Blanks They wanted to be a teacher because they wanted to try and help people. Unfortunately, you soon find out how BS it is due to having to stick to extremely strict guidelines that Pearson and similar provide. Plus teachers don't get paid well at all. Heck, a lot even buy supplies for their classes in order to make it more enjoyable for students. Just because they chose that job doesn't mean they should be indirectly punished for it. Heck, they should get all the help they can get because they really need it.

Glad to see that someone understood what he's trying to say with that message. There are way too many people who don't understand the message. They hear the words "Don't Stay in School" and don't even listen to the rest of the sentence. As Raven mentioned, it's talking about the Subjects and not the Students. Hannah Matthau +Hannah Matthau I didn't say that you would magically have a job. Most businessmen don't want people that haven't even finished highschool to work in their general area. Unless you want to work at McDonald's. Have fun with that. As I want to become a video game designer, I need to be unique, going to school isn't going to make me bland, it's going to teach me how to program, things needed to get into that job. Being a qualified person gets you pretty much everywhere in life. if you would be so kind and give out your occupation, that would be great.

A way I always think of it, is in the educational system, they write something on a piece of paper, wrap it around a brick, and throw it at you, and if you don't catch it, they let it hit your face, and before they can teach you the technique, they are already wrapping the next brick.

If you try to force a subject on a child it will most likely destroy that child's interest in that subject if any because you are forcing them to learn it. It would most likely become desensitizing. Everyone has their own talents and based on what those talents are you should be able to learn along that path. It should be more choice than force.

I'm literally 4 years late, but this point is very true. I have a friend who is an amazing artist, and she genuinely enjoyed drawing. Keyword: ENJOYED Our school was so overboard with activities, making us do hand-drawn bulletin boards and a dozen poster makings EVERY month, add to that handmade props for rushed dance/acting/choir performances that honestly just drained us all further. And with that, most of the heading and responsibility for the art stuff was pushed to her- which all made her break down. Now, she openly expresses to me how she's lost all interest in art, only doing it when the school forces her too.

My old high school said it this way: "Every student college and career ready". They aren't preparing us for life, they are preparing us to do *certain* jobs and to conform to their levels of intelligence and pass their test and quizzes. :/ Not that I didn't like school, I enjoyed a lot of my classes, but everything I learned there didn't help me once I graduated. I don't know about getting a job, house, credit card, anything like that. Everything I'm figuring out now I'm learning from my parents. Nothing's wrong with that, but school could have started it a bit. You should watch Don't Stay In School: Hate Comments videos which is Boy in a Band's follow-up video. He explains a bit more.

its really funny. i forgot many many things from school. basic algebra for instance. i have not had to do this kind of math for like 6 years. now im going into a career where i will have to do it every day. so i have to re-learn it from scratch. its also hilarious that math was my best subject when i was in school. it was the only subject where i constantly got an A. now im 23, i took a practice test online for a test ill have to take at my new job... i shit you not i could not get past the first question. was something like -3/8X ≤ 17. Its a simple inequality thats presented in 9th grade math. now what took me weeks to learn in school. i re-learned my self in less than 30 minutes online.

I think the whole grading system is just stupid, it basically just lists who in the school cares about the forced subjects in their classes.
@evanurena8868
@evanurena8868 5 лет назад
The grading system is primarily based on the ego of achievement rather then the learning of mastery or improvement. It's also the kind of bribery that ultimately ends up being inefficient in the long run because it assumes effort or intelligence is relative to an assigned category, which isn't always an easily quantifiable entity in the real world or in the human mind. Honestly, if the school system is so bent on having a bribery for achievement, they should at least replace a grading system with a monetary or financial one. After all, the end goal that schools often preach about is mostly based on financial reasons and consequences regarding lucrative careers rather then simply encompassing the embodiment of learning. The learning of the school system is grounded on the preface of traditional theory yet the mantra ultimately speaks of pragmatic incentives about life. That doesn't make sense at all and is rather contradictory in nature.

