renee rapp did a great job playing regina (especially considering since it was made more for taylor louderman's voice lol), she didn't deserve the hate at all.
and in a lot of people's opinion, including mine, she blew the original Regina's recordings of the songs out of the water, and at just 19. Reneé's version of World Burn in particular (which you can watch on here) is unbelievable. She's truly special
She’s beautiful, and no one deserves to be shamed, but the costumes played a part in the impression people had of her body, they didn’t flat her at all. Terrible costume design. The broadway ones were perfect.
@@the-petri-dish-emoji yes it’s so sad to hear :( she’s talked about it at various times over the years, on her TikTok etc, but spoke about it at length on the ‘Call her daddy’ interview on here if you want to hear her talk about it. She’s so gorgeous ❤️
I think people aren't realizing how much Regina has an eating disorder. Her obsession with losing "5 pounds" in the first movie flew over my head. In the new movie, during the scene where she's running on the treadmill in a sweat suit in the dark and won't get off-- that's when it hit me in the face that she has an ED. And then seeing this now "I never weigh more than 115". They played it up more in the musical too I see.
@@jjthejet8447 eating disorders are irrational and uncontrolable, wanting to go on a diet is not disordered eating, looking at yourself and going "Ive gotten fat I gotta lose some weight" is not disordered thinking all of the time
@@zzzzzuya okay did you grow up in that time? Disordered eating was a serious thing all around and glorified on tv. Every girl I knew in HS was making themselves throw up, taking laxatives, exercising hours a day to stay below 110 lbs to fit low cut jeans. Please don’t explain to me what I am talking about 😂
Renee rapp ate this up! Kinda odd how they changed the lyrics in the musical movie from “I don’t weigh more than 115” to “That filter you use looks just like me.”
Tbh I think the original line was alright, because it really showed how Regina was really cautious about her weight (even drinking only sugar cranberry juice in that one OG movie scene if I remember correctly). It also made the scene when she says “these sweatpants are all that fit me right now” have a bit more emotional depth (in the OG movie). However, I had no idea Renee got bodyshamed for being Regina- that’s so sad!!!
@Rachels_stuff worse when you realise it was by the people who worked with her on the show, like the directors. They also changed a bunch of her outfits to cover parts of her body.
idc who mad, this was fun as a musical! i guess as a theater kid, i understand why i can appreciate this gem & also why others don’t vibe with this genre… but i would have totally enjoyed seeing the whole performance live!!!!
Ngl, I hated the Broadway costumes. I think they’re hideous. 😂 I vibed more with the movie’s costumes because I would definitely wear that shit and not gaf what anyone said about it.
why can't people just adapt musicals more faithfully? the musical works because it's a musical. if you want to make an adaptation of a musical that started as a musical, even one that's already an adaptation of a movie, look to other examples. Chicago, Hairspray, Grease. Movies like Lalaland were made for the movie, there was no lalaland musical first. look at the Legally Blonde or Heathers musical or Beatlejuice. All musical adaptations of movies. If we made movie adaptations of the musicals, they need to be more like Chicago or Hairspray, faithful to the musical, not trying to be some weird hodge podge of the orignal movie and some songs.
@@_leggsy An understudy is a person that takes over the usual actor if they can't preform that night. This usually happens if the main actor is sick or has an emergency that comes up.
yes she got touched on set, but its apart of the choreography. She was probs fine with it, it would've been cut out if she wasn't comfortable. YOU GUYS GOTTA STOP MENTIONING IT-
This reads more high school than Broadway am I hallucinating?? Lots of talent but felt like lots of lines were missed and direction was a little limp? Still incredible performances, just.. off?
