@🫠leanora🫠 acrylic and latex (house paint) are the same basic thing. Both water soluble, and each forms a non-permiating layer on top of the wood. Oil, on the other hand absorbs into wood and is not water soluble. Acrylic and latex are both mutually friendly.
@@Crossword131 their point is that if someone else is doing it they can get the specific paint needed. She herself didn’t want to buy the new paint because she already had paint, so she prolly didn’t mind it.
Renters tip: if you ever need to repair holes or peeling paint when the wall isn’t standard white, peel off a small tiny colour swatch (about the size of a penny) and take it to the paint store to get colour matched. Home Depot colour matches for free and a sample pot is less than $10.
I've had these, only problem is the bump outs are hollow air pockets, so cutting them leaves an open gap. gluing it might work but I think that would make the shape a little awkward and might mess up the flow
@Patricia Rainey not cut out every tile, but cut out the half tiles on the ends so you can mesh pieces together, like puzzle pieces. The way she painted the grout around the half tiles draws attention to the fact that the tiles are different sizes and makes it look even more fake.
@@WildThyme69 Patricia is correct about them getting ruined because these are hollow and I mean they come from dollar tree... that means their retail value is 1$.... their wholesale value is about 20 cents per pack so if you tried to make the1m staggered like a dove tail joint /interlocking puzzle you would ruin their structural integrity and I have these so I feel like some of the sticker paper will fall off too since it had nothing to keep it sealed to the faux brick... but if you were going to attach them a different way the puzzle joints would definitely make them look more real/natural!!!
Instead of cutting them, you could fill the gap between the half-tiles with caulk & paint over them. I think you would have to mount them first for that to work, so it might be a bit harder to do the painting & gloss finish on the wall instead of a table or counter, but I think the result would look better.
I’d be afraid those adhesive backs would mess up the existing paint and the landlord would charge me. I certainly applaud your creativity…. Hope those affordable stickers don’t cost you your deposit.
The adhesive is actually a cheap material so they don't really stick on permanently like the stronger adhesive strip. I want to do something like this for my bathroom backslash. I've seen some really creative DIYs on here and their removal demonstrations was actually really easy. 😊
I came to say as a former maintenance tech of an apartment complex; cleaning up residue of glue/adhesive things like this usually involves having to mud a little to blend the layers of paint that get peeled off. The cheap stuff isn't so bad, but people all think "let's use "EASY REMOVE" 3M strips instead of nails! They'll thank us when they paint!.... Seriously, just use nails. On the other hand, another comment says specifically that these don't stick THAT well, so maybe not an issue. Good luck folks!
I am a landlord of one rental and we want permission first. Just because you are renting doesn't give you the right to do whatever you want BUT the landlord needs to put that in the rental agreement
3M mounting tape for those white hooks r pretty good on the painted walls I’ve put them on. They hold until you pull the tab to release it and won’t damage the paint ... on the walls i’ve put them on. I don’t know how many years it’ll be before the adhesive becomes cement and a problem for clean up, but it’ll hold until you try to remove it 🤗
I love those but I’m scared I’m going to rip off the paint and then get charged for said paint peeling. We didn’t want to make holes in our last house, so we used mounting tape and when we were finally moving, the backing of the tape peeled off the paint from the wall 🥲 the paint was done very poorly anyway but it’s a fear of mine forever now.
@@poopoomcgee123 yes, but our friends were renting and had a tiny paint chip on the wall and they were charged an insane amount of money because their landlord said they “had to repaint the whole house now”. Not sure if that’s legal or if it’s just morally wrong to do to a good, reliable renter, but it scares me about the walls now too. Our last house we lived in, we got lucky because it was a military base but now we’re living off base so it just makes me nervous
@@poopoomcgee123 I just moved a month ago due to my hubby getting a better job. We got charged $300 for a flake of paint coming off the wall due to a Command strip. The CAN ABSOLUTELY charge you for that.
