You're my hero! Dealership told me 5 years ago they'd have to remove entire dash and it would cost 100's plus take 1/2 day. I've been living with it since that was excessive. Today I bought 2 bulbs at 4.00 each and spent less than 5 minutes popping them in. Serious good Karma coming your way! Thanks!!!
Thank you soooo much!!! This video was simple to follow and amazing. Didn’t need to even ask my husband to do it for me!! I was able to order the parts from Amazon and even that was simple. Appreciate it!!
Thanks for the demonstration it did help a lot. I called dealership and they were asking 7$ a piece. I stopped by Napa auto parts and got 3$ a piece and the problem solved. Again, thanks
Thank You for this! I am an Electronic Tech and ever since the internet I now fix everything with out Manuals. These videos make repairs so simple for me.
Purchased the light bulbs months ago from Toyota dealership. Was told labor was going to cost $75-125. Watched this video today. Went home installed the bulbs in less than 20 minutes myself. THANK YOU!!!
You're my hero lol! Thank you for making this video. Super easy to do, took me 5 minutes after watching this video. Stupid little light has been out for two years, $7 bucks from Toyota a quick video and voila! Let there be light! Thanks again!
It's such a small thing, but like you, I was really annoyed with not having the light working. The dealership will charge you big bucks because of the labor. Glad you got it done yourself for so cheap!
Thats so great to hear! I have actually gone back and watched my own videos a few times as a project refresher...hahaha. Glad the video was able to help again :)
Thanks so much! Just completed this repair on my 2009 4Runner (the two little bulbs, not the dial bulbs)- went exactly as shown without a single hitch. Pulling the panel off was a little scary, it's definitely tightly mounted, but off it came (and on it went back.) Having the light(s) back is great on its own, but saving the money with the DIY is AWESOME feeling! Sooo satisfying! Thank you again!!
So glad I could help. yeah, taking off the panel was a little nerve racking for me as well. It makes a sound like your destroying the thing. Enjoy being able to see your LCD panel again :)
Thank you for the demo. I replaced mine easily following the steps. I ordered the bulbs from Amazon $7 each. I never thought it could be done without going to the dealer.
Thanks for this video. I had been driving around for months with a dark control panel, too lazy/cheap to get it fixed, and no idea how complicated it would be. With this video I got it done for $14 (two bulbs from Toyota dealer), took less than 30 minutes (plus 1 hour round trip to Toyota dealer for the bulbs).
Just replaced all of these lights in my wife's '05 4Runner (except the pesky Reset/Mode one, it's different). Your tutorial really helped make it easy. Thank you for posting, good sir.
Can’t believe I did not look this up before! Been driving around for months at night with a dark screen. Getting this as soon as I can get the bulbs from the dealership!! Thanks for the video!!!
thank you !! took maybe 10- min start to finish. including putting tools away..i spent more time at dealer getting bulb..lol That was the worst part...after getting screw out i slight pulled on unit got the feel. then one hard pull came out nice..dont let dealer frighten you very easy job. thanks again eric
Tried two local mechanics we use, both did not want to do. Have found more problems than solutions with dealerships in past. Pulled this out as recommended, replaced both bulbs. Worked just like video. 2009 Urban Runner
I only wish I would have done this sooner. Great tutorial! I just popped my new LEDs in and all I needed was a phillips for the retention screw and a flat for the LEDs. 5 mins and done 👍🏼
Thanks so much for taking the time to make and post this video. I'll be changing my bulbs soon. I bought the bulbs and then (can you believe it?) misplaced them somewhere. They are pricey, but it's a pain having a dark panel so I'll buy them again and then when I find the others, I'll have a spare set :)
OMG, Thank you, thank you, thank you . . . . . . . did I say thank you ! My lights have been out for 3 years and I just refused to take it to the thieving dealership. Then I found your video.
So glad we were able to help. Where did you find the lightbulbs? Any chance you got new ones on Amazon? We are trying to find some good new legs to share with folks who are trying to make this fixed. Thanks again for watching.
Great video. Just purchased an 05 and have a bulb out on the display and one on the controller. Ordered the whole set to change them all. Thank you for the video. Again, Many Thanks!