I had a math tutorial teacher and I wanted to do an AP World History class and he asks, "You do know that is harder than a normal class, right?" I told him I did know that and I wanted to do it. See normal history makes me bored because it is too easy, I like challenges so AP World History would be the way for me. He wouldn't let me do the AP World History course and I got mad and did what he said. Tutorial btw is a gentle way of special eds teacher. "Institutions of 'not' learning". WOW! Even before getting into the video - Already a BAR! That is a BAR!
@TheDanCazzoProject
@TheDanCazzoProject 3 года назад
And yes, it was Mark Twain who said that... His point was about the fact that school isn't a place of education. And that is a 'fact'. And people look at those who don't have the same scores in time stress situations as being on a different level than they were. I love Einstein's quote as well. But here's the other thing. The Disney company is the company that's always trying to be inclusive and representative of all people; and that's not only a current thing that will probably continue. Here's what's interesting though! Walt Disney was told at school by more than one teach that he'd never succeed; that he wasn't 'creative' and he won't make a difference at all... Any one reading this can look it up! That is a documented 'fact'... and one that a lot of speakers; from all different religious or 'non-religious' biases even mind you; have used in their speeches about why we know things need to change in the education system. (Yeah! Teachers really do have intelligence, and logic, and 'intuition' and so their psychic - haha cough bull crap cough - powers can be 'trusted' (trusted with *sarcastic tone*). Because; now the world would be very different if he'd been stupid enough to follow in their stupidity. Goats - so those who don't follow sheep - are so sturdy and stable after all the junk they've consumed... Those who 'don't' follow sheep are the ones who survive. -> Think about how far we've come with accepting people of other races and colors and cultures 'because' of where Disney has evolved to and taken us. You need the seed to grow to have a crop so to speak. If Disney had taken this on board and never pursued his dreams/empire - which people saying is taking over the world but it really isn't because in-school babysitters and their higher ups would be intelligent individuals themselves if that were the case which they aren't - the world would be a far worse, far less progressive, far more racist place today. I wanted to say this to give proof for my first of 2 points. Students taking what their teachers say 'seriously' (which they shouldn't) and letting it dictate their lives actually 'PERPETUATES' these horrible things like RACISM! That's number 1... Number 2; which is linked to number 1; is there are colored young girls out there - and their genuinely 'loving' fathers for these particular girls - who can finally buy; because there's a reason for marketing them - Disney's movies are continually successful; their own princesses at home dolls of princesses that actually LOOK like them! (Anika Noni Rose who voices "Tiana" has actually had parents come up to her and say thank you about this very issue). Now! WHY has this positive change occurred in our society? Because when one of those try-hard wannabes at the front of a classroom spewed out the bull crap they try to instill even in one one conversations with kids they're not smart enough and insightful enough to see the potential and talent in, there was a student like Walt who had the 'VEEEEEERRRRRY GOOD SENSE NOT TO 'LISTEN'. I also want to make a point that it becomes easier... and easier... and easier to be deceived the more lies you allow yourself to listen to and believe. But in terms of the stuff I said before my previous sentence, I only have 2 more words to say. And those 2 words are "SLAM!... DUNK!". The other thing to is; not only is the need and unhealthy genuine 'desire'/'lust' to have mindless YES-MEN 'fascism' (so I agree on that word); it's witchcraft! What's witchcraft in its basic form? It is the want to be in charge. And to do whatever you can to control your environment... so that you 'remain' in charge. It's the complete absence of trust in someone other than you. This is how we know that 'most' teachers (maybe not necessarily Nate's mom) aren't secure... Because secure people don't have that desire. (I'm related to some... and the ones I'm related to make my point, not 'just' the teachers I had).

You guys don't chose your courses in highschool? We do that here in Portugal. I chose Arts and Humanism (all of the subjects were about arts, such as Drawing/Painting, Descriptive Geometry, History of Arts, Math, IT, etc) and that's what I went with in college. It is focused on what college degree you'll pick up later. It helps A LOT

Makes me so happy I'm in an advanced program... We learn the normal stuff but get a little time where the teachers actually get a chance to teach useful things. Although I'm not going to be in that program since I'm going into high school next year, oh well.

