renault have indeed supplied a GT Edition! So to say the least not best pleased. Luckily I caught it before they registered the car so now need to make my mind up on what to do.

My July 2020 ZE50 GT Line doesn’t have the automatic emergency braking system.

Nissan cutting too. Took delivery of my second new LEAF Tekna this week. Roof handle missing above driver’s door, rear door 'e' badges missing parking sensor switch missing, e+ badge missing from boot, e+ blue charger flap now plain black. The badge omissions are not serious but the door handle is a personal, serious omission. Now I wonder what other cuts have been made or deleted.

We have the legacy Zoes and if there is a missing feature Renault are very good at when you want to barter prices down. They will be movable on price. The silicon shortage has affect everything so I understand. The wireless charger will have different components or they have a large supply and the abs sensor may not have been so popular

The aebs sensor is standard on GT line and is part of the car being 5 star NCAP it’s not about being popular is a safety feature. Ps France zoe page says it still being fitted Also abs different times aebs

Hi Nick. Can I just point out that a lot of semiconductors aren’t made out of silicon anymore. There are more semiconductors made out of other materials than silicon, like gallium arsenide used for LEDs

@@NicolasRaimo it’s the industry I work in. I grow the layers on the semiconductors. Even in the telecommunications area I work in it’s been hard as so many issues have caused slow down right from the initial crystal growth

You’ll find the first deliveries into the UK did not have the AEBS system installed anyway, so in my opinion it’s not a deal breaker. Regarding the charging pad, I’d definitely miss it if it wasn’t there. Don’t use CarPlay etc and never had the need, who wants to mess about with cables when you can just put your phone on a pad to charge!

A late 2021 GT Line will have AEBS but in your sat nav screen there be an option for early alert for braking cars you can change the alert settings

I'll be honest with you: i never had the feeling, that the AEB sensor really properly worked. 🤷🏻‍♂️ My car should be equipped with one, and besides a few akward warning moments with the huge red pop up information in the dashboard...i never had the feeling that it actually does anything. I just had a situation yesterday, where i thought the system at least should have given me a potential collision warning....but....No...Nothing! 😏 I don't want to say, that in a real emergency or paying less attention moment, that the system possibly doesn't do anything and that the parameter for the AEB Sensor and the descision of the system, if it has to intervene to avoid a collision are very variable from one situation to another, but i had a couple of cars now, if it was a car for a test drive or i have been able to drive a car of a friend, that were equipped with an AEB System, and these got in action MUCH sooner and quicker. I don't know, but i'm a little suspicious regarding the function of the AEB Sensor. 🤔

The early warnings just warnings the sensor applying the brakes are right before there’s no chance you could stop it your self last thing you want the aebs sensor to do is give you false positive

Any idea as to why it is impossible to run the AC while charging? Is it just a software limitation on purpose? Or a technical shortcoming?

the battery and cabin use same AC circuit... the battery wins on cooling/heating so you always loose. If your charging on low kw rates it may be possible to preheat VIA the app thou ;)

@@NicolasRaimo Thx for your reply, I still remain a bit puzzled as to why it is possible to override this by preheating while charging. Either on demand or via schedule... It seems they just don't want you in the car while charging and heating/cooling....

Well, I had Renault in the past. Was also lied to by mixing words. I never got another Renault product and will never buy anything from them again. Apart from that, legacy manufacturers are not competitive at all. I am waiting for Chinese manufacturers to come here in the full force and wipe the floor with all legacy ICE makers...

Legacy automakers do go to price wars with each other however they never change displayed RRP they are always fighting a changing number and as such prices and deals change on market. Currently sales are booming so why discount when you can't build orders you have?
