So. The technical answer is no. As in there is not switch to flip so it’s recording all the time. But this thing practically records 24/7 to the card. The new Duo works the same way. So it’s possible it will miss something but my card is pretty much just the last couple of days before it overwrites.

@@SlackerLabs I just came to the same exact number few hours ago! :) It took me a while to understand that my missed detections where due to the 6sec delay between motion_detection and correct frame. Thx for the great tutorial!
I need to do an updated video. I’ve just been using the home assistant app on phones for it lately and it’s been good. Haven’t needed to use a second option yet.
Thanks for this video , it helped me with my decision to buy a Reolink for my HA environment. In your wrap-up you mentioned Wyze cams used with Doods. Since I also own a couple of Wyze cams (v2 and v3) I wonder how you managed to add these into HA? Cheers
You have to flash them with the RTSP firmware. I'm not sure if Wyze is going to keep putting out that specific firmware, and it does mean you lose access to their cloud services, but for now it allows you to have completely local wyze cams.
Great vids man, just a question. I have a dvr and it adds the main camera. When I try to add the other channels via ffmpeg, it doesn’t matter how many cameras I add and channels, it only allows one more camera?
@SlackerLabs curious if you have your Arlo cameras integrated into Home Assistant? I'd like to be able to use one of my cameras as a motion sensor to turn on an outdoor light during the night. Any ideas if it's doable to add a camera and make it a motion sensor in HASS? Thanks!
Yes, I do. I use the Arlo Camera Support integration from HACS. It's really good, and it gives you a motion sensor, battery sensor, sound sensor, and signal strength for your cameras. There are a couple of other features as well. And I have automations that trigger based on motion and if its dark turn on the lights near by to help with the recording. The only thing that isn't real useful is Home Assistant notifies you of motion, but you dont see the new clip until it has stopped recording. You can click on the feed in the UI and get live view though.

@@techtim I'll work on getting an arlo integration video done too. Its been on my list. Actually Ive been thinking about trying to do shorter integration how-tos on Wednesdays and longer/more in depth videos on Saturdays. So this might work for that.
I can’t get it to show live and when I click on the entity for preview it also doesn’t show live. I’m on iOS and I’ve also tried android any ideas on how to fix?
hmm. I never noticed a problem, but of course as soon as I saw this comment I tried on my iphone and it didn't load, or at least I gave up before it did. But then I tried again after letting the dog out and it worked. iPad seems to load it faster than the iphone. Does it show the live few in your web browser?
@@SlackerLabs on browser it says you need Adobe flash player but there is no support for it anymore. The app seems to work completely fine and I tried to edit the configuration.yaml and add it as an ip camera but that also didn’t work.
I would like it to work with home assistant because I have the camera facing towards my driveway so if a car comes down I can set up an automation to do something.
@@kyle2055 I think we may be talking about two different things. I was suggesting opening your home assistant instance in a web browser on a desktop computer. I just didn't clarify it. Trying to see if the issue was the mobile app or the lovelace widget itself. You shouldnt need adobe to see the live preview as far as I know unless you are trying to connect to the camera via reolinks interface. I'm not sure why its not showing you the live preview though. I suspect it may just be a HA version issue, or even a HACS integration issue. But regardless you shouldnt need the live preview to work for Home Assistant to send alerts. Did you get a motion sensor with the reolink integration? And does it turn on when you walk in front of the camera?
@@SlackerLabs I was talking about when you type in the cameras IP address into the browser and viewing it live from there but that doesn’t work anymore because you need Adobe flash. But when I go to the home assistant instance on a browser it also still doesn’t work. I’m also running home assistant on a virtual machine on windows and I also didn’t install hacs by the integration because it would get stuck at the installing screen so I just added hacs to the configuration.yaml. Motion detection does work but I want to get the notification and be able to go to home assistant and see who had come.
