As central Indiana continues to be gripped by sub-freezing temperatures, area residents are searching for creative ways to stay warm in adverse conditions
Yeah I'm sitting here at home and I'm watching this. It's cold here too. I live in a camper. And I have heat. And I'm able to bring my dog inside along with my cats so they won't be cold. And for that I am thankful. Watching this just made me realize I have a lot to be thankful for.
It's cold, especially with that wind, my fingers started freezing within minutes, with some work gloves on. If your in a tent, they need to put a cover hanging from inside, that will help keep heat in. Maybe even a canvas on outside over the tent.
Hey nothing wrong with that.smart enough not to pay this out of this world rent so don't knock yourself.I want something like that later or just a small two bdr later.Funny how our ideas of life change after we get older and grow wisdom😊stay warm

If that dog goes to a shelter it'll be euthanized. people don't adopt bully breeds that are older. Show some compassion for the human being keeping this dog alive and from being skinny.
@@user-pe2rz5wb9p - The human beings are able to stay inside their tents with extra clothing and blankets to stay warmer than being outside where the Bully stays because it's his 'duty' to guard the camp. The humans will survive, the Bully may not, plus, he's a short-hair which doesn't provide much insulation when it gets this cold.
@@WarHawk- neither of us knows whether the dog stays inside or outside to guard the camp. I assume the might keep it in a tent to absorb the thermal mass. Probably cuddle that dog for warmth.
@@draco2xx right? Finally a sane person^^^ they need to Do something other than being an a hole on the internet. People don't understand how jam packed shelters are with dogs. People mostly adopt puppies and are scared of pitbulls.
@@stevenbaker7025 as a former homeless person who dug myself out of it, that dog doesn't have a choice. Funny that you would consider being an animal lover as a narcissistic trait. Go back to school.
@@WarHawk- you're right the dog has the choice to live in that tent (hopefully) or go to an overloaded shelter, not get adopted and be put down. I'm not saying a cold dog isn't devastating bc it is. You just have to be a realist of what will happen if animal control picks it up. It's life will most likely be a lot longer if it endures the cold with it's humans. The dog isn't super skinny so at least it's being taken care of. Obviously it shouldn't be outside in the elements but neither should the humans. My hope is they let it inside the tent when they are inside.
@@user-pe2rz5wb9p - That is what was bothering me is that the dog should not have been outside in the cold, especially being that is a a short-hair breed. I agree that dog shelters are out for him/her/it.
Their to busy giving the illegal immigrants all the care and free everything. They come first way before our own homeless Americans and homeless veterans.
I'm not sure what the man interviewed wants anyone to do. He and his wife won't go to a shelter, so the only other alternative seems to be the tent - unless they want hotel accommodations. When I saw the temperature in the renters' home read 65, I thought to myself, "That's what we keep ours set at night." 68 during the day. Electric space heaters are so dangerous. Their landlord does need to fix the heat. And someone needs to rescue that poor dog!
Same here in the southern Appalachians. Plenty of shelters but they don't want to follow the rules. They have plenty of resources to get alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, iphones, large dogs, tattoos and piercings but somehow they're victims and those who have made good choices , denied themselves many things and worked all their adult lives are the oppressors. I worked at a soup kitchen cooking breakfast a few years ago and the clientele was mostly very thankful and honestly a pleasure to be around. That started changing rather quickly about a decade ago. The people got younger, confrontational and frequently violent. The facility closed and the leftists were outraged. Oh well.
I don’t understand 65 degrees being a great disaster. Owner does need to fix the furnace. Certainly you need to wear extra clothing but most can do ok in 65 degrees.
The reporter acting like its no big deal that this dog is shivering & at risk. This is cruelty to animals. If these ppl loved it ,the dog wouldnt be suffering in the cold. Wuay inhimane ppl. This is heartbreaking !
Could be worse….. temperatures here in Wyoming have been from -40 to -20 below and I sure don’t have anyone buying me propane. I’m living in a cheap rv so I’m a step above a tent but barely. Regardless I hope and pray the cold passes soon…… for everyone.
@@Notmep ya well I’d rather live in the middle of nowhere while society is in free fall then to be in the middle of the shit storm like all you city dwellers. The dog needs warm weather gear and if the owner plans on keeping him with him keep him in the tent… as for the people hopefully they get an upgrade… for the dogs sake of course 😉(jk incase anyone didn’t get that)
No matter the reason ,my heart goes out to those who are homeless, I was on my way there but grace stepped in an my situation got better, praying you can lk out for thers , share your heat and get that dog inside hes freezing and his feet are probably raw, not used to this extreme cold
You know we failed as a society when if you see a stray dog you would show it love and nurture. Hell you might even give it food. But once you see a homeless person, you don't even acknowledge them. Thats so fuked up
At the very least, someone, Fox59, ANYONE get that dog a nice thick warm sweater. The very least. The reporters exploit these folks then do nothing to help. Someone please have a heart!
