Repair PS4 CE-35888-2 error code WITH or WITHOUT the original BD-ROM Logic Board - play game discs! 

If anyone is getting this issue and they have not even opened the PS4, boot into safe mode and insert a disc. Click update, and update from internet! This fixed my issue **you must have a disc in the disc drive**

Well Andrew, that saved me a lot of mucking about. Lucky I didn't trash the old drive but I thought the eBay seller had sent me a defective drive. I should have known this would be an issue, Nintendo did it with its Wii but custom firmware sorted that out. Same with PS3 as you know. Was contemplating a new PS5 but nah, too exy, not enough 4k games out their yet and would still be playing the old PS4 games on a machine 4x the price! Thanks for the heads up. Champion. Ended up with the same issue as you bought a ps4 the guy tried to have repaired. Anyway its laying around. If I ever get my hands on donor parts and know someone that can do that electronic work then I will give it a shot but other than that the ps4 will just catch dust. Thanks for explaining. Hi Andrew is this still possible on ps4 firmware 9.0 without original BD board and new hdd ??? As read they removed possibility to re-install system from 5.0 firmware onward without original BD board or I'm wrong ???

I had a board which needed reballing, unfortunately my reballing procedure failed because of my stencil. when i got the direct heat stencil i did the reballing process, but the board already had missing pads (dummies and one which i managed to fix). the result was an endless blod. It was working before the reball if I pressed hard on top of the apu. So i thought the board must be damaged, and decided to swap the 3 chips to another board. a nightmare as you said... 4 -5 hours later, it's finished. powerd it up... endless blod... conclusion: damaged apu? Apu does not react in any way to pressure, and i'm quite sure the reballing process has been made right. On this Apu i managed to blow off by mistake 3 of the top 6 pin things on top of the apu(which i managed to put back on without knowing any polarity or order, but as you said they should work..) either than this I can't tell the problem... so i guess i will throw the towel for this one. The ps4 does not go into recovery mode (it did not go on the old motherboard either), but instead after the second bip (which is 10-12 seconds after initial one) it will power off

andrew i reballed a board and now im getting this code with the original logic board. so not sure if i should try this i actually dont have an extra board to get the chips from yet.

Hey Andrew. watched a few of yoyr tutorials. very informative. heres one for you. ps4 drive daughterboard has power as eject bleeps work. but drive doesnt accept discs (no power) the laser worm also clicks as though initial switch is working... another daughter powers the drive but obviosly the error occurs... can you do a tutorial to show if the married chips can be swapped from dead board to a working one. thus making the working board married... if that makes sense?...

It happened to me recently but I found another fix that I can't guarantee it will fix it Everytime but it is to rebuild the database then update if it is giving the error ce-35888-2 when you go to install a system update but it is a fix for the update error caused by this but not for the disc drive problem

For example if i replace a damaged GPU of PS4 (CXD90026 for example), i must change too the syscon and the ghost chip and re install firmware in order to gets my system work correctly ? or just changing only GPU everything should be fine? Did you ever ask the seller if they still had the original drive? Btw I am also really stubborn.........but I don't think I would try this unless I had the resources. I do love the rush that you get when you successfully complete a task that is somewhat improbable.

the PS4 pros have the bluray controller on the Motherboard so u can replace the whole Drive with out problems .

Ok, how is the logic and the disc org together and error occurring - can't you install the software? What can be damaged? What I noticed that the Renaissance chip is awfully hot, which I did not notice in other logics (consoles) In logic nothing burned, nothing damaged? The drive after inserting the disc is ok, and yet there is a problem? Something on the motherboard?

What if you get this error message while updating your game but you have not did anything to the disc drive or anything?

question , i acquire a new disk drive and i put it in the ps4 and it was working except for the error code that is in the video , i replace the board with my orignal board and now it wont accept discs , i change out the boards again and it still wont accept discs , so so you think the disc motor went bad or do i need to look at something else on the drive

I don't get any errors, but the issue I have, which I simply can not find the answer to anywhere, is after the replacement - the drive i'm working on won't inject/eject discs. If I manually inject it, it reads fine and plays games. So I thought maybe something was faulty, or a cable was messed up. My brother has the same ps4, so I took his apart and swapped drives and daughter boards.. nothing... thinking maybe my board was shot - I put his back together and BAM his has the same issue as mine now. both can manually ingest a game, and it works. I can hear the drive make the attempt to begin to take it - but nothing. Both systems now will not eat or spit out a disc. I'm lost and there is nothing online, at least no answer Just want to try everything short of buying a new system I've torn down and rebuilt it multiple times, and the same issue persists.

Hey Andrew quick question from 2018. New motherboard different optical drive and PCB. I'm not worried about drive. I could update with ribbons disconnected, my question is does the laws still apply for the new updates. Many on the forums on psn having problems

I think I have faulty BD-ROM logic board. Tried another BD-ROM logic board, drive is alive, able to install game, but obviously greeted with the CE-35888-2 error. I swapped the bluray with that of a donor and replaced the daughter board after the cm-35888-2 code. after swapping the daughter board the blue ray comes up with unrecognised disc......any ideas?

Ok this might be a, dumb question but if were to take the chips from a 1115 and transfer them to a 1001a model motherboard and logic board would that solve this error message. Or do I need the APU and etc. from another 1001a motherboard and BDP 10 logic board?

I installed a new disc drive into my ps4 and every thing worked fine untill I switched the drive board and now the disc drive won't spin the discs anymore. It just makes a clicking sound and won't recognize any disc. I noticed when I move the big ribbon cabble a little bit that the disc starts spinning for a moment, but stops right after. I never put a new disk drive in my ps4 or messed around with it yet still got this message. I found that and I'm not joking turning it of and on again fixed it. So if you're in that situation where you haven't done enything to your ps4 then try restarting your ps4 first.
