Hey, you have 2 cranks in the video. I wanted to know how you change the big chainring on the first type of crack you showed (the one where there are no bolts visible on the outside). After you changed for another type of crack...
Can i change the 2nd crank plate with higher number of tooth? i have 32t shimano deore, i wanted to change it to 34t or 36t brandless... is it possible?
Here is a silly question. How do I know if I have a 'Hollowtech crankset'? I ordered replacement chain rings from my LBS and am surfing to find the appropriate how-to video for my upcoming bike maintenance. I have a 2012 Superfly AL Elite that came with this crank: Custom Shimano M772, 42/32/24. And the bottom bracket is a Shimano BB 71 Pressfit MTB.
PG you meanhollowtech bottom bracket II by Shimano. This component is the pipe with bearings in the pedals axle. It does not matter for replacing chainrings. What you need to ensure is that new chainrings match your current crankset. Not necessarily the same reference, this is critical because there may be tiny millimetrical differences and the ring will not fit.
I am surprised that you didn't simply undo the ring bolts and swap the ring without taking it out of the BB. However, what is interesting though is that there's mounts for a third ring as standard
paul treneary This only works with the outer ring, the middle will not pass over the crank arm, likewise for the inner ring but more so. Not that I've just tried before finding I need to remove the crank completely, hence coming here!
probably way to late but i looked into it as i need this tool also and found it its called a Shimano Chainring Peg Spanner sorry if its useless to you now.
