Found this old camera in our basement today. That was my dads. Mum wanted to throw it out already but i found a way to turn it on and even saw lots of photos from back when my parents were younger lol, now im there discovering the settings and taking photos of my dog. I can say thats my first camera ever :)

Bend out the little metal tabs on the door of the battery compartment with a pin until they unleash from the door (one end of the tab will release if you pull hard enough and that is what you want with both tabs)

If the camera's old it might be a bad capacitor or something, but it's probably surface mounted in a compact camera like this so it would be hard to replace. It could be a loose soldered connection but such a fault would more likely result in random shutdowns rather than a false low battery message. What's the MAH rating (Milli-amp-hours) on the batteries you're using? Those below 1500 may not work so well with high-current devices from my experience

i used 1.2 V 2200 mah rechargeable, but now (last week) whit regular battery its working ok for some reasson, must be couse they have higher mah or the rechargeble ones ware not that good as new. thx for reply u ware right. will see how it goes.

If your rechargeable batteries are really old they may not be holding charge very well, or increased internal resistance (on the batteries) with age may cause the battery voltage to "collapse" under load. When that happens, completely draining the battery (i.e. with a flashlight or fan, something non-electronic that won't shut down) may help, or replacing it may be necessary.

Well....I got it fixed, but it's a little strange and I'm still not entirely sure what may have happened. I had put 2 new sets of batteries in and even tested them with a meter and still have the same problem, but at one point the camera felt unusually warm so I thought I'd test them again. They were 1.38v. That is plenty for most gadgets, but I tried some that tested at 1.64v just in case, and now the camera is working! The meter was always green until right before it flickered off. Strange

forgive me for being stupid but i have a video camera i don't know what it's called but i have the same problem but i have 4 golden things to hold the battery im not sure if they're making contact but probably not, cuz it says low batery so fast, so what exactly do i do with those 4 golden things to connect with the battery do i push them out? cuz if i do much im afraid of breaking it =S sorry if im only saying this 1 year after the video, but if ur active please respond.

i have the same camera and same problem ( always low battery massage, want even start with just recharged ones from the battery charger), but unfortunaly this didnt work for me:(

An hour ago? If you've been using your camera for that long it's just genuinely low on battery. Another possible cause is that if you're using rechargeable batteries, the ones you have may be old and not working well any more

he just pulled up that small clips on the cap [ which we open to put the cells ] so as they come in contact with terminals of cells .... was that helpful ? ;) :)

At 0:56 look what comes out! Those batteries look as if they are corroded, or leaking. Increasing the spring pressure may have helped, lowering the contact resistance a tad, but try putting cells in there that aren't leaking. Moreover, the chemicals that leak from batteries will destroy the device they are in if it is left exposed to them. Alternatively, the camera may have been exposed to moisture - either way, bad news. Can't believe nobody saw this.

***** It is a Duracell battery for sure, we agree, but I don't think that they have ever come out with a new line called; "The Duracell Verdigris Special - Guaranteed To Work Silently To Destroy Your Hi Tech Equipment While You Leave It Discharged And Unobserved In A Drawer For Several Months!" Interesting battery sleeve design, wouldn't you say? O.K., I'm done with this thread. I honestly hadn't expected anyone to come back on this comment. If you really think that what I said isn't the case, why don't you go around to his house and the two of you can work on the 'green battery' until not much happens. Maybe you could try wasting a week or two trying to convince Duracell that someone is selling a green version of their battery on the black market. Have fun.

i use lithium batteries and it takes almost 300-400 this thing drinks all the batteries there is nothing wrong with the tabs

Thanks but about 900 shots into mine it suddenly just wouldn't power on at all - get orange light for a moment, lens doesn't extend. Trash now. Sudden; no user abuse. I realize that this may be just statistically one of only a few bad apples, but only Olympus and Minolta have failed prematurely like this for me. Guys, try to get your quality control failure rate closer to zero, but meanwhile I'm staying aways from your 2 brands.

I was really hoping this would fix it, but it didn't. I even just took a piece of aluminum foil and placed it across the entire metal pad, but nothing changed. I have the FE-46. Sometimes, letting it sit 'cold' with no batteries for awhile, like overnight, I can get a few pics before it acts up. It will show a full green indicator for the batt., and then briefly flash the low batt. symbol before shutting off. I think something else besides contacts is wrong with this thing.

this is just inverted. if the batteries of your camera did not find contact and thus the "electricity line" from + to - would be broken and that would mean that your camera would use ZERO amount of battery power, and actually here we have a solution which i found out earlier (im not a owner of this type of camera, just googling it and found out about bad reviews because of battery) ; if i would flip open the lid for the battery container each time when i have used the camera , then the batteries would last longer. if it works, then praise and give thanks to Jesus Christ. He is the ONE who shares His perfect thoughts.
