That was actually my first thought! Then I considered epoxy, but at the end of the day I knew I needed strength to hold the two sides together, and my mind went to license plates (I've got a stack of 'em). i agree that JD hoods are pretty much junk , been patching mine for several years with whatever i had on hand. The price of a new hood is insane so i patch and patch and patch
