I am so relieved you decided to take out the drywall. Especially important with mold issues, and now you can insulate for huge energy savings. What is the status on the crack in the basement wall? *Make sure your floors can bear the weight before tiling!! * Save the window and door trim! That's old strong wood and you can use it to build nightstands, shelving units, benches, window boxes, small tables, etc!! Love the music on your channel!
@TheCowboysdude

YES to the tiling comment. As a contractor you must be sure!!! IF you can always take at least the outer wall sheetrock off to check for adequate insulation, vapor protection and yes mold!!

The "thin" insulation you pulled out last is a moisture barrier, you'll need to put something similar back in place before adding insulation or you may get mold pretty quickly after doing the drywall.

If you’re taking all of the drywall off, I personally would reconsider rearranging your rooms so the bathroom is between your studio and your master bedroom. Pocket doors would save a lot of floor space to the bathroom. You’re doing a great job! Also, I would put all your clothing in a garment bag to keep all of the dust off of it. I personally would put a tarp over my bed in the morning, so you know it’s clean at night. 🎉

That back door and the double windows, ...it'd gorgeous if those three were torn out and replaced with exterior french doors or sliders. More natural light plus more esthetic to exit onto a big back deck! 😊❤❤ I love that you are reusing and upcycling the whole house! Humans practice waste and disposal WAY too much. My mother always said..."use it up, wear it out. Make it do or do without". I live by that!

Before you put up new drywall in the kitchen, You might consider installing smaller windows into the existing window openings. That would allow you to use all of the available wall space for cabinets. If you run the new windows to the top of the available openings, you should be able to easily close off the space beneath the new windows. Also, when ever we do a demo similar to what you are doing, we will back the pickup truck or trailer to the closest window or door to the work area so that we limit the distance we have to carry all that junk.

Tia, your work ethic is something to put in the record books! I wish you were able to upload more often because I so enjoy watching you do what you do. My daughter is almost 36, and there's so much she wants to do to her house, and I have told her over and over again that she should try doing some things herself. But that's not an option for her. She says after working a full time job all week long that she's too darned tired to come home to home repairs/remodeling. I wish I was able to help her, but I am in a wheelchair at the moment, so that's just not an option I guess. Anyway, keep up the fantastic work and we will see you next week.

Before you insulate the walls again, stuff steel wool (or copper mesh if you can get it) in any holes bigger than the tip of your pinky. It will block pests from getting in your walls. You can also spray foam gaps. Don’t forget to add some kind of vapor barrier to the interior side of the insulation. Older homes don’t have a vapor barrier and it can make the space damp. I’m excited to see your home come together.

This is my new favorite breakfast watching! 🥰 Okay so 17 years ago, I gutted my entire kitchen to the studs and remodeled it myself. The flooring in the house was all hardwood except the kitchen was old linoleum with pine subfloor. I chose to do a pre-finished darker stained hardwood in my kitchen and it was the BEST decision! It held up to our dirty shoes tracking in things from the garden and chickens. I had throw rugs to catch stuff but we were hard on it and it was so comfortable on the feet. Lemme tell ya, TILE IS COLD AND HARD. So if you haven't decided yet on what to do, I would suggest get the same hardwood and do it through the whole house. It will also make it look bigger because the whole house will be the same flooring. We bought ours through Lumber Liquidators and got a medium budget one that we knew was prefinished. It was perfect. I will absolutely do hardwood in my kitchens in the future. BTW, I'm in Missouri so we get some pretty cold winters. The wood floors are just warmer. Obviously, if budget is an issue then maybe just to plywood floors with laminate tiles. That is the cheapest and will still be easier on the feet. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!

For the dehydrator ask the Plummer to help it drain into the sewer via the floor with a hose attachment. It looks like mine. There will be a place to attach in the back. Otherwise during curtain times of year it’ll pool so much water will shut off full often. I was so happy to figure this out. Hope this helps. For the canning area look into adding a space for a root cellar. Though it doesn’t have to be a big space. Just dark for storage and maintain the temp for your over winter crops like potatoes, varieties of squash, etc. You can look up how to make one on a shelf wrapped in fabric if room is an issue to building one. That shelf you mentioned and showed was probably for canning supplies. Have one in my vintage property basement from 1900. Plus I’ve seen ones like that being used in other older homes. Adding a freezer in the basement for some food storage you harvest and things you wanna buy bulk to help keep longer … like I buy a 25 pound sack of organic oats I use daily. It goes in the freezer. Except for a container full of in the kitchen. 7 cubic foot top open works for me. You could get one on sale. I’m able to store plenty of summer crop veggies prepped plus canning which takes longer. Plus the organic bulk stuff when it’s on sale. Your fridge/freezer is similar to mine in size. You won’t regret the extra freezer space in the basement. It helps also with some bulk buying from the store if you wanna save time running to the store for everyday food needs or recipes. Hope this is helpful. Enjoying the work. I’m in the process of renovating a vintage property. Your work is inspirational.