Interesting writing anecdote...... Yes, I learned cursive by second grade and wrote that way through most of my public school career. In JR High, I acquired an interest in Calligraphy, (Italic and Gothic) yet continued writing in basic cursive for all of my daily writing. Once I reached High School and discovered an interest in Mechanical and Architectural Drawing, I suddenly had to relearn how to write legibly, and deliberately once again, in a basic block style (mostly Caps) font. So, To practice it, I started writing that way on Everything. It has stuck to this day, and no one can misunderstand what I write. English classes, including literature, and Spelling, have helped me word coherent narratives of incident reports, while i was a Loss Prevention Associate with Wall-Mart, or instances where I had dealt with an irate customer who complained about me At Belk. These reports are either typed now- days or written in my block letter, all-caps style that I learned in Architectural Drawing and Planning, in High School. However, day to day writing is no where near as tidy as what I would letter on a blueprint.

About that first aid stuff. In germany we dont really learn it at school. At least 11 Years ago when i where at school. But It is required to get a first aid course if you want to get a drivers licence. But, in germany, because how packed our country is and how good our public transportation is, in comparison with other countrys like the UK and US from what i heard, we can choose and live completely without a license. My Boss does it, and is around 40 years old. So yeah... no big deal here.

Knowledge is an experience, not something that can simply be taught in school. Some of the smartest people I know never received a formal education - the fact is I may be able to surpass them on an IQ test and yet I would consider them smarter than I because they lived life and the wisdom they gained was more valuable than anything I ever learned in school. Knowledge is a mixture of the experience you gain (wisdom) and what you learn from a book. Here's the truth - now that college has become the new high school (just something that you gotta do), it's ushered in the age of the ill-thought philosopher and the stupid intellectual because now, as the renegades mentioned, this education isn't teaching us wisdom or life skills in order to become self-sufficient. Instead, we're learning facts within closed walls that fail to take into account the rest of the world.
@matthewlee8667
@matthewlee8667 7 лет назад
Why is it that the elders in my life, who never received a formal education, seem to know more than many of the college kids I know? Now that I'm in university, I realize that I know absolutely NOTHING about how the world works and the life skills that my parents are teaching me are more invaluable to me than anything I've learned about writing an essay in English.

The whole forst aid thing is probably a money thing, you pay to learn uselessness and then if you want to learn something useful and don't have any connections to teach you, you could probably find some kind of superior education class that covers first that you will have to pay for and then that money goes to the government.

I agree with them...I know for a fact that I learn much more from a random article on social issue that takes me an hour to read than 7 hours in school a day for 5 days. I would much rather read a book if I wasn't told too. I would much rather go and play a game outside if mom didn't tell me to.

Sad thought but it could happen. Of course then you'll wanna watch matpat's video on how to survive the mad max world (request)

"Don't Stay in School", obviously shock value, in terms of titles. In fact, most of the video was "educational" from a certain perspective. I remember learning how to write a check in elementary. California has STAR testing (standard classes). And, I learned how to read a clock in elementary. As well as ABC's. However, my true love, in terms of "educational" learning, was English. Specifically, library time, and as I got older, writing essays about Lord of the Flies, and other things. I love English, which is why I loved reading/writing so much. Books fascinate me. Especially, books like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbit. World-building, and conveying messages through the written word. My grandfather (may he RIP), was a Math Wiz. He taught Calculus, Trigonometry, Algebra 1 in the Union High School. However, my brain is hardwired for English (grammar, spelling, punctuation, conveying different meanings/themes). Which is why I am attempting to write a Fantasy series of my own: Elf Sisters. I convey themes of spirituality, magic, and sisterhood. As well as Light versus Dark. I also have Asperger's Syndrome. Which is why I tend to go off in my own world a bit. So, Fantasy is my favorite genre. Like English was my favorite subject in school.
