This video covers how to repair a stuck lens cover on a Canon G7X or G7X II. A quick and simple repair that will save you from sending your camera to a Canon Repair Centre. This trick will also work for Canon S120 Series cameras. A quick do it yourself to save a few dollars!

Purchased the plastic tool kit a month back... Using the small blue prying tool you recommended immediately resolved the stuck lens cover on my Lumix DC-ZS200. This tool will be added to my camera bag when traveling !! This is a great little tool set ! Many Thanks !!

Wow, this fix took like 5 seconds. I had a bunch of sand in my G7X Mark II and all other problems like a grinding noise when using the ring disappeared after a few days but the lens was stuck open for the last year. I dreaded the repair bill and today finally tried to find a way to repair it myself. Literally 5 seconds, thanks for the video!

This has happened to me two different times. The second time was cuz I dropped it and the camera wouldn't even turn on. I did this both times and both times it fixed it. Great upload man.

I have the same issue with my Canon S120. In place of that plastic thing that were shown in this video, is a thin squared metal plate I raised with a knife blade. And it Worked! Thanks a lot.

I can't thank you enough. I didn't have the tool but had a pair of tweezers the had almost exactly the same bend angle; gently put it under and pried the cover area upward and it now functions perfectly. You saved the day !!!

@@ericaroundtheworld the too is being inserted between the lens cover (the part that moves when the camera turns on) and the aluminum that is just above it (looks square when open). So that small space between those two parts. Hope that helps. 0:56

What a simple fix, thank’s a lot. Worked right away for my Sony RX100 m4 I had stuck opening just 2/3 for over half a year. I was used to had to hold lens cover lightly with my thumb after powering it on and lifting the thumb after the lens was fully extended so that the lens cover spring had enough tension to open fully.

This was helpful! I tried prying gently, but that didn't quite do the trick. We had gone to the beach recently, so I though I'd try blowing as hard as I could into the closed cover. That did the trick! I'm guessing this dislodged some sand stuck in there. I used to play saxophone, so I blew pretty hard ;), a can of compressed air may work too.

same issue for me with a Panasonic LX10, I cleaned and cleaned for over 10 mins. Opening and closing, eventually worked. I say this, b/c the tiniest amount of dust can jam these all apart. I had the G7X too and I just keep mine in case.

My G7X was brand new and I’d used it in Spain for the first time when a horrible local rudely bumped into me from the back (I could not see him as I was ahead of him). There was ample space along the entire plaza but it seemed that he was intent on being unpleasant as I’m Asian. (Experienced racism for the first time in Europe despite being familiar with other European terrain.) That knocked the G7X out of my hands and it swung against a hard object. It has been stuck ever since unless I manually tug at it each time.

I tried and it got better, did it again, and it would open inconsistently, waited a few days and did it again and again slowly with the guitar pick (like I saw in one of the comments) and it is back to opening well now. It took me some time because I did not want to force or break anything. Thank you for posting, I wish you all the best.
