*There is a decent amount of comments about ghosting... here is an addendum video that I made to provide context* -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-46Igrdt8BW4.html
Reolink has the the worst customer support, they will engage with you as long as they can convince you that their product has no fault, but the moment it becomes clearer that the product is actually faulty & needs repair or replacement the Reolink support disappears in thin air.
Reolink seriously need to fix their image ghosting at night. Renders their entire range of cameras almost completely useless for recording anything that moves... Which is basically the whole point of what you want the camera to record....Moving things/people.
Ghosting at night.. I need to make a separate video on this.. but this is just because there is not enough light.. I do have to show this in the review. with no spotlights ON..but in real life use case, in my backyard setup, I need to set it in Auto or Smart mode so that the spotlights are ON but just enough to provide some lighting and minimizing ghosting.
@@LifeHackster Would be good if you can get some technical video folks from one of these companies on to talk about why that happens. I suspect it is because of how they work, only updating pixels that they see move meaning they don't see the entirety of the moving object on every pixel meaning they previous and current image are mixed together, but that is just a guess. If the guess is accurate though, I'd like to know why they don't have an algorithm that looks at the outside edge of the moving thing and assume everything with in it must be moving and so don't leave any old pixels within that border.
Considering how confusing their website is, I think everyone could benefit from a comparison. I had no idea what I was looking at when shopping their store, so I didn't buy anything. I ended up with a Eufy, which I quickly boxed back up and returned because the audio was worse than my gen 1 Wyze cam.
In all of your night time testing, have you ever run a test comparing your images with your neighbors lights shining and not shining over the fence? I wonder if those lights shining directly into the cameras does not somehow effect the exposure? Perhaps some of the cameras compensate by reducing the exposure? A back to back test with their lights on verses off would be interesting . Excellent reviews.
I've had several different Reolink cameras. I wouldn't buy another. I was really happy with them..... at first. The trouble is they don't last. My Argus 2 lasted just over a year before the replaceable battery died. But, they don't sell a replacement. The battery in my Argus 3 died. That's an inbuilt battery so the whole camera is dead. I've also got an indoor Reolink PTZ camera. It's a couple of years old and the microphone has stopped working. Their cameras are great out of the box. They just don't last.
Hey, what’s your opinion against the eufy e330 ? From yours video it seems that the quality is better here. Also what’s your thoughts on eufy vs reolink system in general in terms of security, I saw that eufy had a lot of troubles ? And of course thanks for all the content you made, honestly it’s really great to see so much detailed reviews, I get interested recently to instal some cameras on my house and your video helps a lot.
We purchased the eufy solar cams wireless. The picture quality, the app, the options on the app are all wonderful! But the misses are just too many. It will record a leaf blowing but not the huge UPS truck. So it's basically not doing its main job. So frustrating because I love everything else about it. We will be returning them and I am doing the research on what we should do next.
your welcome LH. this new cx810 was worth the wait. right now I'm doing a quick setup comparison test with my cx810 on the 2nd floor window sill facing my driveway and street in a similar viewing position as my 810a. it looks weird from outside with a camera on my window but its easier than having to get the extension ladder and swap cameras high up constantly. I have a few other places with no ambient light in the backyard I also want to try before replacing the 810a. 1 day so far its looking good with the new cx810. with hdr on shadows are not as dark compared to 810a.
Hey @LifeHackster, can you do a review of the Tapo C720 Floodlight? Or maybe you already have and I've just missed it? I didn't see it on a quick review of your channel and searching for Tapo. I'm really interested in all their cameras and just curious your thoughts on this one in particular.
Guess it doesn't make any sense to pre-order anything from Reolink these days if it hits Amazon first :) . Nice review as always. They need to design a true starlight sensor camera that doesn't require supplemental lights. But I agree price to quality and function is hard to beat.
@@LifeHackster I received mine. Plugged them into my network switch (not the NVR) and they auto added to the NVR but I can't get to their webpage to directly manage the camera itself without the NVR which doesn't allow me to do much with the camera settings. Any idea what I can do?
would like a wider field of view for sure, and the low light feature also in a dual lens, turret and dome cameras as others have said. maybe see what it looks like in another video with the front porch light on and the camera lights off.
My 410 needs some ambient light to cut out the ghosting. The frame rate gets really low in a dark situation causing the ghosting. Still waiting for the PTZ model. Great review as always.