Such a great teacher and awesome video. Really easy to understand you too. Made all displays of work easy to see and evaluate the entire process. Wonderful job again. Thank you for your time too. God bless
I actually had a service rep at a Toyota dealer tell me that they would have to take the entire dashboard off to replace the bulb behind the fan speed controller (2004 4Runner). I've gone for years without that bulb working; I'm embarrassed that I didn't research this more. Now I can buy a bulb and replace it in 10 minutes. Gotta love those dealership service people... Thank you!
You are very welcome. So glad we were able to save you some money. Our local dealership quoted us $400 to do this when we initially looked into it years ago. Grateful for the RU-vid community. Thanks so much for watching.
Thank you for your clear instructions and demonstration. The right side of the LCD screen went out on my 2007 4Runner. I will replace all the bulbs whilst the panel is off.
I've found that getting the bulb from the dealer is usually cheaper than online ($4) plus no waiting. 90010-09015 is the part number for the A/C controls, 90010-09017 for the lcd
Super informative video. Few notes: Getting the wiring harness to dislodge was impossible for me. I ended up having to replace the bulbs with it still attached. The two bulbs behind the info bar are really tough to get locked in.
Perfect video. I would also add: Do not use an undersized screwdriver, the bulbs take a little oomph to get in and my first attempt half-stripped the plastic . Also, video shows well the amount of force to get the display unit out. It also took a bit more oomph than I figured and would not have tried as hard if I hadn't seen the vid.
I'm old and a cheapskate. My poor wife has had to drive with me for thousands of miles because I refused to pay Toyota dealer $100 to replace a $10 bulb. So this video and one just seen before by another good hearted citizen deserves commendations and gratitude. It reminds me of the enduring spirit of Americans during EU WWII where most farm kids then fighting could fix a tank or Jeep or weld. The hierarchical order of the professional Nazi forces actually contributed to them losing a terrible war--they could not fix much. As we look at technology and its debilitating complexity preventing self repair, this video counters giving over to helplessness. Read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Repair. Thanks
Thanks for this video. I was able to replace some of the bulbs. The only thing is I didn't know there were various size bulbs for the various spots. Turns out the bulbs up top are a different model. But thank you for video. 🙏🏾
Thank you for this helpful video! Do the little pictures on the knobs also light up? I just get the little arrows. The lcd screen has been out on my car for years and just now fixed it thanks to your video.
Yeah, we have heard similar stories. It's really disheartening that mechanics are still taking advantage of people who don't have the knowledge they do. You literally can fix this problem for less than $10. So glad we could help. Thanks for watching.
Your a life saver, now I can get right to replacing those bulbs. Thanks for the tip , didn't know how hard or easy it would be. Thanks again ,great tips.
Thanks for the video, it really helped me out a lot and saved me lots of money. It was definitely an easy fix. My temperature control area was broken for years and never fixed it because I figured it would cost too much. But thanks again.
Hey, thanks so much for this video. You were clear with your teaching me how to change the bulbs in my dash. Do you have more? Any way to stop the low tire pressure blinking light? Thanks again. Ron
Our local mechanic would not touch this. After looking at your video, I understood how to remove and replace the bulbs. The video was concise and made me a hero here with my wife. Thanks for covering everything, beginning to end. It was exactly what I needed to know. I pulled out the bulb. The next stop is the dealer. Good Job...... Hell, Great Job!!!
Yeah, it's a pretty straight forward fix. Can just be a hassle to get the new bulbs if you don't live near a dealership. Glad we could help make the process easier for you. Thanks for watching.
Heya. I have a 2006 Toyota 4runner with 275k miles on the chassis and frame, and 171k on the engine, transmission, and drivetrain (2007 parts). My engine has the check engine light, VSC Off, VSC TRAC, and traction control light lit up like a Christmas tree on my dash. Also, at very low speeds and at low throttle, this sound from exhaust (I don't know if my cats are shot) is like a high-pitched rattling sound, NOT like a rock bouncing around on youtube videos you'd look up online about shot cats. My O2 sensors are all new and have been replaced WITH spacers on them. I took my car to the local automotive shop, they said to fix this they would need to mess with the exhaust, put new O2 sensors on and take the spacers off, then diagnose from there to see what's wrong. It's going to be expensive from them... I also am wanting to do this myself... I have a mechanic friend that told me that my cats need to be replaced but I'm not so sure it's the problem just yet... Any suggestions?