It's as bad as filming a train wreck that you could have prevented it not for the need to 'capture' the 'footage.' Talking about the dog's suffrage within earshot of the dog makes sure the newscasters are seen as heroes in the dog's eyes. Ummmmmm..... Or does it? Shoddy reporting. Shitty makeshift residence. My heart breaks, especially when I think of elderly people living all alone freezing to death in their homes because they can't afford to have heat. Sadly, this is a yearly occurrence. I CANNOT, however, feel any sympathy whatsoever for people who would make their dog "stand guard" SHIVERING outside in the freezing cold while they are able to at least wear warm clothing and have some shelter in their tent. That's extremely WICKED and HEARTLESS! That poor dog keeps lifting its paw off the ground because it hurts from frostbite! Why the heck haven't the news reporters reached out to one of the local animal shelters to come and remove that dog?
I live in an RV and it's currently -27. I have 2 space heaters going along with my RV's propane heater. I am wearing a sweater, 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of long johns and am "still" cold. I honestly cannot imagine being outside for more than about 15 minutes.
I was outside for 15 minutes, you get used to it after 15 minutes, but you need good warm gloves, if not your finger tips will start freezing in pain. But that wind is what makes it so cold.
Getting ready to go to work will be out in it all day. So whats your point? Yes I have a warm home to go to when I'm done, I work for that every day. Get a job, Biden says we have millions.
We have a camper, ALL our electric went out....we survive by hanging heavy wool blankets over large windows , made a partition to hold heat toward bed area. It was chilly inside but we did well. We were not cold maybe chilly but had really warm sleeping bags and wool blankets with a space heater. We did well. You can survive on less than the media makes you think. Wait until the power goes out or gets hacked... everyone will panic and there will be chaos in the streets. This just helps us prepare for what is to come. And when it arrives we will be ready.
People out there wear coats, but no coat for the shivering dog. Short hair dogs have little protection against the cold. I cannot imagine how he even sleeps shivering like that. He must be exhausted.
I’m not happy that they’re homeless and suffering but I can’t fix it, that being said the couple who’s house was at 65° saying it’s too cold I think 65° is more than doable. I live in a house that’s 65° inside and 0° outside and it’s a blessing as far as I’m concerned 🤷♂️
@@user-pe2rz5wb9p They have a choice and don't tell me they don't. They CAN go to a warming center. Whatever their reasons are, they are CHOOSING to stay outside. We are supposed to feel sad that his house temperature is 65F? That's 17C. My kitchen is 14C during the day, if it's a warm day, these days, and 14C isn't bad at all. It only felt too cold to work when it was like 7C during the night.
@@bmolitor615not weird at all, I rarely turn heat on, it'd have to drop to 60 inside for my furnace to kick on, my AC routinely gets set at 64-65, it's 49 outside right now and my windows are open. The heat almost never gets used in the deep south, but I have also lived in North Dakota and my roommates would set the heat to 68 which drove me nuts especially at night trying to sleep.
And you'd be right. They choose to buy drugs rather than to pay rent. Pure propaganda here. Feel bad for a crackhead. They'll never solve a problem they're getting paid for.😮
People can change their circumstances but the dogs and other animals are along for the ride. A dog can’t tell you it’s about to freeze to death, it just fuckin dies..
I lived in Chicago in my van for 6 years once I graduated high school in the 1970,s I know what it's like and I learned to get by and you can make it work but it's challenging. I have many days and weeks of sub zero temps every year , I was finally able to save enough to buy a small cheap home and have been here every since,
To be honest, this has always been my worst nightmare. Not the cold it's self, but to be homeless. I have so much to be thankful for. My mobile home will be paid for next month. I've had many close calls . It's not fancy, it's been through many homeless, dumped cats and dogs, the central heat and air doesn't work ( I use a space heater) but I have four walls and a roof! God bless these people. I know they have it rough. No one in the States should be homeless when we are housing and feeding illegals that cross our borders illegally. So disappointed in our Government. These are people that have worked here, paid their taxes and DESERVE assistance. Something is terribly wrong in our Country..
Not to mention over a hundred billion dollars in taxpayer money wasted in Ukraine and billions more wasted everywhere. $150 billion a year spent on the illegals. Unbelievable!
I've got an insulated, elevated outdoor shelter for the stray/feral kitty I feed, and I've got it packed with plenty of dry straw for it to nest in. And to hear people complain about 65⁰ indoors is kinda strange, considering that I've got my house thermostat SET at 60⁰! There are starving children in Siberia who would sacrifice a LIMB for 45⁰+ degrees!!! Now, the homeless people outside in like 5⁰? THEY have a reason to complain! But 65⁰? C'mon!
