Hey guys! I’m so excited to share my rental kitchen makeover with you all and share Sherwin Williams COLOR OF THE YEAR: NAVAL.
I love a blue & white moment. I also love a good dramatic color, and I’ve already professed my deep love for the color Alabaster. Naval and Alabaster are having a moment together and I’m LOVING it!

PAINT & PROCESS:
1. Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex in Alabaster -www.sherwin-williams.com/home...
This made a HUGE difference on the walls, although somewhat subtle. I’m a huge believer that the right white, the right cream, the right shade makes a massive difference. This is more elegant and looks more expensive, in my opinion. I LOVE Alabaster It’s a gamechanger, and my current favorite, cozy warm white.
2. Emerald Trim Enamel in Naval: www.sherwin-williams.com/home...
My cabinets were far from perfect, so this was the perfect way to hide & compliment with a pretty, rich color. The bottom cabinets recede and allow the lighter shades to pop and appear even brighter. I painted the cabinet doors on the hinges because I find it easier and then went around to the back. I couldn’t be happier with the results!

I think this is one of the most inspiring home decorating makeovers on RU-vid! And I have watched a lot of them. It does not leave me dissatisfied with what I have but challenges me to make the best of what I have. The paint color is the icing on the cake. My husband and I are moving in a few months and I have been dreading it but I now feel more hopeful. I am looking forward to seeing more. Thank you.

Gloria Aguilar This is the truth... They'll either raise your rent, or won't renew your lease, then call it an 'updated' home and raise the rent for a new tenant. Don't advertise!🙏 BTW, this was inspiring - I'm heading to watch again, taking notes in my mind, and now I know what colors I'm doing my 'new' 1963 ranch kitchen!

This is actually no joke... I rented here in England a few years ago and I had a boyfriend who was great at DIY and he completely made over my lounge room...I bought the materials and we both did the labour. My landlord came round to check my boiler.....admired the lounge and a few days later I received a letter... It said " I hope you are pleased with the recent improvements at (my address) .... He was letting me know that the rent would be increasing!!!??? I kid you not!! I no longer live there.

If you were my tenant, I would hire you to help me do repairs and updates on the other units. As far as rent increasing goes, on the average, 3-5% raise in rent costs are typical each year to keep up with costs of living and higher cost of repairs done by professional contractors.

Sadly most landlords won't, they would rather call it an "updated" home and raise her rent or if she moves out they will raise it. Our landlords said if we "updated" our rental our rent would be raised

Most landlords and landladies would have to be really shortsighted to "punish" people for improving their property, beyond stupid! If I was renting out property, I would be thrilled to get someone that treated the property as if they owned it and took pride in what they did! The owners that would raise the rent after an upgrade that they did not even pay for are no better than thieves, in my opinion!

@@lovespurpleflowers You are right about that, but it happened to me when I spruced up the kitchen with paint and added some nice decor throughout. Couldn't believe it when the landlady raised my rent. She said it looked like I could afford to pay more!

Wow !! What a coincidence .....I follow both of you and enjoy the videos SO much !! During this isolation I have so looked forward to seeing everything you guys post....the chance to feel connected even though it is from my living room sofa has meant a great deal to me and I'm sure to so many others like myself !! Gorgeous blue. Fantastic job. What I love so much about your makeovers is that you re-use items you have or purchase second hand/vintage/thrift items instead of brand new things. I think that it gives a much more classic European look, as though the items have been handed down over generations. It gives charm and style to the room. Also, you remind me of Drew Barrymore so much.

I like the bottom cabinets Naval color. The kitchen looks more like a home and when everything was cream color, it looked like a rental kitchen. Nice job!

Love it! My favorite parts. Bamboo type window covering, navy paint, fabulous rolling butchers block, both table nooks . It has such a relaxed cozy feel.

Looks Great! Love the color. If you want that window to look even bigger. Raise the Roman blind to the ceiling and let it hand to the top of the window to hind the uneven top. Then add some green vine hanging out of the basket turned sideways on the fridge and let it hand down the side in the corner area. It will hind the starkness of the corner wall and soften it. Hope those horses love that hay.

