Sounds to me like Altec has a problem with their design. Charging ports are a common issue with breakage. Too bad they don’t stand behind their product.
I have the life jacket 3 from 2015. Mine is not charging anymore, but it does power on and work. I haven’t checked to see if the port has dirt built up inside, but I did begin breaking it down to check the wires. I see in recent comments pairing suggestions were made. Holding down both volume buttons is how you reset the pairing.
Hey there, thanks for the view on my channel. So, there seems to be a design flaw with these speakers, and that makes the best speaker I've tried...the WORST. The mini usb charging ports fail on these ALL the time! I found HUNDREDS of comments/complaints about this, so the company MUST know about it, and since they don't change it, they are crappy!! I put 2 new, higher capacity batteries in it (I thought it was that too), and it worked for a minute, but nope...so I ordered a replacement mini usb charging port. It's not hard to get the mini board out with the connector on it, but I've never de-soldered anything & had to order flux & a new soldering gun kit as well. This is NOT a job for the average person as you know, so most people would just throw it out. I tried solder wick, but my tip was old & crap. I ordered new ones, but the iron's heating element burnt out in the middle of working on it! So I ordered a new one, since I ordered the tips already...so I'll have 2 irons. Anyway, I'm still waiting on the new soldering iron to get here next week, then I can hopefully finish. I still have to remove the old solder clogging the holes. It's a push through type connector. I think I'll be okay. I refurbish shoes and have a good magnifying glass with a light. I've soldered wires together before, but that's it. Oh, when I got my batteries from China (wasn't in a hurry...have another bt speaker) I just used pieces of paper clips to make the connections to the strip on the batteries (I have Lifejacket 2 so there's 2 batteries). A tiny chip fell off when I was opening the speaker...thank goodness for the magnifying glass, so I can put that back where it goes! If everything goes okay, or not, the video should be up maybe next weekend. I'm supposed to get the new iron in the middle of next week. For me, the replacement piece was like 2 or 3 dollars with shipping. They should just use new ones. At least I got it new on clearance for $49.99 (the 3 was already out) instead of $149.99. My Hydra jolt won't charge or turn on. I Have never dropped it or put it in water as the charging port cover was no where to as tight as my random brand trend tech speaker that floats in the pool with a normal on on top and on the bottom a flat rubber circle that that moves, but is also is a speaker.
I have this exact speaker I paid $100 for and in no time the usb plug broke. I'm a licensed electrician and haven't attempted fixing it. Maybe I will after seeing you take it apart. Hit me up if you need electrical help.
This may seem unconnected ,however so, because of your question......I learned that pushing those buttons reset the mini life jacket. My off / on button stopped working in the on position.so having to recharge it every time I needed it was not cool.🤬🤬🤬 That being said I looked at a question from someone else on Reddit. There I found out about the lol five finger reset press on all 5 buttons and it completely reset!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳 So what I'm saying is this ....had you not existed here on RU-vid......this unit was going into the garbage. Got this more than 4 yrs ago as a prize after spending 250 on tickets for a house lottery. This was a consolation for losing. Now it is very cheap but it was garbage and I saved money regardless. Thank-you.
Hey I'm not sure if you've already been told this cuz I haven't read in the other comments but I just thought I would pass along some info I was hoping that you were going to be able to show me how to change the battery out because I've had three of these now the mini life jackets and they are little beasts they put out some serious boom when they work properly however all three of them have had major issues with the USB port I tried to take and disassemble one last summer and yeah I should have never done that without getting some sort of a manual to give me instructions so that's why I was watching your video however I think you gave up at the end due to that purple light the purple pinkish light that comes on instead of the blue and I just wanted to tell you that that's normal when okay I'll take anything mini life jacket is charged and it's still plugged in it goes from the blue to the purple so I just thought I would share that you might have fixed it and you still don't even know it like I said I haven't read the other comments so maybe someone else already told you that but I just thought I would share that with you and thank you for showing me how to get the battery out the right way LOL have a great night good luck:-)
My nearly decade-old HP 17" beats laptop keyboard crapped out on me. I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard for now to avoid buying a new laptop. Anyway to fix the current keyboard that I have?
@@yenterpriseonebay Thanks for the quick response. Will have the laptop checked out. Your ALTEC Lifejacket tutorial came in handy after my early-model began talking longer to turn on and is now blinking red. This could mean that my eight-year old stalworth may be due to for a battery changeout or I may look to replace it. In any event, I'm going to perform surgery on it today with your video at my side.
I don't think the seal is watertight anymore in the sense that you shouldn't have it floating in water anymore. But, it should still be fine in a humid area like a shower or similar.
Thank you for your video. When you tested for continuity on the ribbon wire... I noticed that perhaps there could be a short between the individual wires. Did you check off camera, or can you, check to see if voltage is leaking from one contact to another? ...ie, holding one probe on one contact, while trying all of the other contacts on the other end.
i know this video is old so maybe no one will see it but i have just gotten an issue with my altec lansing hydroblast speaker, it refuses to turn off and the bluetooth icon no longer glows i can connect it and it beeps in response so i know the sound isnt broken and now it wont play audio. It still can pause skip and connect to bluetooth devices just will NOT turn off or play the audio i have tried resetting it all that does it make it beep like it understands what im trying to do and STILL wont work i need to know if its something i can fix or if it would be easier to simply replace it
That is tough. Easiest solution would be to replace it. There is a lot going on it sounds like. When in doubt I open things up to see what is going on inside.
Mine had a chip in the bottom right of the board that shorted I am guessing and then I had unplugged the battery and plugged it back in, smoke started to appear and I left it plugged in. I think the short melted itself away and it works now lol. Gonna put a little heat sink on it.
I have an infamous xpedition 4, can you do a video on fixing one, Main problem, stopped working after a couple months, won't charge, used power supply only and that quite as well.
I just looked that one up, unfortunately right now there are none for parts or not working on eBay - I would have to wait until one pops up or see if I can come across one where I work. I'll try to keep my eyes peeled though! I also have a The Jacket H2O, 3x Super LifeJackets, a Super LifeJacket Jolt and a VersA I will be working on eventually.
That's a really tough question to answer without having both devices to look at. Does the speaker work fine except for connecting? Did it stop suddenly?
how about the sound not clear..i already changed the speaker but still not good..sounds like dragging not clear.. please help me to fix my altech mini life jacket.
It looks like it was in pairing mode, judging by the flashing LED. I have a Super Lifejacket which I'm planning to look into. It works, but the I believe that the battery might be on its way out, since when I charge it, the red LED never goes out. There is a button combination, (I can't remember it), but when they are both pressed at the same time with the unit on, it tells you the battery charge status. As for the battery itself, it looks like a battery that can be purchased at any Vape Shop, except you would need to tack weld leads onto it.