Before removing any adhesive it really helps if you blow dry it or blast it with a heat gun for a bit it softens it up, if it leaves a bit of a sticky residue you can just use a magic eraser on it
I considered doing this but watched a few videos on removing these "tiles". Every single one took paint off, and not just tiny spots. The dollar store ones did the most damage to the wall. But even those that cost $10 and more did damage. They are absolutely NOT renter friendly.
these stick way better and last longer if you hit them with a hair dryer or heat gun for a few seconds before sticking. it's never taken off paint for me, but I've only removed them twice
For anyone complaining that the glue will pull of paint, wallpaper or drywall paper. It won't, when you remove it correctly Just heat the glue up with a hairdryer and wipe the remainings gently with IPA and it'll look as good as new
I lived in a house built in '39 and the bathroom had a pink tub with pink tile enclosure, 2 pink sinks, pink tile counter, a pink toilet, and pink tile floor. It was also a BIG bathroom. SO much pink.
Lol that is so true! I had an acquaintance who rented a home to tenants for several years. She made me extremely angry when she sat there and bragged about not replacing carpet, paint or anything else for years. Then, she had a tenant who had a dog who damaged some of the carpet, so this acquaintance of mine had no choice BUT to replace the carpet. But, get this: she made the tenant with the dog pay for it!! So, for all those years, this person rented the place out; never upgraded it; only has to pay property taxes once a year; made more than enough profit to upgrade the place then made her tenant pay to replace extremely old carpet used by who knows how many people in the past who had previously contributed to the wear and tear of the carpet. I was thinking that I wished I had enough money to buy a place to rent out. I wouldn't charge a renter for minor damages unless I the carpet has been recently replaced.
There's something satisfying about watching someone do projects that you alone have not tackled because you are watching someone else do their projects!
Hot tip adding things like this to splash backs can void insurance (if the glue melts from the heat of the stove and the tiles fall down and start a fire)
Saw these Dollar tree tiles on another channel one year later, peel and stick. They lifted after one year so I would use additional adhesive unless you want to change it often ...your kitchen looks nice !
as someone who grew up in a pink kitchen (counters, appliances, sink, etc - it was the 70s and 80s) i can't say i love the look of this. my mom HATED our kitchen, but just never got around to redoing it. but i do appreciate your initiative to personalize your space in a rental.
Thank you for telling me how to fix this. I got these they were horrible because they didn't match up correctly. I wasted so much money on this. I will try it to see how long it will last
Looks beautiful! When I go to our local store and find these sticker tyles, I look at the price and think "Wohoaa, that's almost as expensive as the real thing!". May as well go buy the real thing innit. I do appreciate your adventurous side though, it does look very nice!
Yeah I live in south Carolina and I shop at dollar tree at least once a week and of all the years I've been shopping there, I've never seen these. I would have already scooped them up lol
Small tip, landlords are supposed to have places repainted between residents anyway. Typically speaking I won't charge for paint, unless you actually damage drywall, your fine.
The end product came out perfectly! Congratulations on a job well done. I'm enjoying your channel very much, especially the renter friendly projects and DIY projects and let's not forget, anything that comes from Dollar Tree. 😁
As a land lord, if you want to do little things like this and it improves the house most of us with say yes and happily negotiate. So it's worth a try. One of my tenants wanted to swap the stepping stones in our back yard for a concrete path, we agreed and negotiated and we split the cost of materials. Most land lords would rather a tenant who wants to make the space their home rather than just somewhere to live.
I would love to see how you attach them to your wall. Mine split apart, and I don’t know how to get it to fit around an outlet. I don’t know why the back comes off so easily. Maybe it’s supposed to come off but I still don’t know how you attach it. Thanks. Great video.
@@Herefortheteaandfood these can peel off paint from my experience and some landlords / rental agency’s do not allow you to paint and you’ll be charged for damages
Fun fact! You'll destroy your walls when you go to remove those adhesive tiles. Painting the walls back to the original color would be far less expensive.
Very creative idea. Just be sure you match the right clear with the right paint. I tried spraying a red model car with a white lacquer paint and it turned pink within minutes.