Very good progress, Miss! I could never understand why my late brother (who was a short, skinny guy) always used huge 32 oz. framing hammers until I helped him during some demo work. Big ass hammers with straight backs make excellent demo tools. Between that and a Wunderbar, there was nothing he couldn't take down/destroy :) I agree with your removing that 'doorway" between the kitchen and bathroom, it is just in the way and looks much better gone. Looking forward to the next video! Much respect and high regards,

You should vacuum the insulation bags when you have tied them up. I have made my own vac bags before by using gaffer tape on a patch inside & out, then perforate with lots of teeny holes over about 1” square & suck the air out with another unperforated piece of tape ready to seal the holes. It saves so much SPACE when loading up to o to the dump if you aren’t using a skip - or even if you are!

While you have the drywall torn out could you do a close up tour of all the walls and how your house and basement are partitioned out. Let the viewers give you a second set of eyes. They might offer some really creative floor plans and storage areas. It sounds like you are going to do a little homesteading and canning. You need a nice little pantry downstairs for that with some custom shelving. Doesn't have to be complicated, just well researched. For one besides storing jars you will need deep shelves for you canning equipment, empty jars and 5 gallon buckets if you are getting grains in bulk. Some overhead florescent lights starting garden seeds and for when you are cleaning and organizing your pantry and maybe a carpet for keeping the dust down. An extra bathroom in the basement as your family grows or guests come.

Totally agree with this. We did interior insulation when building this house and the difference is wonderful. The house is so quiet, don't hear water running in bathrooms, tv sounds from other rooms are muted. House stays a more constant temperature and if you want to heat or cool just one room thats where the heat/cool stays. We are an all electric home and spend a lot of time at home as we are retired. Between interior and exterior insulation, ceiling fans and a good solar system with any excess going back to the grid (just the panels, no batteries) we haven't had a power bill for over a year. In fact were are in credit with the power company. Living in Australia we don't get the cold winters you do so that helps, but we do get some scorchers in the Summer for weeks at a time and air cons are used. Love your videos and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your home.

I love your doggie! 🐶 And love the renos. I completely tore out 2 basements and designed and built 2 lovely basement suites. I loved doing it, but I’m too old and worn out to do much more of that. 😢 I’m 68. I just replaced a bathroom sink though! 😅

Please don't forget to make sure that your foundation is fixed and solid for all types of weather. That's really important so your house will last forever.

You are working hard. I bet you sleep good at night. Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping you have no major bumps. Look what you've already done. Wow! The good thing with so much being new is it should last a very long time. Especially with regular up keep.

Such a nice person whomever sold the house to you.❤ I don't know if I would even have the strength to renovate a whole house like that. I paint this my wheelhouse. ❤ but I can't wait to see the finished product.

Wow looks like that place narrowly escaped a fire long ago! Old furnaces as well... was probably putting out some pretty toxic air. Some basic plumbing is worth learning, you can save a lot and these days it's mostly PEX (plastic) piping even, you just need a small set of tools to work with it. Not much soldering etc to learn now! but it can still be useful to know.

One suggestion Tia unless it already part of this and I did not catch it is and especially on the outside walls and after electrical is run and any possible plumbing stuff plus maybe the new windows are in spray foam insulation as that will seal things up much better from the inside than rolled insulation by far. Depending on what you decide for the attic area - suggest the same as more than worth the extra $$ spent from a long term take. One additional thing is there might be $$ available thru local or federal incentives too plus your utility company possibly - not sure. Thank You for saving a house with character Tia as I do not have much of an opinion of those who would have tore it down and then put up a nice generic box as I see so much of the last few years. That home is going to look and be so fantastic I am sure when you are done! 👍👍👍

Wow so much progress.I couldn't do all that.I,d have to hire a crew for the work .When you replace the wallboard use a vapor barrier and insulation as it gets cold where your at. Will help keep heat costs down.if you can maybe and some to the attic area that would be good to.

That black stuff on the floor is probably underlayment for the rug. I found that when I pulled up my grandma's blue shag carpet. I scrapped it up because it had disintegrated across half the area. Was hoping to take it down to fresh concrete but was too big of a job for a small area. Rest of house had terrazzo under the carpet.

Black stuff is the stuff that comes off of the carpet. Your carpet was glued to the floor scrape it off with the flat putty knife it’ll come off really nice.
