Thus, some of the models' garments can instantly be switched (via the magical elbow pose), and their outfits still go together. I am very pleased to see a really good quality version of this commercial on RU-vid, instead of the other lousy & incomplete 2nd generation ones.
So this phrase originated from rock music in English (“yeah, yeah”) which then became a phrase used in France in the early 1960s to describe a type of young female singer (the “ye-ye girls”), which then traveled to Japan as a part of their admiration of French culture. In fact the most popular “ye-ye girl” in France, Sylvie Vartain, did a commercial for this same Japanese clothing company, Renown, a year or two before this one. Hers is in black & white and shows ultra-‘60s op art patterns while she sings in her approximation of Japanese, which of course she could not speak. This is also on RU-vid.
I was told yesterday that women saying “no, no” quickly in Japanese (as this phrase also sounds in this commercial) is actually supposedly a teasing, sort of seductive way of leading a man on. She says “no, no” but actually means “yes, yes” - a common claim made by men worldwide.
