THE STAND ALONE EASY WAY. The difficulty you may encounter comes in another video. Fourby4diesel This lasted 400,000klms 12 years so I’ll go same again thanks. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Lc120 How to change the alternator
Thanks for that, really made the job easy. One other thing that made it easier is to take the bracket holding the brake pipe to the chassis off so there's room to get the plug out from the back.
Arrr literally had to do this yesterday, this would have been handy. Good for confirmation that it was done right though 👍. Thanks always for the info transfer.
Thanks, great video. Replacing 120 series petrol alternator after 360k kms. No way I'd get a Toyota dealer to do it - a service manager tried to convince me at 200k kms that the engine was completely wrecked & not even safe to leave the workshop!!! Well that was 160k kms ago & all it's had since then is oil changes & oil filters - still on its original spark plugs with same fuel economy as when new. No more dealer service departments for me!
It's the one thing I didn't know prior buying my 120, 08 1kdf, being actually not classed a true 4x4, because of the alternator, well so I was told where I bought new alternator, if you take them for a swim, your going to do the alternator, they can last for some time after a swim, like mine, around 2 month's, what I drove through was just above wheel bearing height, it was all it took, why it was placed so low on motor, just doesn't make sense. I wish I had of seen the side access when I did mine, next one will be easy though, cheers mate.
Hey i need some advice, I want to get a high output alternator for my 2011 hilux 1kd-ftv, what brand to you recommend and can you point me to site for buying? I would require international shipping as I am not from Australia
Hey mate! Sick of swapping out alternator every 3 or so 4wds. Do you know of anyone who makes a high mount kit? Swap locations with ac pump? Thinking of buying sealed water cooled unit but seeing if anyone has engineered a fix to the 1kd mud destroyed alternators
Oh man. I was following your video step by step and you contradicted yourself at the 2min mark. You said if you turn the tensioner pulley clockwise it will loosen the bolt and we don't want to do that. I thought it must be reverse thread for some reason. Maybe because of belt direction or something. So I paused and did anti clockwise. It loosened the bolt. Then when I hit play you said we are going to turn it clockwise! Not a big deal I hope. Surely I can just turn it clockwise to tighten it again? Still agood video though thanks. Hey at 3:25 that bolt has a pulley blocking mine so it can't come out without removing that little pulley. Is that right?
I had the exact same problem and Toyota said it can not be fixed it must be replaced. I took it to a local guy and he just replacad the main bearing for R100. ( About the value as a bag of potatoes ) It was 200 000 km back.
