Found one of these units at a Goodwill - $15. Brought it home - had the issue you just addressed and fixed and BOOM!!! Best money ever spent! Great video (loved the extra screws at the end) regardless - well done sir!!!!
I just grabbed one of these from a thrift store for $10, I haven't looked at it yet but it seems louder than hell, I'm going to carefully take it apart, clean as much as I can and check the lubrication as you showed here.
Thanks a lot for your instructional video! It really save me money. I just about to get rid of my steamvac, but when I watch your video , I tried to follow all the procedures and I was able to fix it. Once again thank you and God bless you.
My hoover was only 4 yrs old and this fixed it too....Thanks keep the video's coming...Oh I am a female that worked as a service advisor for over 32 yrs in the car dealerships. My dad had me working on cars and lawnmowers and anything that had a motor or engine since I was 8 years old.. Thanks to my dad I work on lots of stuff..Love the XXX screws...But never leave any parts out of drum brakes...lol
I paid 145. For mine from big lots 2 years ago. I use it average 4 times a week brushes stopped working and if i can save myself 199. To 299. For a new machine so be it. Thank you for this video it was very helpful
I bought a used cleaner not realizing the brushes didn't work so I did a search on You Tube for a possible answer and to my surprise I found one. Thanks for showing how to take it apart (another video) and how to fix the brushes in this video, it works now! Don't know if you know how to fix this problem. The hose attachment for doing stars etc the tip white piece inside that I guess disperses the cleaner into a spray has come off, how do you reattach it if there is a way? Thank you for the videos!
After a lot of trouble shooting and a lot of frustration. I cleaned the intake screen (which nobody shows in their videos even Hoover) and low and behold the brushes took off. Thanks
you live saver i have been pulling my hair out with this problem and you showed me straight where to go and it was stuck solid but wd40 in the right place did the trick a big thank you .
Thank you for this - I have no idea how much money you saved me, but clearly more than I should have spent. Opening it and getting the wd40 in there had the brushes spinning again!
@crazymandan59 I don't remember if mine had any grease in it or not when I took it apart. I thought you had meant for the bushings. You would want to use a plastic-safe grease for the gears that you could probably find at your local hobby shop, or if you use synthetic white lithium grease on the plastics you should be okay. The oil I use isn't 10W-30 - that has a detergent in it. Get the SAE-30 oil that is non-detergent (look on the bottle - it will say not recommended for gasoline engines)
Thanks for the awesome info. I fixed mine in about an hour while watching tv. there was extra grease on the gears so i reused that and used some slick50 that i use for my guns on the bearings. Once again thank you for this video.
Thank u so much for this how to video! Everything you showed in your video was the EXACT problem I was having with my Hoover Steamvac LS, again thank u!! =)
just the part that goes through the bushing. Make sure that the shaft isn't binding and that housing is together properly. The motor runs on vacuum, so it has to have an airtight seal.
@crazymandan59 Glad to hear it helped. Any kind of oil should be good, though I've been told not to use the standard "red" 3-in-1 oil as it can degrade the bronze bushings. Normally I just use plain old non-detergent 30 weight motor oil in a dropper bottle. A quart of it costs about 2 bucks at wal-mart, and a drop or two is enough for most bushings.
@ljohn1999 Glad the video helped! I don't have the attachment hose for mine, so I'm not sure how the nozzle would attach. I'm thinking that it may have been glued in if there's no other apparent way of keeping it in there. A drop of super glue should hold it if that's the case
my brushes aren't turning either and the sliding know that changes the agitation speed won't move...it is stuck in the center, so it seems like it is at some speed and not off for no agitation but it may be actually off but the sliding knob isn't working. The little spinning wheel that indicates it is moving is also not spinning around at all. I have cleaned out that little filter by it.
Great video! Would the same application of putting oil in the pump motor apply to a Hoover Steam Vac V2? The brushes are not spinning. I think we got close but didn't take the motor off. Thank for the video.
Hi, I don't have the manual for it, either. I have always used hot tap water in mine. I wouldn't use anything hotter, as there may be a risk of melting the tank. The name "steam vac" is a bit misleading, as it does not have a heater in it, or produce steam whatsoever. I do believe that some of the more recent models do have a heater, but this one does not.
Strange, Ive noticed most guys on youtube working on the older models. It doesn't seem to make sense to even try and fix them. Those motors are so old. Early 90's I believe. But hey, that's cool if people are happy with theirs. You can find refurbished ones at Big Lots for $40 - 60. Anyhow Good video. I think Ill make one for the Dual V steam cleaner and provide some tips on maintenance. Good job on the video.
Well, I can't speak for the others, but I got it for free, and it works! Why spend $40-$60 when free does the job? Maintenance is the problem... I think most people think that all you have to do with vacuums and carpet cleaners is empty the water or bag... And judging by some I've found, some people don't even empty the bag!