Thank God I found this. I helped someone jump start their car and later, when it was dark, I realized that the right side of my multi function display backlight was out. So there are 2 bulbs for that unit?
great tutorial i found extremely useful i bought used 04sr5v6 190k at time i wanted it 6500.00 ended up at 9,900 warranty through asc but hopefully it gets used think it cost me 1200. but yeah used car dont know history running into minor problems which are costly but my lights went out to so found it useful
Great video, helped a lot! Question: does the rear window button to the left of the reset/mode buttons on the display - is there a light behind it? I just bought an 08 and noticed the button is dark at night. Thanks!
Hey thanks I spent only $7 for 2 bulbs from Toyota dealership.Awesome!!! I have a 2003 V6 4 runner and I want to make my turn signals into DRL; is this doable? Thanks
Muchas gracias por subir ese video, lo hice con mi toyota 4runner 2008 que tenía dañadas las luces del panel del aire acondicionado y segui las instrucciones del video y fue muy fácil repararlas. Solo que compre las luces de reemplazo por amazon.
Dude, you should have somebody holding the camera and a flashlight for you in the beginning and you talk about LEDs are you sure they’re LEDs that are originally installed in there or is it just a regular incandescent miniature lightbulb and you talk about fuses please get your terminology correct. So we don’t have to figure it out once we actually get in there. Other than that, your video is really helpful. I have a 2006 Toyota forerunner and I hope it all comes apart the same way as in your video.
Again many thanks very helpful, but got a question. That one little damn screw holding the thing in, I can't get it out. I can turn it but can't extract it. Appears to have been damaged during manufacture. Know any tricks for solving this problem ??? Thanks again for your help.
Scott, thanks so much for your video. Very helpful! I do have a question about the links you have posted. I ordered the bulb that you linked on Amazon and it was the wrong bulb. Can you take a look and see if the link may have changed.
Thanks! save me $45.00 It was pretty easy, it took me no more tha 5 min to change a burned light bulb. BTW bought the light bulb at the dealer for about $10.00
Excellent video. Thanks! My fan control knob light has been out for months. Gonna fix it this weekend. Thanks again. Also, I've bee searching unsuccessfully for a video on replacing the headlight cluster/assembly on the 06-09 4th gen. I've found vids on replacing pre 06 assemblies but those are different in shape. Does anyone know if the attach points and hardware and process is the same for the 06-09 model assemblies?
Good video but I had one problem I can't fix: it unprogrammed the dial settings. The dial on the left doesn't work at all so I can't turn the fan up or down. Please help! If I raise temp the fan raises, but if I go down on temp, fan does to, so I barely have AC.
Is the display supposed to stay on after the car is off? I’m trying to figure out if it’s draining power because when the car is off the orange light stays on and it displays the time.
Great video for an easy fix. Just replaced the LCD backlight bulb in my 2004 4Runner for $8 from the dealer. Part# 90010-09017. Shown as bulb "C" on the dealer's diagram.
Does anyone know if these bulbs are available in LED's yet? If so, please provide a link. LED's would look awesome behind this module. Otherwise, great video! I replaced mine in about 5 minutes. Thanks again!
**CAUTION**Another video stated and I believe it to be true... DO NOT TURN ON THE IGNITION WHILE THE PANEL IS UNPLUGGED IN THE BACK. This will cause the Airbag light to remain on and the dealership will have to reset it for over $100.00
I pulled out the two top center light bulbs and they appear to be good (not burnt out or disconnected inside). Is there a separate fuse for these bulbs?
Are the HVAC controls supposed to all be lit up when the headlights are on? My wife's 04 only has the lights turned on for the actual setting it's set to. At night it's really hard to see to select the setting you want.
My 05 4Runner just started to have issues with this temp control/clock but it’s more that it only keeps time while It’s running driving, my fob/ antitheft stopped working too, checked batteries truck and fob, not that, any help would be appreciated, thanks for the videos.
Not sure if its related but my two front AC vents stopped working and i only get air from side vents and one from the vent in front window, do you know what can cause this and what might be the fix? Its a 2004 4Runner SR5 - thanks
