I live in Hong Kong. Back in the 70's when I was 15 I was getting a summer job in a factory making pocket AM radios. Back then they were only making 1 model and I was told the radios are exported to the middle easy for HK$5 (USD0.6). My job was to fix radio that cannot QC. I managed to work in the same factory again 2 years later. And they were still making the same thing. When I graduated a few years later, most factories in Hong Kong have already moved to China. Today, I just cannot describe my feeling when seeing something that is made in Hong Kong so many years ago and is still used by someone so far away. Good job!

This reminds me of when I was a child and I was getting interested in electronics and taking apart these old radios. It was always a bit off putting when I’d get that string all messed up and couldn’t get it back together. I think these days I’d just take photos and rip into it. Interesting vid. Keep up the good work.

This radio was my teenage beach radio. We would go to Hampton Beach, NH as often as we could from Fitchburg Massachusetts.

I came across your channel looking for review of PAM8403 I’m hoping to use it to drive a cb radio handset for a Truck Simulator Game. Then I started watching your other videos. I absolutely love old radios. I always have. I love watching you trouble shoot repairing them. I learn so much. Thank you for your time and videos.

I ended up buying one on eBay and I got one in very good condition. The volume knob being turned causes lots of crackling so that will need cleaning and the antenna has slight bends in it and binds while extending. Those items are easily fixed. The only problem is that it is in such great condition I don’t want to subject it to the elements and ruin it.

A good fix. I'm wondering if there's some tone or something you can put over audio to eliminate copyright strikes? Just something to obfuscate the sound. Because no one should be penalized for just sweeping a radio dial. Such is the world we live in today.

What is absolutely disgusting is that there is no "copyright strikes" on RU-vid Shorts. Almost every music track is stolen copyrighted material. RU-vid even makes it easy to DIRECTLY copy 15 seconds of audio from any existing RU-vid video!
@1pcfred
@1pcfred 2 года назад
@@johncoops6897 not many people want just 15 seconds of a passage. With capture software like OBS everything is pretty easy to copy anyways. Then with ffmpeg you can rip the audio track out and YT becomes better than Napster.

@@1pcfred - I have no idea why you are telling me that. I am talkong about COPYRIGHT STRIKES.

@@johncoops6897 and I'm saying people get struck for no good reason. Now you know why.

When I moved to America in the middle of June 1972, I saw a lots of attractive AM-FM digital alarm clock radio sold for $20.00. I think it is attractive and reasonable price compared to National Brand that has similar design from Japan that sold for much twice. I realized later than the US company had shipped the manufacture job to Hong Kong as a deterrence for cheap labor country. I never trust the US or European brands that shipped the work to overseas. I had quality issue with this kind of attitude.

That comment pretty much makes no sense at all. I can't really even work out what point you are trying to make.

Soundesign made some attractive looking products in the seventies. I lusted over a stereo turntable/reciever they sold for a decade but from what I've seen/heard of their stuff it is a good thing I missed out, I would have been disapointed.

I used to work in a stereo repair shop in the late 70's. They sounded pretty good, but when you opened one up, it was a gutless wonder. Probably ran near full power at normal listening levels. The finals were what you might find in a portable tape recorder.

I live in Hong Kong, these must be mass produced in a factory with unskillful female workers, they have casual briefing how to finish it (maybe demo), but definite not a good course of soldering. But labor was cheap back in the 70's.

Why not replace all the electrolytic capacitors and the battery holder while you have the radio apart?

No idea if this is the correct forum for this discussion but any advice as to what could be causing a tl071 based preamp to make high pitched very loud noise? I've built one successfully, all attempts to build another has resulted in very heavy and loud high pitched sounds when I connect aux to my phone. Any advice would be appreciated
