@@BrianTindall-fl5hc totally agree. You had just got your car. You were still getting dialed in to it. I think there are a lot of AMG owners watching this that are a little butt-hurt that getting a RENNtech ECU tune can deliver virtually the same acceleration performance as an AMG.
I think the real race was race 1. My camera guy even said, “C’mon man! 2 out of 3!” I was, like, “Nah. That was a perfect demonstration of RENNtech vs. AMG.” But I did 2/3 anyway.
1. The AMG isn't the p30 performance package. So it's just 518 horsepower. Weighting 4,300+ lbs without the driver. 2. The AMG is rwd so it shows it true potential from a roll. 3. The heat, humidity and altitude affects it's performance. 4. The guy driving the AMG do not know how to launch his car (he can't drive).
@@talkditingsdem5799 we did discus how he was new to an AMG beast with only RWD at the end of the video. He just needs to dial himself in to his new car is all. Correct on all other counts. The D-Alt affected both our cars equally.
Was looking forward to this. It would have been interesting for you to switch cars. This fellows reaction times killed him. The first race would be the best read for the difference between the cars. A better analysis would be for your best time in both cars. The Renntech tune certainly seems worth the money.
Yes my reaction times sucked. Not having the car for very long and a hectic work schedule didn't leave much time to get some launches under my belt. Too much boost created wheel hop, too little and it lagged bad.
True that. I imagine, with density altitudes closer to actual field elevation, the times would have been much closer to 12:00 sec. We might do a rematch in January, once Brian knows his AMG better. Thanks for commenting!
Nah even with bad reaction time the Amg would still beat a 550. This video just sold me. I got beat multiple times in my gls 550 by 63’s. Now although they were sedans the gapping was disrespectful, and I regularly beat up on 53, 43, infinities, certain bmws(lol) etc i need that extra speed.
I think Race 1 was everything a well maintained CLS 63 AMG and/or a RENNtech ECU tuned 550 can do with a DA of 1550'. Some sluggish R/T's on both of our parts that race. AMG:.12.46 1/4 mile - .707 R/T = 11.75 sec. Assuming a low DA (close to sea level) and a professional class R/T (sub 0.1 sec) all the time, upper 11's could very well be expected from a CLS 63 AMG.
@@BrianTindall-fl5hc Agreed. Putting all that power down to the rear wheels only takes some getting used to. Like we agreed in the post-race, people need to get dialed in to their cars too.
@@ethanberdejacortez4845 it’s a 2014. I think I’m gonna wait to buy a 2021 S-Couple 65 AMG to put lots of tasteful or performance enhancing mods in to a car.
If you drive the car like a rational human being, there should be no additional wear or tear on your power train. Do I get on it every now and then? Sure do. But I also don't "race" my car...with the exception of the RENNtech vs. AMG video I did. @@traybutts4425
Would you be kind enough to send me the link about your process of finding your CLS and what to look for? Especially the engine nomenclature - M???. I am pretty much done with AMG's. Fast, but so much more expensive for service. Your CLS description and my age appear to be a good match. Thank you and am enjoying your channel. Bill in Tallahassee
Great video. I also have a cls550 and debating to go for the Rentech or Weistec tune. Once I get it I might come down and do a test run test at Bradenton. I'm up in Tampa area.
@@shelbyhaiketic4212I have the weistec tune for my cls550 4matic and love it. Super good customer service, easy to install and performs like a monster!
I think our first race was proof, not only that Brian can drive, but also that the acceleration performance of the CLS 63 AMG can be equaled by a CLS 550/500 with a RENNtech tune. Brian just got the car at the time of filming and he still has to get dialed in to it.
