The lyrics are a little over-the-top and heavy-handed - but Kevin really sells it - he means every word, he’s feeling it, and he makes the listener feel it too. That’s what it’s all about.
You may not be old enough - but REO Speed-wagon was ready to break up and call it quits. Sooooo many fan letters (mine included) poured in the band carried on and sells out most every place they go. THE MUSIC SET THE TONE FOR THE 1970’s and 1980’s right beside bands like Van Halen…. Look who’s still rolling with the changes. NEVER GIVE UP - NEVER SAY DIE. Roll with it.
First of all I loved Gary. If you love REO, you have to love Gary. But Davey has been playing w this band for 30 years! He has never tried to disrespect Gary in any way. I think after 30 years he has more than earned our respect and admiration. Rock on Davey!! 🎸🎸
the "new" guitar player does an admirable job but he's not real replacement, gary richrath had a lot of flare and could tear it up on the les paul and make it look easy, he gave this song energy that is unmatched, as decent as this version is, and its good, for sure, its not magical like with gary, its just trying to copy what gary did and his sound was unique.
Amato just covering Gary's iconic licks, string bends and chirps. They will always belong to Gary. No one else. Cronin trying to keep the money machine rollin'. Cronin ... when you kicked Gary outta the band you killed REO and became a sad nostalgia act.
this is for Bob, my first love from high school, we were to get together today, Oct 6, but he passed away this week before I could get to him. RIP Bob.
Still prefer REO ... Kevin is just a fantastic frontman, a great work ethic, amazing performer and a guy with a lot of confidence and passion for music. I’d love to meet him, he seems such a humble guy.
Forget about personnel changes. This band truly is REO Speedwagon in every sense. Sure, Richrath is gone, but Amato has preserved the REO sound magnificently. Let the man do his job. The current lineup has been at it for over a decade and they are fantastic. Amazing how good you can sound after doing this for 40 years, isn't it? Let's see a boy band duplicate that.
Probably my favorite REO tune…the play out at the end is awesome. That organ solo has to be one of the best and most iconic Hammond solos ever in rock music and it leads into an equally good guitar piece.
They ended every concert with this tune... I saw them in Charlavoix Michigan when I was a sophomore in high school... and I was screaming as loud as I could and Kevin was my king.
@@MsCordially Says the ignorant. Bass player here - not as simple or easy as you might believe. But never let facts get in the way of your ignorant statements. LOL
@@matthew4694 stop it! You're so lucky! I love REO Speedwagon so much! I got You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish on vinyl as a present for my 16th birthday this year. Roll With the Changes is my favorite song off that album. That, Time For Me to Fly, Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight, Sing to Me, and Blazin Your Own Trail Again are my favorites from the album.
Saw these guys Live in 2011 in WI and paid 5 bucks for a ticket.....beer was about four bucks for 20oz. Great show and Great Beer made a great night!!!
I think Kevin's voice still sounds just as good as he did back in the 80's. This song sounded good with the new lead, but Gary was good as well. RIP Gary.
Sad to see these artists getting old and not being able to hit the notes like they used to... Bon Jovi, Tyler, the late Brad delp. Its life I know. Its just sad. maybe Im just getting old too!
I was there too. Met the band after a gig in Orlando 2006 (orlando Bike Week) which was brill and said I'd seen them in Belfast in 85 and Bruce and Neal laughed and said they do remember it as it seemed as small as a boxing ring! Ha ha Was a fantastic show as always . like your site
I love this very energetic performance, but when I heard Kevin scream "The people who can taste my sweat" at the end for the first time, I died laughing; I didn't expect those words to come out of his mouth!
REO, Styx, Kiss and all these old time rockers still paly to full houses every time. Even after over 40 years this kind of Rock and Roll is till the best. Grew up in central Illinois and remember going to Champaign to listen to these guys. Many trips to Alpine Valley during the 70"s. This music will never die.
Awesome job guys especially the vocals unless you are a singer and I mean a real singer who performs you have no idea what it takes out of you to still sound so good is a testament to looking after yourselves and your voices :-)
+MrMrfreedom1 it's hard to beat the sunburst finish on the Les Paul!! Daves has the extra creaminess of the tiger stripe pattern as well,,,, an absolutely epic guitar!!!
Never get tired of this song!!! " If youre tired of the same ole story, ohhhh, turn some pages..." perfect life quote but with loud guitar and drums..doesnt' get it better than that.
God I hate how people give Dave Amato so much crap about the solos on this song but if he played it the exact same people would still complain how he is stealing Gary's solo's sorry guys but Gary wanted to drink more than he wanted to be in REO. Dave is still an amazing guitar player and Bryan Hitt is an amazing drummer. They sound amazing you try being in your 50s and 60s and preforming for thousands of people every night REO still and always has sounded amazing and they all, past and present members know how to rock!!!!
My wife and I seen these guy's last year. Amazing band. SOLD OUT SHOW in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio. I seen this band in the 70's and 80's they still sound incredible. Can't say that about today's music now can you. Keep rockin on dudes, I am turning 52 this year.
steely Dan and I thank you the opportunity to make changes "Babylon Sister" who really is a man. 12/13 - Happy Birthday to you! Can't wait till I get see you again. the improved version that you know I will be
This opus contains one of the most intense, full of virtuosity organ solo I have ever heard. The guitar solos are masterpiece quality too.The vocals are very well complemented by the music.Very good song!
I hear you brother!!! The acts now days will be burnt out in a few years..........I saw these guys for the first time 30 years ago, and saw them again last year!!!
Yes, this to me, is one of the best rock songs of all time. However, Kevin's voice, as with all us old timers, has grown thin. I mean no disrespect to REO I love them. Keep performing as long as you can make a living doing it. That is what it comes down to for old rockers who have dedicated their lives to the ART!
I dunno about the best of all time. For me there are 5-6 in contention but I agree "today", this is the best kick-ass rnr song of ALL TIME. :) LOVE this track. Bought the You Can Tuna Fish album brand new in 78 n wore it out. The 8-track too! lol Thanks.
It seems Kevin's voice has really dropped off in recent years but they're still one of the best live acts in rock and roll. The staying power always lies within the music. The last time I saw them was two years ago. My wife didn't even bother this time. She went to a movie while I went to the gig and it turned out to be one of the best performances I'd ever seen them do. I had to rub it in!
My first REO concert was back in 1974. In the ensuing 38 years I have seen them live over 30 times and still look forward to the next time. In recent years they have toured with some other great 70s bands which makes it all the better. But for me it's still all about REO. I'll always love Gary's style (IMHO he is the most underappreciated guitarist of his generation), but I think Dave Amato is pretty darned great as well.
saw them in a triple header at the montreal forum with nazareth and journey. they were the highlight of the show Kevin had the voice that night. Will always remember the show from1985.
Lot of criticism here from folks,, yet that arena looks packed!!! I think that says a lot about REO. Complaints about Kevins voice, or Gary not with them anymore or Bruce needing to lose weight. The fact is, they've been doing this for 40 plus years. Kudos "Wagon,,,, keep on rocking!!!!!!!
WOOO. GOD KNOWS I LOVE ME SOME ROCK N ROLL....THESE GUYS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ON TOP OF MY LIST..there still selling out concerts each time they come down here there sold out before i can get tickets.. but hey im not giving up... one day we will be there.
