I just bought a used Ashford Traditional Spinning Wheel from the 1960's. I have been wondering just how to connect the brake spring. A couple of different places told me that it needed two springs and I was wondering just how to do this. I want to thank you so much for showing the brake spring connection or I would have been totally lost. You showed it and it is very easy.
A nice woman just gave me her late mother's spinning wheel, same model ❤️ amazing condition too. I'm pulling it apart a bit to get rust off and condition the wood but it looks pretty healthy and has been sitting by their piano for years. So excited to get to use it! Thanks for the video!
Great tutorial… my peddle was tied with a string.did you say yours was tied with leather? My ashford is very dirty. What can I clean it with? This was gifted to me so I’m a newbie!
Yes the bottom of the footman to the pedal is attached with a piece of leather on mine. Wood friendly products (Murphys oil soap, feed and wax) would work to clean it.
Going to pick up the same wheel from someone this week ($50!!). This will be helpful as its been sitting for a long time in their moms garage. It needs a leather treadle connector though. What is the oil & the device you used to oil in the beginning?
That’s a spinning wheel oiling container, and the oil that came in it (google says 30 weight motor oil or gun oil). Both came with my wheel when I bought it!
