"Bowser kidnaps Peach so she can have a life." So, going go-karting, playing sports, and going on adventures doesn't count towards having a life? I think a much more convincing theory is that Bowser is kidnapping Peach for her magic which she has been shown to have in many games.
In the midst of NC's full review of Temple of Doom, after seeing one of Willie's weepy fits, Doug changes the Dumbasses in Distress list, putting Willie one step above Scrappy Doo.
Ben this is the 1ST time i have wanted to Slug you. Dude the cartoons & Paper Mario AND the super-M&L series PROVE Princess TOADSTOOL Peach hated King Bowser Koopa for the most part.
There is also a theory about Inspector Gadget that is very interesting. There are actually two Inspector Gadgets. The original Gadget was intelligent but after the robocop surgery he went "M.A.D." and wound up becoming Dr. Claw. Not wanting to make the same mistake again they (the people behind the Inspector Gadget program) made a second Inspector Gadget but this time they made him a dumbass on purpose. Notice that Penny always calls Gadget, "Uncle Gadget" take a guess who her dad is? Yup Dr. Claw which would also explain her being so intelligent for her age. The one thing I don't know for sure is, who is the second Gadget? Is he Dr. Claw's brother? Was Dr. Claw's brother an idiot or maybe they messed with his mind? Mostly likely he is just a robot with the same face as Dr. Claw before his surgery.
Yeah, I love Nitendo and Renegades but the theories garbage and makes no goddamn sense. Unless Nintendo's leaders comes out and says it themselves wether it's true, ONLY THEN, will I believe it
Yeah, its a stupid theory. I mean, it could be cool, but it's not a theory, its a fanfic. Peach gets kidnapped, Bowser wants to marry her, marry into power, and basically just wanting Peach as his wife. Mario likes Peach, not in a "I want to marry her" kind of way, though he wouldn't say no if Peach would come up with that, but Peach liked Mario a lot, but wont marry him. She doesnt see Mario that way, which is obvious. The Paper Mario games does show that Bowser cares for peach. So they both just fight for her affection, and Peach isnt interested in any of that. Does that make her a uninteresting character? Not really. Though it would be better if Peach does develope a bit more personality in future games besides just being kidnapped.
Actually that has been a theory for gods knows how long, way before they made this video. Another theory is just that it is not to give excitment in her life, but for Mario be her hero since...what the hell is he otherwise suppose to do for her? he is a god damn plumber.
That theory about Bowser kidnapping Peach "so she can have a life" overlooks at least one very major event. In Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser plans to take over the entire universe with Peach as his queen. Why would he do this (and almost completely destroy the universe in the process) if his end goal was to relieve Peach of her royal duties and let her have a normal life?
simple. after years of the arrangement and hanging out for sports and whatnot together Bowser falls in love with Peach. she's kind, pretty, has her own country where's shes very beloved by her people. she even loves to bake. he just doesn't know how to break that to her so he uses his feelings as the reason he kidnaps her, a secret proclamation of feelings every time but Peach just thinks its just a bit for the "kidnappings" and is already dealing with Mario's affections.
I think she can be developed a lot better. But with the creators being who they are, having a strong independent female character isn't really a selling point in their games. Now, You can make the argument about Samus Aran, and (Maybe) even Zelda as being strong independent females. However, Nintendo Kinda dicked them around to. Samus Aran is still a strong, able bodied, and well developed character. However, Nintendo (This is what I heard though) decided that the "other M" Game (the one where she is practically dependent on her Commander, and goes through PTSD-esque episodes) was deemed canon, and the Metroid Prime game wasn't. The fact that they aren't trying to make a lot more of her games due to "lack of sales/interest" So I assume that they aren't doing much with her because they think male players arn't that interested. Zelda, although a damsel in distress is more useful, because she is actually capable of fighting (to a degree) and actually helps stop ganon/ganondorf multiple times. The fact that she still gets captured and tends to only be there near the end of the game makes it seem like they really don't want to deal with her much. Just once, They should make a game where Zelda is the main character and she actually has to go on a quest herself. ...no I am not counting Zelda CD games. Anyway...sorry if this was way off topic. on a more related note: Peach and Daisy should have a game together. At least to get Daisy back in a main game :p
@@Firan25 I don’t get why everyone is obsessed with female characters being “strong”. Like… that’s not the only type of female character that exists besides the damsel in distress, unless you think Punky Brewster had to be rescued every episode.
Great reaction you guys! Haha, seeing Ben getting triggered over Princess Peach and Jubilee was hilarious. Also, can you all (including Micah and Caleb) react to Nostalgia Critic: Double Team? It's amazing.
You don't know anything about Tim Drake do you? Tim Drake is by far the smartest and most skilled in many regards of the Robins. You must have only seen the animated series version, he was cool but not even close to the skills and awesome personality of the comics. many batman fans agree that Dick Grayson and Tim Drake are by far the best robins, Batman has stated that Tim is the best detective in the world, and he's also in perfect physical condition. The version Tim Drake in the animated series is more like Jason Todd, Jason Todd only became cool when he became Red Hood.
