A lot of people commenting are missing the point of the video though. It's not intended as a "permanent solution", but a quick hack in the case you run out of dowels / epoxy to fill. He even demonstrates at which point does this "hack" fails, and where it works the best. And, solid wood ain't cheap. Not all people can afford those things and this is a perfectly good quick hack to make things usable in the mean time while the hardware store opens tomorrow or you get your next paycheck.
🤦♂ When was the last time you checked the price of CA glue? In general crazy expensive, dries out too fast as it is hard to keep the nozzle of the bottle 100% clean and with the time when not used the bottles always tend to crack. If you do not use it on a regular basis always buy the smallest amount that you can get as you will have to discard the rest of the bottle as well as your money. Even that is hard to do because the sizes one can obtain are ususally much larger then one needs.
I am a 66 year old woman and still consider myself a handywoman when it comes to fixing things around the house, your video is Brilliant! and helped me decide how to fix a stripped hole. Thank you so much for sharing your skills 😊😊
Cool comparison video on the diffrent types of repair! Enjoyed watching the video, nice quality video. Here is one thing I learned on a RU-vid channel. When you predrill a hole it loses strength bond for screw to material. I know if you wanna keep it from surface split or easier screwing in. I would just make a drill mark then use a drill to power in the screw. Hope this helps.
I googled the glue mentioned in the description, and it's superglue (cyanoacrylate adhesive). Much as expected, but the title is throughing people off.
Baking soda + CA glue makes a good filler, but it's quite brittle. If you want a better bond, use CA + baby powder. Seen that on Adam Savage Tested channel, and tried myself to modelling, and it's rock hard as epoxy.
@@graealex I always use epoxy for such things. However, i use this, in cases you need to fix something instantaneously, or you don't have epoxy on hand. Give it a go!
I've been doing this for at least 30 years with sawdust and everyday wood glue. It is just as resilient and has the advantage that it can also be used when one wants to treat the wood to fill cracks and splitting. Important in such intances is to apply a drop of glue on the top when the hole is almost filled. Then sprinkle sawdust on it till it's overfilled (to allow for shrinkage). Let it harden and it can then be sanded and painted or stained. One sees little to no difference in most cases. With CA glue one will always see the difference.
Adding super glue to any powdered or chopped material (sawdust included) turns it darker. The saw dust technique works, but unless you are working with a dark wood to begin with you are definitely going to see the repair area.
Just remember folks it's an EXOTHERMIC reaction, different glue different temperature. And yes it can leave a nasty burn on any exposed skin. It will burn thru nylon and that will stick also. Avoid direct contact with skin, the fumes do NOT breathe in..... aside from the aforementioned things I've used it for minor automotive repairs, not recommended for exhaust system tho. Brilliant hack....
Let’s remember some people who rent I have no control over what wood is used on the cabinets. With that being said renters probably don’t want to spend a lot of money repairing something so this is a great easy fix those situations.
Yea, wood glue will be stronger than hardwood if it's applied properly. Well worth the extra drying/curing time knowing that you won't have to fix it again next week.
Hola! 👍
Now I know how to attack these problems. Thanks so much! Great job!!! So many Negative Nancys in the comments section. Hey, just don’t thumbs up if you don’t like it NANCY!!!
Dont hurry to use this "solution". It is weak. Instead, use dowels and woodglue, or fill the hole with epoxi and then drill and thread. I tested the baking soda and superglue mixture. It is not a durable one.
Sure, you could do this in a more proper way. But I think this is a quite nice demonstration of what super glue and baking power can accomplish in a pinch. It is applicable in many more situations
Oh, wow! So many ways! I know to use a toothpick or a match as a first aid, nice to know the wire works too! Edit: actually, no, the wooden version works much worse than a wire, as far as I can compare from memory.