Great review! Please also review the Tapo C720 floodlight camera. Tapo has announced it last year but been quiet. Then all of a sudden, it showed up in Amazon very recently. There are almost no reviews of it at all yet.
Looking at your review of the CX810 the camera seems to still suffer from the terrible audio quality that the CX410 does ... i thought Reolink would have addressed this ... clearly not
I also would like to see a side by side comparison of CX810, CX410W, Wyze V3, Wyze V4, and (off label use) Viofo A139 PRO Starvis 2 as a security cam (you have 12v power supplies 😊 )(or any starvis2 dashcam). All in the same low lighting as shown in this video, spotlights off. All at the same time. Thanks for the videos.
Can you make a video comparing the Reolink CX810 to the Reolink RLC-1212A? They both seem somewhat similar and I’d like to see if it’s worth upgrading for better night vision. Thanks!
Watching you from Australia. CX810 are not yet available here, but I ordered one from Amazon US. I'm putting together my first security cam system based on Reolink 16ch NVR and I'm currently looking for a 12"--16" wall-mounted touch screen display to work with Reolink NVR. Would you have some suggestions please? Thanks in advance - Maciek
I got a CX810 but i actually don't like it. Its night performance is nowhere near as good as the CX410. I might actually return my 810 and put the 410 back up.
Is CX810@10Hz or CX410@15hz better to record around the house? I want to pair Synology DVA1622 with up to 8 cameras. There is 120Hz recording limit for 5M and 80Hz limit for 4K.
I don't have PoE at the location I need a good camera. What is an alternative? I have 110 v available. Record to SD card or wireless to my home router. Not cloud and no DVR.
Great review! The ghosting issue at night is really bad on the CX810. It sounds like the garbled audio issue may have been fixed. As a current owner of (6) CX410 cameras, I don't see much of a difference going from 2K to 4K resolution to justify the upgrade. If any of my CX410 cameras fail, I would upgrade to the CX810. The HDR feature is available on the CX410, but when I turn it on, I get interlace bands scrolling so I keep it off. I also noticed that Reolink added the Device Notification Ringtones to the CX410 but it only allows selection based on Urgent, Important, and General. It doesn't allow you to choose ringtone sounds. It would be nice if they can update the CX410 to allow sounds so I can tell which camera are alerting without looking at the camera in the app. IMO, Reolink does an excellent job at improving their products and software without charging for a subscription.
I think there is a difference on no spotlight footage between the CX410 and CX810.. I have to compare this side by side soon...but I know a lot of people are complaining about ghosting but it is just because there is not enough light.. in real life use, you would set this to auto or smart mode where the built in spotlights will provide supplemental lighting.
@@LifeHackster a comparison video between the cx410 and cx810 would be a good idea. The cx410 seems to have better low light performance because reolink didn't increase the sensor size on the cx810, which means it has smaller and less sensitive pixels. Sensor size should have been increased from 1/1.8 to 1/1.2.
I am kind of disappointed in the CX410 and CX810. You really need a decent amount of lighting in the recorded area unless you want a really dark and grainy image. They advertise it as needing no light and a lot of owners try to say the same thing and this is not the case. I understand yes I can leave the spotlights on but you could do that with any other camera as well, plus I know I am not the only one that does want nearly a dozen camera spotlights running all night long.
any color night vision camera requires some light to function properly. With that being said, I feel this one is a step back. Hikvision definitely is much better than this.
That is not how they are advertised and how everyone tries to make out online. If you do not have significant lighting, more than just a street, within 50ft then you will end up with a really dark and grainy image.
With the CX series, you don't need a lot or too bright of spotlights to get better image at night. All other regular sensor cameras of Reolink that have built in spotlights, except for the 823A, you will get ghosting beyond 20 feet.... check this video out -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4JEatkWI4Ms.html
I've watched that before but it proves my point that CX cameras need more light then what everyone seems to suggest. I have Wyze floodlights that make the CX410s look good at only 25% brightness when they are activated. I also have some solar lights to help supplement light. To my original point though, the quality of these without stuff like that is never mentioned anywhere. This is straight from Reolink "ColorX Night Vision: True full-color night vision in low light without spotlights", that is very misleading in my opinion. Don't get me wrong overall I like my Reolink system but the CX cameras are misleading. I have 10 Reolink and 10 Wyze cameras, they both have their perks and disadvantages which is why I like to have different brands and the poe/wifi part as well.