As for Luthor knowing about Clark/Superman, that was addressed in a comic. There was some kind of supercomputer that could answer any question. Luthor stole it and asked it what was the connection between Clark Kent and Superman. The computer, accurately, answered that Clark is Superman. Luthor dismissed it because he couldn't believe a being with as much power as Superman would act like an average, weak human.
Ser Twenty Of House Goodmen Not to mention the reason Bowser actually kidnaps her is because she has the power to render his dark magic null, so yeah... Super Mario 1985 manual to the rescue! xD
Have to say, the way Mary Jane is portrayed in the movies wouldn't tick me off if it weren't for Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy. A lot of the things that make her more interesting *are taken from the comic version of Mary Jane*!!!! Now a lot of people are convinced that Gwen's the better love interest. You know what Mary Jane is like in the comics? Whenever she got kidnapped, she actually found ways to help herself. She grew as a character and became really kickbutt. She lit Hobgoblin on fire, beat the crap out of Chameleon, got her own web-shooters, and even trained with Captain Freaking America! To top it off, in the upcoming Spider-man Renew Your Vows series (and the Ultimate cartoon) she's Spider-woman! Even the main continuity version temporarily became the new Iron Spider. Mary Jane is not an idiot in distress, she is awesome! (When she's written correctly)
Not to mention that Gwen cheated on Peter with Norman Osborn. No joke. Look it up. Hopefully they have badass Mary-Jane in the upcoming Spider-Man game. Apparently she's going to be playable.
i think Black Cat would make the best love interest though not for the first spiderman no no he sucks ass but like the newer one in the marvel universe.... assume if he ever comes back
So. . . they took EVERYTHING that made Mary Jane an interesting character in the comics, and gave it instead . . . to Gwen Stacy?! Wow. . . So, Gwen stole Mary Jane's personality.
YES! YES! YES! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIIIISSSS!!! I actually didn't think you would react to this one. :,3 EDIT: As for some recommendations about Future NC videos, I suggest The Haunting and Pearl Harbor. They have some of the best Nostalgia Critic freakouts ever. I also think the Lés Miserables review would be worth watching. As for your Princess Peach theory, I think it kinda makes things worse. Running from responsibility under the guise of being in danger? Selfish Bitch.
OMG. I watched this video of his just yesterday. On top of that, I even went out to eat at Steak and Shake with a few others yesterday. It's so nice to see you guys reacting to see this video. Too bad Micah wasn't around to see this.
Peach theory...dumbest thing I've ever heard. She's a stereotypical princess to save, even if there was an original backstory to why it happened, then they should make it more obvious in the games. If it's not said directly by a maker of the games or in the games themselves, it's bullshit. Bowser just wants to conquer the kingdom. It has been said multiple times. If you think there's more to it than that, just no.
Not to mention the fact that if Peach is doing this just to have a life, WHY IS BOWSER EVIL? Why doesn't he just take her on an adventure? Theory=illogical and stupid.
Well Mario isnt referred as her boyfriend...Hell in the New paper Mario game she literally calls him her friend even though she gets saved time after time again.
Gamelover254 the only time Peach does anything in any game Is in the not cannon games, and all she does is smack people with her fat ass. Yeah what you say is correct, Ben is treating his theory as true when it's not mentioned once in any game that his theory could be correct, just because you have a lousy excuse for horrible story telling, with the princess getting kidnaped in every game, doesn't mean that Doug is wrong, Doug is 100% correct in that she's a dumbass in distress.
If she has magic powerful enough to stop him... then WHY doesn't she stop him from kidnapping her? why should Mario, the guy who _doesn't _*_HAVE_*_ magic and relies on magic mushrooms and clouds to be strong enough_ be the one who saves her?
Tashka Gc I'm talking about the magic that like... turned the residents into bricks and stuff. Or if you go with the other games, she has the vibe cepter, and is supposed to be the only one who can control the star rod.
Plus, she even helped Zenketsu,Satsuki and The Elite Four to save Ryuko from being manipulated and brainwashed by Ragyo and Nui for putting on Junketsu.
I don't really like your theory on Princess Peach; considering how much damage gets caused in the kidnappings and rescues, there would be a large cost in both life and property (on both sides), if Peach is party to that then she really doesn't seem like the kind of person you want running the kingdom
The reason why I can't agree with this theory in 24:00 is that if she wanted to she can go wherever she wants. I mean in the Paper Mario A Thousand Year Door she was able to be by herself in a town. So if she wanted she can go and no one can stop her. Plus Bowser has stated so many times, he likes her and wants to make her his queen. This is why I can't agree to that theory.
I honestly liked Scrappy for one simple reason. After so many years of watching four adults and a full-grown Great Dane run away from a villain, it was refreshing to have SOMEONE in the group that actually had a spine. I mean seriously, for the most part, they outnumber the bad guy five to one, surely you know it's just a guy in a mask FIGHT BACK ALREADY. And the thing is Scrappy is actually able to back up his tough talk most of the time.
The theory is cool, but the fact that you have to find a way to justify her status as damsel in distress proves that there's a problem with her character as it is.