I’ve watched the traveling broadway cast of mean girls live and this pretty much exactly what the scene looks like, I think it’s just because it’s in a highschool setting in the story
I saw it in New York with the original cast and it was amazing. The sets, choreography, costumes, voices, everything was super good. This video does not do it justice. In actuality the show was amazing and very up to Broadway standards
It wasn’t Reneé’s fault in the movie, it’s how the director and the rest of the people behind the scenes wanted the songs and lines to be said and delivered, and they thought it would be better that way. Obviously, it’s not (imo), but it’s not Reneé’s fault, she did amazing working around the rules and regulations
Screen acting and theatre, especially broadway acting, are completely different crafts. Theatre is meant to be dramatic but cinema is meant to be realistic it’d be weird af to see her act like this in a movie
As posted above, it's not supposed to be a laud-worthy trait. It's that Regina has an ED and is obsessed with her weight. Even in the movie-musical it was a plot point about how she was trying to lose weight and was tricked into eating those bars to gain weight.
I understand that, but Reneé was getting cruel fat shaming; and they even changed her outfit compared to Taylor’s outfits, because it showed her curves…. She has said how she was never that weight! …. She admitted how terrible her own ED was playing Regina….. I understand that’s the plot; but when people are cruel to the artist that’s where I draw the line! I guess with me being plus sized I just think it’s terrible that people can’t let bodies just be bodies…. No matter the size. Like the lyric doesn’t Eve piss me off; it’s the true back story of how everyone treated Reneé💔
@@ikaru5089 Dude, if the director says Reneé has to change clothes because she isn't as thin as they would like her to be, how is it HER fault for changing the character? Also she looks amazing, I get that the original came out during the height of EDs which shaped Regina's character and looks, but they could've still left it in the script without attacking Reneé. She's not fat, she looks healthy and curvy in a very-far-from-fat-and-obesity-way. Aside from that, I much prefer the actual musical as they don't seem to take themsevles so seriously. The new movie however... eh
@ikaru5089 the directors bullied her so hard she started starving herself…. You are an asshole if you think that she should just “suck it up”. That’s an entire person, not someone who lives and breathes to look exactly how others want her to
@@lifeofnikkisstudios217 no she isn't, they both bring different factors to the character and they're both very talented. Sabrina is awesome, but Erika is the og
I think the movie was ok… but them cutting this song out was the dumbest decision they could’ve made Imo and was a common theme of them messing up by not including good parts like this or completely cutting it out. So annoying really.
@@Vam3lz thank you. The people who made the film are “Life Ruiners” because they did ok but this movie could’ve been one of the best musicals ever. But nope.
In my opinion I loved the person playing Janis:] I think she’s great! Doesn’t anyone have any other videos with her in mean girls? Cus I barely see any- I love barret aswell but I only see videos with her in ^^ Don’t get me wrong SHE IS AN AMAZING ACTOR! but I wanna see other people play Janis to^^
uhm i hate to be the one to say this but, is the girl playing janis a professional singer? she is so baddddddd.. (i am saying this as a LOVER of mean girls ) this actor/singer is disrespect to this AMAZING musical.
she consented to it as it is a part of the show. These types of things (groping, kissing etc) also happens in movies and TV shows, do you complain about it then too or do you recognize that they are actors in a make believe scenario and it's not real?
Does it matter? The movie brought in more fans to the Broadway version. What even is a “real” Broadway fan anyway? I enjoy movie musicals as much as I love their Broadway counterparts. Doesn’t make me any less a fan of Broadway. People who haven’t watched Broadway at all until this still don’t deserve to be belittled for being curious as to what the original source material is.
@@mariahmorales6834 It matters do a degree because the movie mob ppl are being incredibly annoying in the comments and picking apart things that have NEVER been an issue, like Cady not being a redhead- because it doesn't matter in the musical but yet its all the movie people that are losing their shit over it.
@@Seraphythesimp that’s what I was afraid of. It’s a bummer because I was so much looking forward to it. It pisses me off when they screw up a musical movie that bad. I mean, come on… The theater musical was an incredible hit. Why change things that drastically?
Cause they only showed Regina’s part in the musical whilst the actual song is called meet the PLASTICS cause they all introduce themselves, not just Regina. They cut Gretchen, Karen’s and the part where the three of them sing, thus, cutting most of the song
