Was told that my computer was not communicating with the IAC and that both should be replaced. Easy job for the most part.

How did you diagnose this? I’m having problems with mine running and I suspect it’s an electrical component but I don’t just want to throw parts at it anymore

I have a 93 Ranger in a 90 F150 both stick shifts. I've owned tons of Ford trucks and if they're more than 20 years old pull the ECM out take it down to electronic shop and have new capacitors put into it for about $75. Lemonades a lot of problems and they're only good for 15 years anyway

Yeah I agree with you take it to a trustworthy Mechanic which are very hard to find these days I bought mine to a shade tree mechanic to have the heads done he did a compression test put the plugs and wires back in, The motor Will not start it just is a dead crank ,He could not figure out why ,So I had to have it towed 1-1/2 back to my house ,Now its getting gas its getting spark The only thing I could think of is that it jumped time or the Distributor gear sheared or he blew the computer by not unhooking the coil when doing the compression test.....Any suggestions ...Great video well done

At this point. Please use the tag number to replace it. They come from Auto Zone, etc. You won't need to reflash it.

By any chance did it cut off at 3,000 rpm when accelerating? Because my ranger starts to jerk when reaching 3,000 rpm on all gears. Thank you

Can I take my computer somewhere and have it tested? Before I buy a new one or can I get one from the junkyard?

My Ford Ranger 1993 V6 3.0 4x4 XLT had tranmission problems, it got repaired, changed solenoids, but now the transmission can't find 2nd gear. The mechanic mentioned it is an electrical problem, is this correct? He put the scanner and got code 15 C. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

what do you think caused it o go bad? i have a mechanic that bailed on me , stole my money and left the truck horribly disabled, all he was doing was head gasket, he put the battery charger on it one day after the heads were on and put it on START and left the property, when I got back home it had been in the Start position for almost 4 hours straight and the truck was smoking, a ton of stuff was hot and the battery ( i don't know how it didn't explode ) was spewing from every cap and boiling, it was actually rumbling, moving. anyway. the trucks never started since. i am thinking, among other things, he fried that computer. I am making a list now for court. everything worked before. now even with a brand new distributor, wires and plugs, no spark. i saw him start the day before but the fuel injectors all leaked , looked like a Vegas water fountain till he shit it down. that was the last i saw it run.

I am being told that the computer for the 94 Splash was different then the XLT even if they are both using the 4.0 V6. Just trying to find out if my son has a shady mechanic fixing his truck.

Hank, were did you get the computer? I have a 4 cylinder 93 and they are saying no computer exists for it and its a $900 rebuild of the old one

When my Computer ( 1994 Ranger 4.0) died, the injector circuit grounded and opened all the injectors. So trying to pull OBD1 codes, filled the truck's cylinders and crankcase with gasoline. Yikes-- so strange.

I think I may have the same issue......threw out a 112 code, replaced it and threw out a 11, 111 and 114.......scan tool don't work or no communication, and with the jumps I would get the codes 1 out 10 attempts.

Francisco Macias : Locate and repair the ECM's ground locations. With bad grounds, this is why you're not getting a connection or the self-diagnostic isn't running.

Francisco Macias that 111 code is not a trouble code. It is a completion code. The 11 is same thing. That 114 is air charge temperature sensor

the gmc bick fires under accceleration unless you manually shift and hold the gears longer its strange still kickin with 240 kmilles

Could a bad computer make a ranger not get spark? I'm getting power to the coil (brand new one). When I take one of the spark plug wire off while cranking it and no spark is coming from it.

Have the resistance of the coils tested. Just because you get power in means nothing if you don't get power out. FYI: On all 2.3s, the exhaust heat loves to cause corrosion internally with the coils. So knowing how to resistance test your coils can save you time and money.

Second thing: Check your crank (CKP) sensor. If that is not sending its pulse -- its signal -- the computer can"t tell the coils to fire because it never gets the rotational signal from the crank sensor.

Som Heart : Simple advice: Follow each wire as it leaves the negative battery cable. There should be at least these grounds: One at starter, at a mounting bolt. One ground from engine to body. One ground from engine to frame. One ground from frame to body.

Hello Folks. I have a 94 Ranger 4.0 with the same ground problem. Bought the ECU from Autozone put it in now it only cranks, but will not fire up. Tried to put the old one back in will only crack over. It was running quite bad before I took out the old E C U, but it was running. Looking for some help please.

sounds like it could be a wiring issue or some other gremlin. Check all your grounds a bad ground can mimic a bad icu.... other than that its hard to say

Thanks for responding. I got it running, with the new computer just by spraying some carb cleaner in the throttle body and started right up / weird. Check engine light on now giving low voltage codes, on Mass air flow sensor, Idle air control & there was one more low voltage code can't remember it. Could this be the new computer or a ground? Thank You for helping.

Lawrence Reyno : Check each sensor for the specs it has to have, and check them to eliminate them as a source for the codes. After verifying the sensors are good, check and clean all ground straps and ground strap locations. Lastly, if needed, replace your battery cables, as these can corrode to the point that they won't allow ground signals to return to the battery.

I have a 93 ford ranger 2.3 my camshaft sensor got hot an the wires came out the back an touched so the truck quite I bought a new one an put it on now the truck rolls over an it start up for a second an quits

austin mcquaid cwb : On your truck, there is NO cam sensor. The only sensor you should have is a crank sensor, as there is no sensor anywhere near the cam gear for the timing belt.

My 1994 Ranger's ECM finally died. How do I get the main connector unplugged from the ECM? I don't want to yank on it too much as there are quite a few wires there and I don't want to break them. That main connector is on there pretty good.

Unfortunatley you really dont have a choice... youll have to get the connector off be as careful as possible...

I have a 94 ranger with a 2.3 and has 8 plugs 4 on each coil which has only 2 on each firing and suggestions

Joe Carlisle : First, two plugs per head means one plug per coil -- hence two plugs per cylinder, because each coil fires each coil once -- once for power stroke, once for exhaust. More than likely, the cause is one of two things: Bad signal wires , or too high resistance. The other component could be a malfunctioning ICM, which controls what cylinder gets spark, and when it gets that spark. The back of the ICM (on intake manifold; has two six-wire plugs connected to it) can also be corroded, leading to lack of signal to the coils. The crank sensor can be ruled out because you're getting spark at 2 cylinders. No crank sensor signal would show as getting no spark at all at the coils.

My mechanic told me. It wasn't running right nor processing signals from the tps and idle air control.

hanksranger I have a 94 ranger with a 4.0 in it and mine cranks but won't start and whenever the key is on the fuel pump stays on and won't cut off I get fuel to the rail and it has good pressure. do you have any idea what that could be?

Could be the coil pack either worn out or no power getting to it. See if you have spark

hanksranger I checked them and changed the plugs I changed the throttle body censor and the throttle body itself. I also replaced the crank censor and air flow censor