This is so very wise!!!! I am a nurse who works with trauma patients and their families. I am also a “seasoned” nurse which is just code for old having been a nurse for 33 yrs. lol I have mentor many young nurses and this will definitely be added to the things I will impart. To survive in this extremely fast paced often tragic atmosphere you need to do exactly as you said, “Close the door”. I wish I had come across this metaphor years ago for my own family’s sake. Many times I couldn’t wait to get home and hug my kids and husband based on what I’d taken care of that day. Thank you so much. I truly appreciate you sharing this!

Oh this is so good! I know I'll totally watch this twenty times again, hoping to catch a whiff of inspiration :-). I mean, this is a fully functional, proper kitchen, yet it looks like a gorgeous room one would simply like to hang out in. This is the first I've found your channel. I really enjoyed your video. It gave me an idea to re-do my Mom antiqure teacart she left me before she passed. It is very old but in perfect shape. I'm going to paint it, as you did, but leave the top of it and the handles that stay open and stick out (if you know what tea carts with handles looks like). I will then wax the top and handles so I can use it without damaging it. I can tell you and I would become friends if we lived close to each other. I love getting ideas like yours, which helps me, so thank you for sharing your kitchen makeover for us to view. I do not think you are a snob. You're like me when I accomplish something and it turns out great. I just get excited and want everyone to see it. Excellent job. You seem pretty smart so I am sure your Landlord was happy to have you make such a capital improvement to his or her property. We rent a condo in another state from where we live. It’s a long story. However when we went to see the condo it needed repainting and some tender loving care. The location and the rent were great and we knew we could make it much better. So we agreed to do the work and landlady paid for the paint. We made it look like our home. Paint gives you so much bang for your buck. It is by far the best capital improvement you can make on a property. I love what you did. I agree with you that the hanging lantern light just topped it off. I just subscribed. Thanks! @@heymaryelizabeth I know the coverage is good, but is it super duper? Do you think I would have to prime first? There was at least a decade of smoking her before I moved in. There is tar dripping down my walls. Do you think if I just prep with TSP & then paint, it might work?

@@hisomebodytrackingmuch1309 Good luck. Heavy duty cleaning, proper prep work & paint do not always fix the history of chain-smoking tenants. Had gross nicotine steam out of bathroom walls of a rental no matter what we did.😂😭🤣

From a sow's ear to a silk purse! Bravo....well done! Leaving the top cabinets white was a good move...keeps the kitchen looking airy without weighing it down with a dark color at the top. The tables with personal touches makes a welcome statment = to cozy. One of the best make overs I've seen on RU-vid. P.S. Everything you did was also practical in making the kitchen a very usable spaces with style.

Job well done! My first apartment was a dump but the rent, layout, and square footage were great. Even though the lease said we couldn't paint, my twin brother and I did anyway. When the condo manager finally saw it, she loved it so much that they changed the rules about not painting. She actually said, "I can't believe what you did to this dump." Behold the power of paint!

After watching your videos a few years ago, I decided I'd ask my landlord if I could paint, and they said yes! i love it too..im just about to PAINT..i have disabilities so it takes me time to do decorative things..it can take a month to just clean the walls..lol. but seriously not joking... so i was thinking of a grey blue ish color on cabinets..but im loving this naval..my kitchen is tiny..but has a little breakfast nook..i just painted that last week so this week is resting til pain levels go down..i only have small space of CABINET and plan to get rid of alot of my china glasses etc..so it Will be easy on me..so love this idea...its a very dramatic change but a beautiful one...

I don't know about your mobility, but a family member of mine uses a swiffer with a cleaning rag hooked onto it to clean the walls so she doesn't have to climb on top of anything

Wow! The end result was so unexpected. I love loooove that you left some cabinets white. And all the extra tables to soften the kitchen. So different from the typical boho chic kitchens that’ve been trending. I’m so surprised with how this kitchen turned out and love it so much! Really well done!!

Wow!! Really gorgeous - the stainless definitely pops now, the Naval paint is bomb, the lantern light oh yesss - even the small lamp on the table that has a nice glow. I LOVE IT ALL!!

Where I used to live ( I owned my condo my neighbor rented hers) she got permission from her landlord to redo her kitchen, with her contractor boyfriend. After the work was done, the land lord gave her a 30 day notice to move, because he was selling it. As a renter, be careful what you do, and what your land lord agrees to. Well done though.
