Major demo starts today on this 1889 frontier house in Montana that has been in the family for generations. We start by saving as many boards and square nails as we can, but the rot has gone too far. Much of the lean-to can't be saved, so we bring in the bulldozer and get to work.
Episode 5 of the 1889 PROJECT: where we are renovating/rebuilding a piece of history in the American West. Join us as we harvest timber, stones and materials from the surrounding land. We sawmill our own boards, research through old history books, and put the muscle in to make a monument to pioneer homestead life.

I realize the novel ideal of keeping the authenticity of the "ole-homestead" that includes doing without a proper sanitary sewage system. building an outhouse will solve everything, but it's far from making that place a home. good luck on the repaired shed with stove & chairs

Haha I’m not saying your wrong… Luxury is relative throughout time and place. Montana in 1889 was no luxurious place. You either get the charm of that or you don’t 😆

When we lived in Fairbanks, AK in the early 2000s, the people were throwing a fit because the city wanted everyone on city sewer lines. People did not want to give up their outhouses. That was in a place that would get to -60 for at least a week a year. I would say they all considered their houses a home. You like what you are accustomed to.