Still, I can see those problems with Peach ruining the games for some people, since her being rescued is the crux of the game (at least the earlier ones).
Er, one problem with your theory on Peach, if she, Bowser, and Mario are doing all of that, then that would be extremely irresponsible to put their entire kingdoms in the line of fire when Mario stages his saving the princess routine. He physically beats his way through Bowser's kingdom to get to her, that seems a bit extreme for three individuals of power to do. The risk of rebellion would be extremely high if the kingdoms ever found out. It's a nice idea, don't get me wrong, but putting it into the perspective of everything that goes on in an average Mario game, it just makes the whole idea seem flawed and majorly irresponsible of Peach, Mario, and Bowser.
Yes. And the one who ruined the Star Wars prequels for me and pretty much some of the Star Wars fans as well. If i was a Jedi,i would let the droid army kill him.
I remember reading a Star Wars crossover fanfiction, cant remember what it was crossed over with, in which the character brought in from an outside perspective came to the conclusion that the sith lord was either Palpatiene one other character i cant remember or Jar Jar binks as well
So your defense was Peach is intentionally getting kidnapped because she's bored of being in power all the time and wants excitement in her life? While I agree that theory makes her less of a dumbass, it also makes her more manipulative and somewhat evil.
As for Jar Jar, look up the Star Wars The Clone Wars series, and watch Bombad Jedi. Tell me he's still useless after that. And the first time he appears, he's an unarmed civilian faced by large quantities of droids that are military quality. He's got a damn good reason to need rescuing. Also, bullshit, Jar Jar is FAR from the only reason Palpatine got to power. Remember who called for a vote of no confidence that got Valorum, the previous guy, kicked out of power? Padme. And even without Jar Jar, odds are, Palpatine would have become Chancellor either way. There's no way in hell he could have predicted Jar Jar, odds are, he had a lot of other plans on how to make it to Supreme Chancellor that didn't involve him.
I don't care for JarJar myself, but agreed, I will say that I enjoy his Race though, besides the Twi'leks and Togruta, I think the GonGons are my favorite Star Wars race
Ben, regarding your "so Princess Peach can have a life" theory; it doesn't really work, because for starters, they've said that Princess Peach is the only one who has the magic power that can undo Bowser's magic (turning people into bricks), so he kidnaps her so she can't undo his magic. Also, if he wants Peach to "have a life," why would he kidnap her to throw her in a castle dungeon and/or try to marry her to give her a higher position of power (becoming a Queen)
The Nostalgia Critic has reviewed Quest For Camelot, so if you were to take a look at that you can get both that out of the way and get a video out of the deal.
to Ben's theory when you get kidnapped and when you realize you don't know what's gonna happen, even if think the world might be better off without you or would be a better place, the thing would be going through your mind is whats going to happen and you don't know and just by don't knowing is pretty scary. Not a new beginning.
Problems with that theory? Bowser is a FUCKING TURTLE who doesn't give a shit about anybody but himself! Bowser sends several minions to KILL Mario. And she's always CRYING in the cage she's kept in! Would any willing victim cry about being held captive? Fuck no!
20:08- Well, let's not forget she was a party member in Super Mario RPG and a pretty useful one at that. But then again, Doug Walker doesn't play RPGs, so I wouldn't expect him to know that.

28:50 The thing that made the whole thing with the vibe scepter in super princess peach really ridiculous, where is that at the end of the game it makes a comment for the kids playing the game to go look for the vibe scepter it might be in their parents room.
Yeah Scrappy is so annoying not only they made him the villain of the first live-action movie so it would be cathric for him to get taken down, but he was straight up dissed in an episode of the Mystery Incorporated series with Fred saying to NEVER speak of him again. And mind you this is the Fred in this series that was completely obsessed with traps and wasn't the brightest guy around lol
I understand the thing with Peach, she doesn't do much. She kind of stands around until Bowser gets there and kidnaps her then Mario/Luigi go after her. I bet she has "get kidnapped" written in her planner it happens so much and also Bowser kidnaps her to give his kids a mom and she's like no thanks, but still just stands around not trying to escape. Take some initiative Peach, your daughter is a bigger bad ass.
i like the peach needs a life theory. it be interesting to have it confirmed. my personal favorite theory is mat pat's bowser is actually the hero trying to save peach from the toads theory.
"Fun fact: black actually makes you stand out more in the dark." The hell kind of black are you talking about? There have been times where I'm on my way home, I don't see a person wearing all black until the headlights show them
Yeah, I think Miyamoto himself has said that Peach is just a damsel in distress, a character from the early days of video games. If the creator says it, I don't think there's much denying it.
Yeah, maybe Peach, Bowser, & Mario have a plan for when they're bored, so the kidnapping thing is one way to alleviate that boredom. I mean, Mario is a plumber, so that can't be too exciting; Peach usually doesn't do much in the Kingdom; and Bowser because they need a "villain" who is willing to go along with the plan.
wait a second...did you guys watch Matpat's Game Theory about peach? it is thought that she is actually the queen of the toads who are an infectious fungus that are controlled by a queen
