I love when RCR calls me out with the stereotypes. I love my 89 Toyota and will never get rid of it until the dreaded plague of frame rust does it in. Every used one you see is gonna have Toyota Tax™ in which it has 300k kilometers and a listing price of $8000. I had a solid chuckle at "4runner people keep politics off the gun range" because that's me right there. Hey Mr.Regular, if you want to come to the Central Kootenays in Canada I'll let you review my Toyota pickup that has 1.4 million kilometers on it and is so old it hadn't even been given the designation "Tacoma" yet.

Got the luckiest 2007 right now as my first car. It was lucky because it was only 60,000 miles. No rust, thank god. Its beautiful.

The 3rd gen 4Runner is my favorite. Not too big or bulky like the 4th gens. Sure it’s a little low on power but a Magnuson supercharger kit could really give it that mid range boost and passing power.

Back in 2010 my step mom got our 08 V8 in the divorce. Gas was over $4 a gallon at the time and my dad didn't want it. I miss that car more than anything from my childhood.

The frames in the Tacoma and 4runner are actually completely different. The Tacoma uses a compound boxed and C-channel frame made in the US by Dana and was the subject of a class action lawsuit and recall in the 1st and 2nd gens due to rust. The 4runner frame is fully boxed and based on the Land Cruiser Prado platform which also is used by the FJ Cruiser and Lexus GX. Part of the reason I decided on a 6mt FJ over a Tacoma.

Best way to start a morning!

Go to any Costco on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning and it’ll look like an overlanding or 4Runner club meetup. I’m so glad those big tires, traction boards, and rooftop tents help you camp out for DEALS

Little thing to mention after just getting one, avoid the rear air suspension when looking for one. In the case you do, just put the coil spring kit on, saves alot of maintenance hassle.

Next do a Land Cruiser. It’s the only thing even 4Runner drivers fear.

Found an 08 4Runner SR5 v8 4WD with 160k miles, for just under $10k. Although it’s almost 100 miles away, I think I’ll be happy getting it!!

The 4Runner and Tacoma actually do not share a frame. Tacoma used a US sourced [Dana Corp] C-Channel frame, while the 4Runner is on the Landcruiser Prado 120 series Boxed frame [same as FJ Cruiser / Lexus GX]. Also Tacoma's had a frame recall for 1996-2010, 4Runner did not although they do also rust just not as bad.

i daily a 2016 4Runner SR5, it may not be a 4x4 but at least i have that trusty 3 row seating and box flares, it also has Cooper Discoverer A/T tires so it doesn’t get stuck on something as small as a puddle

I hear you about the rust. Just brought my 06 V8 forerunner came out of Reno California. Frame is still shiny. Can’t wait to start building. Now I got a wicked dilemma that I may have to sell my 1997 Ford power stroke 4 x 4, that I bought new.

Nice vid! Couple things though....the 2UZ is a V8. Was also available in 4Runners of that gen though. Also, the 4Runner is actually on the Prado chassis. It's very similar to the Taco chassis, but lacks leaf springs, along with a few other differences.

Maybe one day I can own a real car and buy a toyota.

I have a 2004 4th gen 4runner v6 sr5 4x4. She only has 117k miles. A great Japanese vehicle on and off road. Everything that I’ve been replacing is due to age not wear and tear, that’s remarkable.

Always thought this to be a great camera car for rcr. Back window rolls down too so u can get clear shots with no window interference. Just look out for rust that should be the biggest concern when shopping for one