Their complaint was that at 65 inside they determined as parents it's too cold for their kids to be there. They just described the conditions and how they are heating. I didn't consider that complaining. Just my observation.
OMG, thank you for saying it, these people are nuts in some of these comments my furnace is set to 60, it's never kicked on and if it does I'd probably turn it down it's 49 here right and my window is open with a fan on my thermostat shows 68 but it's probably close to 60 in my bedroom with the window open, it's comfortable.
I don't feel sorry for the people, as an ex-homeless person who has dealt with worse cold, I can tell you all they are using their resources to get their next drug fix and ignoring the real priorities like heat, food, and shelter. The dog is helpless in this situation. If the dog could it would probably make better choices then these humans, these people are choosing this then expecting people to care, maybe stop the drugs? The dog is the only thing I was worried about or cared about in this entire video. If the humans freeze to death its literally what they chose.
No one deserves to die on the streets, or get assaulted. No, they don't deserve luxury apts, but at least a pod with locking door and heat in a monitored lot.

The temps in my cottage are just as low; and in the evening I turn on the electrical heater to increase it a little bit before going to bed. I bought a sleeping bag for -20 ....lol... I'm toasty warm sleeping now :)
News Crew do an update on how you advised the camp resident dog 'owner' about animal neglect laws, and maybe even provided them with some kind of shelter for the dog silently suffering through your segment.
Omg what is wrong with these people...they have a dog out standing guard in the below 0 temperatures. That poor dog was shivering and holding his little paw up because it was cold. That is animal abuse. Bring that poor baby in the tent and warm it up. Shane on you. You are going to wake up and not have a dog anymore because it will have frozen to death! 💔🥺

Are they? It's not going to stay alive for very long being that cold! It's a painful way to die. If the homeless people where even a little decent they would bring the dog in the tent with them. The reason I live in a nice home is I have been working since I was 12 I’m now 62 and still working every day 😊 Nothing is guaranteed in life. If you work hard you will be rewarded😊
Why are they allowed to break laws and do what they please, but I can’t build a fence without a building permit-or have a dog without properly caring for it? Why are responsible people penalized, and other people get a free ride?
@AM-uh7mv Most people immediately rush to virtue signal and claim one has no empathy. However, it’s my opinion that they only do this with shallowness and not really thinking about the situation. From what I’ve encountered, if you ask them to get involved and sacrifice their own money or property all of a sudden they have a different mindset. They only want YOU to have empathy when they don’t need to commit to anything. I’m guessing that if some homeless lowlifes moved in next to your house and started smoking crack, hollering at 3 AM drunk, or throwing their trash in your yard you would have a different attitude towards it. I’ve had that happen. Have you ever had some homeless person walk into your yard and piss on your hard work while drunk-right in front of you? I happen to live in a city where homeless have been trying to sleep in city parks and other areas, and they’ll curse you and take a dump right in front of you. They have zero respect for the community. They throw their trash on the ground, try to intimidate people, ignore the laws and authorities, and do whatever they please. They think that “homeless” is some entitlement to come in and live in the community without any responsibility or obligation to follow the rules. Our city happens to have three shelters-well stocked with volunteers and resources, but they DON’T allow drug use or alcohol consumption. Therefore, you have these people who refuse their help and decide that they’re going to thumb their nose at the community and live under a tarp and do what they please. Is it really empathy to allow that to go on, or is it enabling their behavior? Please educate yourself on what these people really are like instead of simply virtue signaling other’s to “have empathy” as an easy feel-good response for something I’m guessing you know nothing about firsthand. If you had to put up with them in your backyard I’m sure you would feel differently.
The reporter says “while YOU’RE home tonight staying warm” instead of “while I’m home tonight staying warm”. He immediately tried to get you and not himself.
I live in a city, but I made sure I took my children into the country and taught them how to make a fire/shelter/rope ladder, etc. I'm so glad I did because look what's happened over the years...

Where I live they have shelters that are men and women. When its lights out you have to separate. We also have a building for code blue 20 degrees or lower. This has men and women in the same room. The 1 shelter actually allowed someone to keep their cat. For these people its a choice. Sometimes you have to do what's needed to survive.
I feel bad for the dog & kids. They can’t help living like that. The woman that gave her kids to their grandmother did the right thing. The owner of that dog needs to surrender the dog to ASCPA. Unacceptable 😖😢👎🏽
If advocates have been trying to help them get off the cold streets, then why was this video even made when it was their choice to be out there? While even leaving that poor shivering dog outside in those harsh elements... The dog would know if an intruder was outside from inside their enclosure, so place the dog inside where it's warm. 🥶
They show the stark contrast between the haves and the have nots at the beginning of the video. But there are no real answers by the end of the video. The people are homeless freezing struggling but they refused to go to shelters.