Low light seems to be best for closer view over a big wide view… I get inferred has its problems, red lights sticking out, bugs triggering the motion and bright when it’s close to something = Cameras are all about seeing, low light is very neiche
You are talking about the one with the spotlights OFF? This is just to show..but In real life setup, you will set it to auto or smart mode….which the lights will be lit just enough to have better quality footage. Just see how dark it is in my backyard…any other camera will just be black and low light cams will have ghosting and motion blur.
How are these professional grade cameras sucking so much at night... before you say "it's not bad" you are blurry as hell at 20 feet. that's not okay. If I knew you had reolink, I'd know how to defeat it.
Hi LifeHackster, I love love love your reviews as always. There is a lot to like about this camera and Reolink is really on their game. It seems like they have also really refined all the setting in the software. One area they won't win any rewards on is audio quality of the recorded events. The smallest of wind sound like a major thunder storm and because of that it was almost impossible to understand what you were saying at time. I will probably own this product soon.
I watched this wanting a comparison with cx410 as I'm thinking cx410 will be better - larger pixels means more light... but no comparison so as cx410 and 810 are otherwise identical, this was a waste of everyone's time... got you the views though 😞
Ugh, I was hoping the audio quality would be better. I just can't switch from my gen 1 Nest cams until someone actually cares as much about audio as they do video. Seriously, how do you not make a mic that accounts for wind? These camera companies are all completely useless for audio.
And yes, audio is just as important as video. I have caught a couple of bad vendors working on my house with the audio from my Nest Cams. Those two instances saved me hundreds of dollars. This audio wouldn't be admissible in court.
@@LifeHackster is the audio as clear as the Nest cams when not windy? I can hear people talking from across the street with my Nests. Very important that the audio is clear and that voices aren't overly-compressed.
@@RomvnlyPlaysit’s actually not. And vp9 is older hence why vp1 is replacing it. That being said the quality is bad. Price wise okay, but it’s not great. Often wonder why they don’t use something like a starvis 2 in their low light. That bandwidth is low. Period.
@@LifeHacksterfigured. It wouldn’t matter if it was exporting in prores - low bandwidth, less info from sensors bad quality footage. Day light looks okay but 30/40 feet away should be somewhat clear.
I have to show it without the spotlights ON...any camera with that low light will have ghosting..that's just how it is even with video and cinema cameras...anyways, you will set this to auto or smart mode in real life use which as you see just more than enough light to have good footage at night.
Yup... but in normal real use you have to have the supplemental lights in Auto or Smart mode. Any camera, well with regular sensor, it is not going to be a ghost because you would not see me at all... but with low light cams, there will be ghosting if there is not enough light.
I've just took delivery of a CX810 as I'm looking to upgrade my my old Hikvision mini bullets to move from IRCut to colour. I'd heard nothing good about REOLINK cameras except from paid shills and VINE reviewers. My own first Impressions of this camera are not favourable, I don't know what the fuss is with this camera it performs WORSE than my 7 year old Hikvision cams. Stuttering and frame skipping are an absolute joke, as are the lack of settings available, no H264 support (so don't even think about using frigate), the web interface has no fine tuning of anything, I was actually shocked at how basic this camera is for the amount it costs. I'll be returning it with haste, and would not recommend it.
@@LifeHackster Did Reolink sponsor this video ? @8.53 You say this is the best wired IP POE camera to date. Not in my testing it isn't (very far from it) there's some serious issues with these cameras that aren't just limited to the appalling stream stutter. A quick look at other reviews online and there's a lot of people returning them (including me) so at least be honest and say that you got these to review.
Forget about the horrible image quality at night.. even the image quality in the day on this camera SUCKS!!! Fake HDR that just artificially cheats by lowering the contrast which any cam. can do. The picture quality is muddy, blurry, blown out highs and crushed shadows and has halos. It looks like a low quality CMOS web camera from 15 years ago. The older E1 Pro indoor with the 1/1.27" 2K sensor looks vastly superior to the CX810's sensor.
Hey ALL CAPS guy, did I say in the video that I got paid? "PROBABLY" is not going to cut it if you are accusing me of getting paid. I'm seeing you have been commenting and bad mouthing Reolink..so tread lightly. SPAMMING my channel is what I'm seeing... and it is not probably...