Yep and they'll fill the bag as much as it can take before they even think about emptying it. Thus creating a clogged vacuum. "Oh shoot it doesnt work. Throw it out, we'll just get another one but this time a different brand "
@crazymandan59 Not a problem. Good luck getting it working, and if you have any other questions I'll do my best to answer them. One thing about the pump - From what I remember, the pump won't turn unless the attachment hose is connected, so that may or may not be your problem.
Great video brother. There should also be a small pull out filter screen on the bottom of the unit too. I did a video here a while back on the same topic. Sometimes the impellers just need to be cleaned and lubed. What kind of oil did you use? I just used Vaseline on mine.
Worked like a charm. Thank You so much! Oh and BTW... I ended up with 4 screws left over too! lolol But, everything is secured and working. Just finished the dining room & next is the living room. And, we almost threw this out?
lolol, that's for sure. My husband wanted to go rent a carpet steamer. Just like he wanted to buy a new clothes dryer when that broke down... I fix everything in this house thanks to RU-vid. Your video helped me this time.
+general0ne Do you have to use a special oil for the pump gears? What do you use? My F5914 machine died on me while I was cleaning. Stop to do something ... came back tried to turn it on ... nothing. I thought I smelled something burning while cleaning. I figure it's the main motor. Better to pay$65 for a new motor, than $138 for a new machine. With having to clean my carpet every week because of four dogs I will need videos like yours ... it will save me a lot of money on part and labor cost ... thank you for posting it. One other thing ... how long are these motors design to last under weekly use of 2.5 hours? Thanks for reading my post.
well it just happens that i found a steam vac wide path the other week. i haven't had a chance to mess with it yet, but i'll let you know what i come up with. I don't think they have any belts or anything in them though.
oh ok. i'll see if i can make another video in the next couple days. it's fairly straight forward, though. the vacuum motors are only held in with a couple screws, and the oil goes on the turbine shaft. i'll see what i can do though.
I have a hoover steamvac dual v close enough to this one. The water won't dispense. Soap/water mix does dispense from the right side (facing the unit), but water alone doesn't dispense. We took it all apart and the motors and pumps all seem to be in working order and the hoses leading up to the pump don't seem to have a clog. Any suggestions? Thank you, I like your video
I have what I perceive as a newer model. The wand brush spins at a high rate of speed but the floor ones do not; after disassembly and cleaning it appears the fundamental problem is that the drive hole that the brush assembly fits into turns extremely slowly. This seems to be the issue that you address in the video. Before I begin is there anything else I should check? (I ask because I'm quite good at tearing stuff apart and not nearly as effective putting it back together.)
General, I have the Hoover Steam Vac Dual V that has the same problem with brushes turning. I cleaned the little vaccuum motor filter and still no movement. I'm trying to diassemble it to clean and oil the unit. Can you help with getting it apart? Thank in advance. Tom
I have the Hoover SteamVac with the same problem. When you took apart the brush motor, what part of shaft did you oil? I followed your video and it didn't seems to work. Actually I made it a little worse. Any suggestions?
I have a hoover steam vac deluxe model number: F5881-900. It has stopped stucking up water from the carpet. I can pour water on a concrete slab and it will suck the water up, but it no longer works on a carpet. The hand tool does have good suction. The manul says to reset/place fuse as a possible solution. I cannot find the fuse. Can you give me some help? Thanks, RMZ
I have a hoover steamvac ls edition and the machine will not turn on at all and is leaking. It has been in the barn for a number of years but i wanted to know if you could help with any advice.
Is there any way at all you could please tell me the exact size/thickness and length of the 2 nuts and 2 bolts that come with this -as I have lost mine and need to buy more from my local hardware store? Thank you!
does this vac have and O ring between the water and soulution tank and the vac? Never leaked before I keep trying to put tank in but keeps leaking it is aligned. Let me know thank you so much.
the canister latches on the canister that holds dirty water...one of them broke, so i ordered a new latch...but i can't get the old broken latch out...how do i do that...
Hmm. I'm not sure to be honest. The model I have doesn't have an attached hose, and the widepath model I had just had the hose attached at the bottom of the handle. Dismantling the handle wasn't necessary to do anything with the hose. If you really to need to take it apart, look for recessed or covered screws, and it likely snaps together. Just watch out for springs and such for the solution dispenser lever.
Lou! I just reread your comment! My apologies for misreading. I had originally thought you had meant the vacuum hose, not the solution hose. I'll be home tomorrow, and I'll take a quick look at the hoover and see if I can see any obvious way that the handle can come apart.
Glad to hear you got it fixed! I did upload a quick video of how I think the handle comes apart. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uCPt8pLE0e0.html It seems to be fairly simple if you need to do it in the future.
Thank u so much for this how to video! Everything you showed in your video was the EXACT problem I was having with my Hoover Steamvac LS, again thank u!! =)
